i loved this movie, it's inspiring for adults and children on how to beat the odds when everything is pitted against you.. speaks to the heart and soul of a person.. very good for the family to see on family night ;)
Gosh. Ellis Park looks stunningly different nowadays. I guess after the huge tornado a few years back, they made massive changes.... Changes I didn't notice until now. OH well.
This film shot on location at Ellis Park in Henderson Kentucky in 1995. Leelee was thirteen, an Robert Urich 49 years, it was a year before he found out I had synovial cell sarcoma.
My sister raced at this track in the 90's and was hired by ABC to ride in this movie. She made some good money for two weeks of work.
As for the location of Ellis Park, if you MapQuest Henderson, KY, you'll find that the state line there is NOT the current north bank of the Ohio River. Rivers change their courses, and the state line was established in 1792. Check Wikipedia for further reference. The Ellis Park website gives the address in Henderson. Just sayin'.
How do you figure that Ellis park is in Henderson Kentucky when it is on the Indiana side of the Ohio river in south Evansville? I passed that track on my way to kentucky every week of my life. Those bridges are the Bi-state Veitnam Gold Star Memorial Bridge.
When I was a kid there was a Red Bird gas station accross the HWY 41 from the track that we filled up our 65 SS Impala with Ethyl gasoline. Right after that station was a bowling alley, then the bridge to KY.
@stearman because if you look at your state signs when you pass stateline fireworks on highway 41 that will tell you where the state line is it a big blue sign right before the weight station that says welcome to ky the bluegrass state just like when you are coming from ky you will see a sign just past waterworks rd and the horse track that says the state of indiana welcomes you trust me i am from ky but not all ky ppl are stupid
