@murfra Oh thank you! I thought that Merlin rolled so much because of the feel around his body, but he still does it, in the dirt and in the sun. A feel good sort of movement.
Oh my! Merlin, how did you manage to climb that tree with a leash? If your human keeps that up, you may start barking like a doggie! Two paws up and HAPPY NEW YEAR! from your friend Harley Dog :-)
@sxasher2 Thanks for watching. The only thing holding Merlin back is that leash. One needs to be on their toes so he does get somewhere he can't be removed from.
We would let him be an outdoor cat during the day but he has FIV. Same with inside. I don't think he would bite my indoor cats, but he is very muscular and was semi feral once, we think, i have older cats...so he is a harness walked cat for now.
You cannot watch this and not smile. Well done. Big grin on my face. Thanks for sending it to me - and Jay says thank you and he hopes Merlin learns to love the leash as much as he does. Jay even runs up trees (at least as far as the leash will let him!)
Merlin Is very sweet and he enjoys his walks. When he starts walking he has a power surge, causing the walker to move quick so as to not be pulled off their feet. He is a strong boy. Thanks for watching Merlin. Hope you will enjoy some of my other videos. I subbed to you, your commitment to animal welfare is right on. I wish we could banish all cruel people.
Merlin is so gorgeous! So cute to see him tangled in the leash and enjoy exploring so much. I wish my cats would go outside with a leash but they seem too afraid of the outdoors to get out past the door.
Merlin seems split between two inner personalities fighting for dominance: plump snack-eating couch potato in front of the tv and free-spirited adventurous outdoor feline. We will have to see which personality wins the inner battle but it will be educational to observe his journey to Self-Realization.
Thank you for sharing Merlin - he's a delight to observe and such a beautiful boy.
@celinne700 One week later I realize how right on you were about Merlin. Don't tell anyone yet, but i fear couch potatoe might be winning. His new nickname is Hoss. LOL
@venniey Lordie no! Has he been watching 'Jersey Shore' and 'The Young and Restless' again while munching on cheese sticks and drinking beer? Does he show more interest in the tv remote controller than he does in birds? Has he lost all interest in girl cat hotties and drools on CNN's Anderson Cooper instead? If you've answered yes, then Hoss might be taking over from Merlin.
@celinne700 LOL Well, he was neutered first thing as soon as I got my hands on him, so any male cat behavior is extinguishing. We control the remote....so far, so he has to hear or see what we put on.
He is really interested in bird action and wants to climb trees in the worse way. We are getting him a TALL cat tree for him to climb in the garage.
He is very food driven. He loves to play with toys and handheld wands etc, so we do that a lot with him. I am considering a Hoss/Merlin video.
@venniey That sounds like a great idea. I look forward to seeing the two sides of Merlin and observing his reactions, attitudes and leanings. And it's a relief to know he doesn't drool on Anderson Cooper but make sure he isn't fixated on Fox's Bill O'Reilly. I know that Canada's PM Harper loves cats so maybe he might be a good one for Merlin to follow on tv.
@ankex Thanks a lot Ankex for the congratulations. We used food as a motivator at first. Also, Merlin is social enough that he will often follow where I walk to ahead of him. After he started enjoying the smells and animal/bird world that was allhe needed.
He only rolls in the dirtdown because it feels good. LOL
@gigi101060 Try it!! If your cat loves food use that at first, toget the cat to walk a step or two forward. Be sure the Harness is pretty snug before taking it out. And have a door open so if the cat getsspooked and away from you, it has the option of running inside.
@venniey omg!! I had a cat and went out with the leash.... we had such problems to get her back into the flat, next day we went again, because she was meowing the whole night.... after the second time we gave up, because she scratched and bited and did not want to go home. 4 weeks she meowed at the closed door !!! It was touching my heart but I could not let her go, I live in a busy town!! so - no try again !!
@gigi101060 Right, I wouldn't try again either. I wondered if Merlin would become obsessed with going out and make a raucous day and night. Thankfully is is very low key....usually. He gets a lot of attention inside.
Remember,he was out there on his own and wandered in. He was hungry and worried out there. He had a bite and parasites and also mites on his ears. He is very alert to everything and growls at deer, turkeys and stuff I can't see.
Dude ! Your rolling around start had me chuckling but you did it !!!!!! Thinking about also buying a harness & leash for my kitties.Persistance pays off.
@KIDNAPPEDKITTIES2 Yes New Jersey, it sure did pay off. The tangle he got himself into was priceless.
Be sure the harnes is snug before going outside. Cats can turn around and try to pull themselves out of it backwards. Also let hem go out and door that is left open so they could run to it if they broke loose. I am so glad Merlingot you to laugh!!
@pianoman8539 Thanks so much! I appreciate than. Look at my subject matter though. LOL
Cats DO eat leaves, although I think oak leaves are not common fare.
Cats do enjoy young grass and some butlers and staff of cats provide wheat grass to their indoor cats. Indeed, cats eat indoor plants and sometimes can be poisoned by them.
I know oak has tanin in the acorns. I will research to see if Merlin shouln't munch on them. He hasn't thrown up yet!
Merlin is "THE DUDE" and rules over his country kingdom with real ownership!!
From a barrel rolling start to a cocky wailer and then climber,he's amazing! This is such a beautiful thing to ad to his life! Life is good!!! (sinking my claws into the bark)
@venniey I LOVE this cat!!! I wish I had the environment to train my cats on a leash! It's so good for a cat to enjoy the outdoors. It's good for them all around and the leash always keeps them safely with you! I love watching the Dude! Seriously!
What a handsome boy! My orange kitty drops and rolls like that too!
