I feel sorry for the chicken because i raise some as pets in my backyard, but at the same time, the poor snake has to eat, too. Maybe you could possibly use something else to feed the snake? If you have a mouse problem, you could trap the mice and feed it to the snake. That way, the chick lives to see adulthood, (which the mouse already has,) and the snake doesn't eat something that's half feathers anyways.
