Minekura hasn't completed Gaiden yet but from the scans I've read, Nataku was commanded from his father, Li-Touten to kill Goku but Nataku refused, stabbing himself and ending up in some sort of coma. Goku broke his diadem and went crazy, slaughtering hundreds of people. Tenpou, Kenren and Konzen tried to escape to down below and so far, only Konzen and Goku are left.

Oh gosh, that's a tough one because they all seem to mesh into a sort of blurr. From what I remember, I think its around 50+ something in the first series (before Reload). Though I'm sorry I can't remember exactly ^^; I tend to watch Saiyuki in one huge gap, so the episodes become a blurr. lol. ^^;;;
