Hey PGS - love this! One question: that particular guitar, was it TV Jones Filtertron or Gretsch HS Filtertrons? If TV Jones, which models for bridge and neck? Please advise! Cheers - Jonas, Sweden
"Mother, should I trust the government?" I think we all know the answer to that. A Gretsch IS going to be my next guitar (whenever that happens); I don't know which model, though.
wow! chills! great sounding guitar Hey-Maybe on the"scoop ' or Andys corner you could throw up some Gretsch wiring diagrams,cavity shots and Gretsch info. They always have had a non Gibson/Fender way of doing things---I like that! great playin Andy !
@kmcgimsey not by finger picking in a Flamenco or Gypsy manner like... damn I forgot his name... 60s Gypsy Guitarist with a name meaning Piece of Silver or something... anyway... you can pick with your index fingernail as if you were holding a pick. That's how I play :D
@TheBillStickers well you can to that extent ill concur, i assumed it was in the classical manner, like ive the nails for classical guitar playing but cannot do any fingerpicking on my electric, destroys the finish of my nail
@kmcgimsey you havent watched many pgs videos have you? they made strictly regarding various guitarists' playing technique, one of which was andy, where he describes his nail technique
I think a good way to improve this kinda guitar reviews would be putting them side by side to more common guitars like a les paul or strat. so u can go like. this is how a strat sounds like and this is how a lp sounds like. it sorta gives ppl a better idea of where the sound sits.
@Stringprodigy That's going to totally depend on how you set it up isn't it? - The necks on any Gretsch I've ever played were a little chunky,but as long as you can get action how you want it- what else is there?
@moucon not at all! It also depends on the neck radius, profile, neck thickness, fret work, plek job, how well the neck is set, etc....Some guitars just don't feel right no matter how you set them up. You could perfectly set up a cheap Fender, but it would never play as well as a Suhr, Anderson, Grosh etc...
It's not fair for the rest of youtube that any video with Andy playing will get a +1 from anyone who crosses it. It doesn't even matter if you don't like the product either :)
@kerranz rock and roll - how to you intonate an old "TV" Les Paul Jr with the crap wrap/around combo bridge/tailpiece. ? Get it in tune open and hope is about all you can do. You're not gonna do any Segovia Etudes on this are you? ;-)

@MrFenderbender97 good styles of music.

@MrFenderbender97 Gretsch guitars particularly excel at surf music and rockabilly but of course, how you play is what really matters.
