Even those of us who grew up and lived in Dallas watched the show but would occasionally roll our eyes at the over-the-top Texas stereotypes like everyone wearing cowboy hats - nobody wore them, especially in downtown Dallas where business attire was (and still is) more Brooks Brothers than western wear. And how/why so many of them lived together in that house, which wasn't very big, was baffling...but it was fun, mindless Friday night entertainment with one heck of a catchy intro tune!
@nixonplumber The two roads are the Houston St. Viaduct (on the left) and Jefferson St. Viaduct (on the right). They're not highways. The viaducts (local terminology for the bridges over the Trinity River) connect downtown Dallas to Oak Cliff, the portion of Dallas just south of the river. Houston St. is one-way traffic out of downtown and Jefferson St. is one-way into downtown. The camera is zooming from SW to NE.
in the opening credits - there are 2 gold-plated skyscrapers - probably on the Stemmons Freeway (im a usual Houston tourist who has worked photo gigs in Addison since xmas 2011)...
@clkhp Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays I enjoyed watching the following... Garfield and Friends Real Ghostbuster TMNTs MacGuyver Maimi Vice Perfect Strangers The Equalizer Twilight Zone (1985 version) The Hitchhiker Unsolved Mysteries (All Robert Stack hostings) as a little munchkin.. ah those were the days ;-)
Memories of Friday nights growing up in the 1980's. At 9pm on Friday night, the television was tuned to Channel 2 (CBS then, Fox now) here (Detroit) and we did not dare bother my parents unless it was a commercial or the end credits were rolling! Following that at 10pm was Falcon Crest, same thing, don't bother our parents! For that we (me, my brother and sister) got to stay up until 11pm, that night only! Ahhhh, memories....
@skywheelrider boy i am right there with u! i did not bother my mother or grandmother in the middle of dallas or falcon crest!! living here in fort worth boy that was the shit!!!! everybody here in dfw had that channel 4 which is now fox and i think my grandfather even closed down his store early for these shows on fri night!!!! lol
I think I was the only 8 year old who cared who shot JR. Whenever I drove to Dallas I would start singing this song when I crossed into TX (it's about an hour from the TX/OK border).
@VioletKitty411 Trust me, you weren't the only 8 year old who cared about who shot Jr. My whole neighborhood were at each others houses, at that age, that night when it was revealled.
Just wondering what the new intro is going to look like.
Are they going to incorporate Cowboys Stadium in the flyover since Texas Stadium no longer exists?

@skywheelrider yes! I had these memories too. I watched it with my mom, despite not really understanding. But the theme always stayed in my head!
