wot type of pen are u using as when i draw my picture in pen it just seems to smudge or blobs of it comes out and ruins it so i tend to use only pencil then colour using watercolour or sommin..???
Hi! It depends on the drawing, but I usually use an ultra-fine point Sharpie for detailed work on camera, and a regular fine point for filling in larger black areas. When I am not drawing on camera, I usually use technical pens and brush pens, and just Sharpies to "spot" the blacks (which means to fill in the black areas). But, basically, I use whatever gets me the line I am looking for.
Moreson when I draw on camera, and without any underdrawing, yes. If I do make a mistake when I draw, and it's not too major, I try to work it into the drawing somehow.
Thanks for the comment! For pencils, pretty much any decent brand will do. I just use regular #2 lead pencils which you can buy anywhere. For poses, the things to concentrate on are things like perspective and foreshortening, and anatomy. As for more specific information than that, I am not too good at explaining things.
Thanks! I don't look at anything when I draw, unless I am not familiar with a character and I need reference. Most characters from DC and Marvel comics I am familiar with enough that I don't need reference.
Hi! I did draw a picture of Superman fighting The Hulk, which you can find on my videos. I will try to get around to drawing a solo Superman sometime in the future. Thanks!
wow! cant wait to see it!^^ how about ICHIGO KURUSAGI of BLEACH anime.. sorry for asking too much from you..^_^ you're very talented man keep it up!^^ and keep ur feet on D ground.. sniff sniff.. LOL!^_^
When you apply the shadows, where does your light source usually originate? Do you assume a natural light source, or artificial, such as a lamp or other sort? I'm an artist myself, and I'm just collecting input for future references. Thanks.
Hi! It seems that I usually have the lighting coming from the upper left side, but really it just depends on the picture for me. I guess I would say that I assume a natural light source unless the figure is indoors. Thanks!
Thank you for the quick answer. If it's okay, I have another. Did you watch a lot of cartoons in your younger days, and adapt your drawing style from that?
Hi again! I did watch a lot of cartoons as a child, but my main influences come from comic book artist such as Jack Kirby, John Buscema, John Byrne and George Perez.
Hi! It's hard to explain, but basically when drawing shadows the artist needs to keep in mind where the light source is supposed to be. Thanks for watching.
Sorry, Accidentally spamed my own comment, Matt. watched & loved all ur drawings, man, and just wonderin' if you could sketch out Prime, Nemesis Prime, Scourge, or Black Convoy as a new VID, thanx.
after watching all those vidoes, dude, i found that all of ur sketches are awesome, it'd be even more awesome putting a video o U drawing Optimus ,Scourge, or Black Convoy ;-)
oh yeah and believe it or not,I understand the angle of the hands and thae fingers and the whole green lantern because I do loads of different angles myself so in my opinion
He has all four fingers and a thumb. The thumb is drawn from a certain angle, with some foreshortening. It might be more obvious if the video quality was better. Thanks again! -- Matt
Matt, I think you're a great artist, probably the best I've personally seen, you are the reason why I'm going to try and draw good. (Yet I'll never be as good as you)
Thanks for the kind words! It took me about 25 minutes from pencils to finished inks. Many of my drawing videos are in real-time, and usually take me about ten minutes, but I do not sketch the figures out in pencil or ink in as much detail as I did on this piece. -- Matt
Hey,Matt, why do you hold the pencil with the midle finger?(or something like that). I`ve seen all your othe videos and you always hold the pencil like that. If that make the draw look better, teel me. You`re great.keep like this!
has anyone else besides me noticed green lantern has an alter raced ego? im not sure if its in the Justice League of America/ or the Justice friends but one is white and the others black...random tidbit just though i'd share it with you.
Hi! They are two different Green Lanterns. The one I drew here is Hal Jordan. The character in the cartoon (and also from the comics) is John Stewart. Both are friends and appear in the comics currently. Thanks! -- Matt
There are thousands of Green lanterns actually, one for each planet, Earth however has 5, Hal Jordan, Guy Gardner, Kyle Rainer, John Stewart, and Killowog.
It's nice to know someone knows the GLs as well as I do. BUT after the whole "Rebirth" shebang, Killowog was appointed to Earth as 2814.5. The other 4 being Hal, Guy, Kyle, and John.
By the way, I was so caught up in GL geekdom that I forgot to compliment you on a very awesome drawing. Your others are just as good, and you have alot of talent.
Thank you, Eric! I wish I could explain how to ink, but, aside from some pointers here and there, I really don't know how to explain how to do it. Happy holidays! -- Matt
Hi Schecter! That's a Pilot precise grip pen that can be found at any office store. I use all sorts of pens. Some people will tell you to only use certain pens or brushes, but in art you use whatever gets the results that you want. If it looks good to you, and feels right, use whatever tool you like best. Thanks! -- Matt
Wow! So like when you sell these online to your fans how much money do you get for them?Is it in the $20 range or higher??? I'd also like to know who influenced your drawing style? Very rad stuff man.
Thanks! I haven't done a lot of commissions (I don't get much time with the shop, my own comic, etc), but usually it starts at $30. My major influences are John Byrne and George Perez, but there are many other fine artists that inspired and inspire me. -- Matt
Alright... My comment wasnt allowed to be any longer so I will just have to post a second half here ;-)
-The Shades is always placed right, and i have now watched all your shows so let this comment work for all the heroes :-) ( except the X-men stick fight xD )
Thank you very much for the kind words, Kashade. I appreciate the compliments and that you have watched my videos. Please keep checking back, as I will be adding more soon. -- Matt
Again Impressed. I am impressed how you get all the proportions right and the anatomy is correct down to the slightest detail. - I can see you love drawing heroes and I bet thats because their anatomy is so marked and outstanding - Muscles ect. And I enjoy watching the video and see how you start and end. I most draw portraits closeup so normally I dont get the whole anatomy going which is a shame because when I see this I think: "God, I wish I could draw such realisme into my bodies."
Hi! It took me longer than it should have, frankly, due to filming conditions. About 25 minutes. Most of the "Quick Draw" segments take about 10 minutes in real time. Thanks for the kind words! -- Matt
Dang this is good stuff! Do you vizualize a picture of how you want him in your head or do you just draw ?
