I envy you guys believing in God. Me and God parted a year back, and I haven't found total peace yet. I have had a lot of sleepless nights thinking about the thing I believe is after death; darkness. To think that I only have approxomately 100 years in this, and any world, is a horrible thought. But this is what I've settled with, maybe I will reunite with God once more. I don't know, but I sincerely hope so. And I wish that you atheists would stop nagging on the believers. Theyre the fortunate.
@eituzett actually i feel horrible for the people that believe in a god and eternity of heaven if it actually exsisted. Sure 100 years all bliss might be great and maybe you could get through a 1000 but knowing there is no end in sight would be a true hell. Thank you but i want to rest in peace.
@hellasow Would you seriously rather choose nothing at all, ever ? And heaven is, according to believers, the perfect match for your wishes. So there could be an end to it, maybe God could delete a lot of your memories and tell you when he was going to do so...
@eituzett there would be no point in doing anything in heaven. If you did not do something today. ah it can wait another million years, i will get around to it. Knowing that there is an end gives purpose to your life. You only have a set amount of time and that is it. Kinda give you life urgency and meaning.
@Kibalionas Newton one of the best thinkers of all time believed in god and when Newton could not come up with a answer to multi planetary motion of planets he said it was god work. It took another 100 years for someone else to come up with and figure out how the planets move together. When if newton did not have "god" on the brain he could of easily figured it out. Religion retards even the best of us into lazy thinking.
@hellasow you have a false understanding about religion. I'm not talkng about the particular religion, u can create your own if u like it, but may that religion serve to order, not to chaos. BECOUSE only order can create something, while chaos only can destroy and corrupt, they just use things . Having no religion leads to nihilism.
@Kibalionas ok 1st minor point you capitalized(yelled) "becouse" at me twice, it is spelled "because"...i assume english is a 2nd language for you. 2nd being a athiest(country/group) is not equal to chaos. It could be easily argued the most atheist/agnostic countries today are some of the most peaceful. What are the chaotic atheist countries? i could name a whole bunch of unstable ones that are religious. Your argument is greatly flawed.

Enough about religious mumbo jumbo, about the video: it seems that Einstein’s General Relativity is only half the picture. The true secrets of the citadel of the galaxies lies with our understanding of Dark Matter; unfortunately which we know little about.
I would much rather take my chances out there amongst the stars..Habla huk ba cant blow me up out there. no god to bow down to and no man to answere to. Only on planet Earth.Ya can keep the planet.just let me get off,eh..Im heading for that star.

I was sad not to see the Pillars of Creation, but these images were awesome.
The CG/photos were fom the last overhaul of the Hubble, correct?
Lets just say, that all those galaxies are elements, a compilation of atoms, of solar systems with the each sun being the nucleus, so in that perspective the universe is acually pretty small, not compared to us, but something a lot lol acually like 533,79003-,98990 billion times bigger than us , just making up numbers but u catch my drift , so lets just say something a really bigger than us is just looking through a microscope and looking at some atoms likeweDOtryingTOfigureOUTwhereWEcameFROM
Answer me this--how long do you think you are suposed to live in the eternal afterlife?
Ask yourself this- eternal means forever...forever means Billions upon Billions of years..then you can make the numbers bigger by a factor of 1000 or 10,000,so you want to be eternal?.trillions+trillions upon trillions of years.....what are you going to do in all those years?? that would be torture in it's self!!

A weird thing to think about for me is that we can't name them. We can ONLY give them numbers, because there are far, far more galaxies than words in our languages. Let alone the hundred billion stars in each one.
I look at this and i think how incredible. I like to think if it were created by a god, why would it concern itself with unimportant pettiness of war and hatred. The god of the bible, is a petty little god filled with hatred anger and evil.
I must say, this video touched me, almost to tears. The observable universe is so beautiful, so amazing, and I am honored to belong to a race that is advanced enough to gaze upon it.
At the same time, I feel saddened. There are still people who reject science in favor of a single book, with the same old, disproved story from so long ago
. It seems like some of us are so eager to advance and to learn; while others are content to reread the same book, over and over, never achieving anything.
You know, I used to care about these people. I used to debate them and tell them were they went wrong, but I figured, it's hopeless. These people are not willing to even consider that they might be wrong. I therefore decided to let them be as long as they don't try to push their religious views into my schools and governmental institutions. But I understand your frustration.
While I can understand, although not agree, how such majesty in the universe might lead one to the conclusion that there must be an all-powerful creator... from what in this video would you draw any conclusion that supports any specific religion of man?
On the other hand one might be religious in a way that einstein was, as in not in the belief of a personal god but rather the mystery of the universe.
I'm not a Christian. :P I'm an agnostic eclectic neo-pagan. But anyway...
Yeah, that bugs me too. We're a tiny, tiny blip in the ever-flowing river of time, and an even smaller blip when you think of how immense the universe is. Human arrogance leads to so many problems. :(
@Snakelover23 You do realise that he was just stating his opinion, right? He is not bringing down the bible, you are just to intolerant to realise that people should be able to state thier beliefs, even if they are different than your's.
@Snakelover23 - The Bible advocates slavery, sexism, racism, and genocide. Consider this statement from the Bible: “If a woman is not a virgin on her wedding night, she should be stoned to death at her father’s door step”. Criticizing scripture as disgusting, and evil, and sadistic as this, is definitely a good thing for the human species.
@Snakelover23 So atheists should keep quiet, is that it? Meantime, religious dullards like you will continue to screech your nonsense at every opportunity, seek to oppress those who disagree, suppress science and the education of the young in what is provable and true, and generally try to drag everyone back into another dark ages. The bible is fairytale nonsense and you're a fool for believing it.
How interesting, and telling, is the religious believers' first natural impulse faced with any perceived disagreement with their cherished mythology: an imperious demand for silence!
Their true colors are clearly shown- intolerance and hostility are their hallmarks. Censorship, and suppression of any opposition to their beliefs are their goals.
Well, guess what?
We live in one of the few places and times in history where you Believers DON'T have the power to force the rest of us to conform!
This makes me sad. Sad because we're trapped here on this "pale blue dot". There's endless beauty and wonder out there... and we may never get to experience it :[
Almost unbearably beautiful. It is difficult even for those of us who exercise our imaginations as a matter of course to conceive that all of this is happening out there NOW; galaxies coalescing, dancing, dying. The enormity of it is so overwhelming contemplation of it makes one's consciousness feel on the verge of dissolution. Stunning, stunning work.
This is why I can not believe that it was all made for humans; our civilisation is not limited to and will never die out on this planet. We shall venture forth and return to the stars from whence we came.
For 'we look upon the heavens so that one day our children may look back towards home'
wow.. i can't wait to see what the nextgen of telescopes will find.
The people working on this scientific front make me proud to be part of the human species! if only we spent more money and effort on exploring the universe
hahahahaha yeah maybe.. but I think not. Jesus is with us now, all the time, no need to expand our knowledge. PFFFF I think theists would like us to all go back to living like the sand dwelling retards who came up with Jesus and 'gods'. They can't comprehend we a but a speck of dust in the cosmos.
Like Stephen Hawkin said - We are just an advanced breed of monkeys on a minor planet of a very average star. But we can understand the Universe. That makes us something very special.
... the last thing I read was that new images wouldn't be forthcoming for a few month's- tests on new instrumentation and whatnot- but we should give kudos to the crew of sts-125, the 4th and final serving mission to Hubble, especially John Grunsfeld and Drew Feustel for their amazing work repaing failing instruments and installing Hubbles new 'wider eyes'- the better to see in UV and IR. Here's to more images like the ones in this great video for (at least) five more yeas.
This, for me, is proof that ANY established/widely believed religion on this Earth is faulty. It's staggering that we can see images from THAT far back in time.
I've been on a couple sites that actually lower a picture/video/quiz's rating if it's viewed and not voted on. Each non-vote counted as a zero star, in other words. So, that tends to be a reminder on my part.
Also... Arp! Arp arp arp! What's with these astronomers naming these galazies?
Humans on long space journeys, isolated from the general gene pool for long, long periods...eventually speciation a possibility. What would this new species think of the old on a return to the earth..I wonder.
this...is the most depressing...video ever...frankly I think this will convert more peoplt o Christianity...then athiesim or science and such.....man. It's always hit me, but just...seeing all this makes me wish there was a afterlife, or a god...or even reincarnation, so I could some day get to see all that up close. Thats my only regret in life that I will probably not live long to see all this beauyty even closer.
First and most important: this video never claimed to want to convert someone to anything. That's just your interpretation and I don't know where you are getting that from (wishful thinking?).
Second: if you already can deceive yourself in such great ways, like thinking to convert to some religion to get a "ticket" to see this beauty up close sometimes, I don't know why you are watching a science video in the first place.
Btw. these are some of the best depression figthing images I know.
"Btw. these are some of the best depression figthing images I know."
Nothing kills my depression like a reminder of how insignificant our planet and its inhabitants are, in a seemingly infinite and incomprehensibly old universe.
these are so amazing. :> And I love them and everything, my only meaning with depression is, knowing that there is so much that I will never get to see, imagine not just seeing all these things from a distance, but being up close and personal and watching these things nearby.
If something like this would be shown every day instead of only one of the daily soaps or talk shows, the world would surely be a better and more peaceful place. By realizing the own insignificance in the universe, it becomes all the more significant, what you do in your one and only life and in the life of others. I can't really explain it, but for me every believe in something supernatural only subtracts from this feeling.
Just think we're conveniently placed in the spiral arm of our galaxy allowing us to witness all this beauty, we're truly touched by his noodly appendage, ramen.
In his great noodleness, our slender lord has ordained that in a few billion years or so (3-4) the Andromeda galaxy will hit our own and royally fuck up the Milkey Way, our solar system included.
So we'd better get moving on that whole space exploration thing because our blessings of noodles woun't last forever.
may his holy noodly appendage gently touch us all and guide us in the narrow path. RAMEN.

Consider this statement from the Bible: “If a woman is not a virgin on her wedding night, she should be stoned to death at her father’s door step”. Criticizing scripture as disgusting, and evil, and sadistic as this, is definitely a good thing for the human species.
MarvelsofaLifetime 1 year ago

We shall venture forth and return to the stars from whence we came.

hahahahaha yeah maybe.. but I think not.

OneClownShoe 2 years ago
... the last thing I read was that new images wouldn't be forthcoming for a few month's- tests on new instrumentation and whatnot- but we should give kudos to the crew of sts-125, the 4th and final serving mission to Hubble, especially John Grunsfeld and Drew Feustel for their amazing work repaing failing instruments and installing Hubbles new 'wider eyes'- the better to see in UV and IR. Here's to more images like the ones in this great video for (at least) five more yeas.

I love how every single video asks to fight against the votebots. Isn't that a bit presumptuous for a video that's neutral like this one?
ReverendLondo 2 years ago
I'd have to agree, seems like it's being milked, but in all fairness, I never really vote without a reminder.
RexFordVII 2 years ago
I've been on a couple sites that actually lower a picture/video/quiz's rating if it's viewed and not voted on. Each non-vote counted as a zero star, in other words. So, that tends to be a reminder on my part.
Also... Arp! Arp arp arp! What's with these astronomers naming these galazies?
ReverendLondo 2 years ago
Well, cut them some slack, there are 200-400 billion stars in the Milky Way Galaxy alone that we need to name.
Ford named less than 100 cars before they started doling out numeric designations.

this...is the most depressing...video ever...frankly I think this will convert more peoplt o Christianity...then athiesim or science and such.....man. It's always hit me, but just...seeing all this makes me wish there was a afterlife, or a god...or even reincarnation, so I could some day get to see all that up close. Thats my only regret in life that I will probably not live long to see all this beauyty even closer.
wolfwing1 2 years ago

Spanky00Cheeks 2 years ago
these are so amazing. :> And I love them and everything, my only meaning with depression is, knowing that there is so much that I will never get to see, imagine not just seeing all these things from a distance, but being up close and personal and watching these things nearby.

it's a real shame we'll never get to see these beautiful sights with our own eyes.
rod31808 2 years ago
If something like this would be shown every day instead of only one of the daily soaps or talk shows, the world would surely be a better and more peaceful place. By realizing the own insignificance in the universe, it becomes all the more significant, what you do in your one and only life and in the life of others. I can't really explain it, but for me every believe in something supernatural only subtracts from this feeling.
polyatheist 2 years ago 3
Just think we're conveniently placed in the spiral arm of our galaxy allowing us to witness all this beauty, we're truly touched by his noodly appendage, ramen.

friends, friends, we mustn't fight.
