  • ill try to post a video to try to explain to you what happened to my guitar dave... it's insane... im not happy with this guitar... but it sounds amazing. its just ... a piece of junk .. if you saw it, you would immedatley make an expensive fire with it..

  • What action was there at the 12th fret that meritted a neck reset? Was there no room to file off bottom of saddle?

  • @MrGraham001

the action at the 12th was about 1/4 inch :(

  • Dave, three Canadian quarters use to be worth .185 cents to the American dollar but it's more like at par now so it is .75 not .185.........

  • Maybe I missed the reason an acoustin needs a neck reset. So I'll ask...why does in need a neck reset? How would I know if my guitar needs one?

Thanks...and I love watching your stuff. Very helpful.

  • @twtwtw1

    string action is too high

bridge and saddle work won't help

    Cheers !!!

  • Hi there Dave, I have an Ovation Celebrity acoustic bass guitar that looks like it's in need of a neck reset. Only thing is, as we all know, it ain't exactly made entirely of wood. Someone told me they use epoxy to glue the neck on to the body when made in the factory. So I guess my question is, is a neck reset even possible or worth it?? Thanks

  • @iluvvsmp2

    yer friend is correct

a JDL bridge doctor may help

    google it

    Cheers !!!

  • GREAT VID DAVE!..i enjoy the funny ones, and the food ones..but you were serous as a heart attack on this one...lotta good advice and info...THANKS DAVE!!

  • Hay Dave - this vid is being featured on the front page. Great!

  • @Stratboy999

    No shit !!!!

    how do I look?

  • Hi Dave. You complain about stewmac prices, but you bought the neck removal tool. You can acheive the same result with 3 pieces of wood, 2 nuts and bolts and 3, 6 inch clamps. You'll need to think about that. It's an elegant solution. Also, when you're applying the steam you should have the guitar clamped upside down to avoid water collecting at within the dovetail if you have a difficult and prolonged removal. I've learnt this to my cost

  • @dubskinz

    it was a gift :(

I like to just wiggle it off

  • I HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM :O should i stop playing it, before it gets worst?

  • @masicklazik

    no

    you cant make it worse

  • @davey4557 thank you man! i love this guitar, its a 1968 PAN, guitar, its from japan, and its sooooo akward.

ill send you a nice big boring email about it if you want? =) haha

  • Hey man, you're not in the Toronto area, are you?

  • @Andy8Tran

    yes

    Toronto

    downtown :(

  • So I take it this is necessitated because bringing the bridge up to make the "triangle" formula jibe would do nothing about the crazy high action. In fact make it worse.

I think I seen some other guy elect to shim under the fretboard rather than to remove 3/64th from the base of heel. My guess is that's the cheap way and would compromise resonance even if the type of wood shim and glue was married perfectly in a dehumidify chamber.

  • @xxxMrSuspendedxxx

traditional neck reset require material be removed from the heel to create the correct angle

  • @davey4557 Maybe that other guy was correcting a back-bow, but I forgot. But if he was it seems that he'd need to add material to the heel also to prevent a void.

The geometry don't lie. But the miracle of the truss rod will compensate for the correction on that triangle formula I guess.

  • so if u over shoot ur numbers do you build him a new guitar...?

    ..this is real guitar repair...

    ...looking forward to this process...

  • @squidskunk

    There is some tolerance :)

It may need the saddle tweaked after the re glue and fret level and dressing

    + or - 1/64 "

  • i would tell you good luck Dave but you have way to much skill to need luck!

  • @NickedBlade

    look out :)

  • very informative video as always dave.

  • @MrBuddyHolly1

    thanks for the comment

  • my saddle is low/loose in the bridge...fix? new saddle?

  • @unibrow9

what is the value of the guitar?

  • @davey4557 uhh about 500$

  • JLD Bridge doctor ? are they any good? heard they can reduce a belly quite an amoun t

  • @tazio2

I'm told it's a great economical fix for a guitar that can't have a neck reset.

    I think it's worth a shot

    they are not that exspensive

  • holy triangulation cool formula

  • This is scary! But fun to watch and ponder. . . I know this is a stupid question but here goes. Is the guitar properly humidified so the bulge on the top is the normal condition of this old guitar? I saw a video that took the bulge out of a guitar top by humidifying a Winter-dry guitar in the case. It works, I tried it. Maybe you are assuming that us guitar dummies out here already know aboot humidity. I really appreciate your videos: methodical and skillful without pretense. Rock on!

  • @minorpentatonic5

The guitar has simply done what most acoustics do over time...

they belly up due to many reasons, humidity being just one factor.

Once the neck is reset it will good for many many years

  • Great Video Dave im rolling in the floor laughing.

    Thanks keep em komming

  • Scares the crap outa me just pondering the idea of steaming a fucking neck off! I watched a video of a guy drilling holes and putting tubes in and shooting steam down in the neck joint. How do I put this? It was like watching someone pull the teeth from a baby!!! Bout shit myself from anguish!

Don't think I could be a surgeon, monkey hands or not. Clearly I'm a big fan of the bolt in neck.

    Loved the video though!

    Always learn things from ya.

  • surgeon with monkey's hands: ROFL :-)

what are the symptoms of a wrongly set neck angle?

  • @laspijker

the string action will be off

it will not play nice :)

  • I hope I don't have to do that to my 12 string....it scares me

  • Your straight forward analysis of this acoustic are right on track. The guitar looks healthy enough to go through with the operation unlike that other guitar that suffered from disintegration of the heel.

I'm setting myself up for a future in guitar problems with the intent to purchase some Stewmacs useful stuff. Minimalist style.

Damn fret bender is 80 million dollars! I scoured the net and found a person @tdpri that made a bender from homedepot parts and thought yeh how hard can that be?

  • yeah i'm not gonna eat granola bars on purpose, someone needs to murder whoever puts these ads on your videos.

  • @FatGuyWithAKatana

I don't know which browser do you use. I use opera, and there is an extension called Youtube AdsFree, so you don't have to watch that shit.

I'm sure there is something similar for Mozilla and others.

  • @FatGuyWithAKatana

    firefox with adblocker

  • @davey4557 no way, google chrome is gooder

  • Comment removed

  • excellent video. Can't wait to see more

  • @williamvzajac

    fuking guitars :)

  • Thank YOU Dave!!! You should title this video...."This is the Holy Grail of neck resets" Absolutely the best, Thanks for the information. Hobby? Dude you are a professional!

    Here we go! Thanks!!

  • @dbhoward56

    Cheers !!

    Thanks for the support

  • That's neat stuff. How did you figure all that out on the old Martin?

  • @oldfatguyrr1

    Like Tesla..

I used a part of my brain that was doing fuk all and just kept thinking about it ....

  • stewmac is crazyled priced! just to buy some tools to start is around 500

  • @ILove31415

They seduce the hobbyist and ass fuk them later when you really can't do what you figured you thought you could do :(

sort of what a whore does to a trick...
