He had them down and whining for him to stop. Therefore, the threat was neutralized at that point. I believe if he had stopped when the other clerk tried to take the rod from his hand, there would be no chance of the charges against him sticking.
Because from that point on, it was no longer self-defense. And I still believe the two women deserved that whipping, but it went to the point where self-defense was not justified. I guarantee you that this is how the D.A. will present it.

Seeing this is bitter sweet for me because I work in customer service. Though no one has gotten violent, I've dealt with A LOT of people who feel like they can say or do whatever they want to you just because.
