  • How do you play that fast at the bottom of the bow!!? I sound all sticky and scratchy if I do that.

  • OMG how do you play this etude?? My arms tense up so bad from trying to play this. : (

  • how old was he here?

  • @euryanteus i've got the barenreiter edition and you're absolutely right, he does skip two whole beats in bar 59

  • Lol!! Oh Mr.Richard Aaron!!! He's a phenomenal teacher!!

  • Now I got it, He studied with Mr. Richard Aaron, that´s why he plays so good.

  • yes please mister roman, if you could answer this question , the one who noticed this was my father , who has practiced this etude for years evrey day,..so?im a violinist and i know this etude by heart ...i mean no disrespect. you are a fantastic musician but , is he right or not?

  • if my popper was as good as yours, my teacher might actually express her love for me.

  • bravo!

  • Great Job. I dont know how old you are, but by the looks of it, you are extremely talented beyond your years. Keep up the fantastic work. It doesnt take a genius to see that you got it kid. Not just the skill, and the chops, but the soul. You know how to speak your mind through your playing. Anyways, enjoyed the video. From one cellist to another, that etude is no walk in the park. :)

  • good work

  • I envy your being able to play so relaxed even with that debilitating hoodie on.... Great work.

  • Excellent, congratulations !

  • I'm playing this for my college auditions in February and I have to say this is truly inspiring. It was awesome :) If I can get it even close to that speed they better not reject me! lol :) But seriously, that was really great. Kudos :)

  • ugh me too except it's in a month. Xo

  • Maybe I'm just a chicken, but I bet this is just as nerve racking as all the concerto premieres you've been doing lately, if not more so! Phew, you're doing awesome though and inspiring tons of players out there in the youtube world, including me. Thanks, Joshua!

The Oklahoman violist you met at YTSO. Keep it up!

  • Im nobody to criticize mister Joshua Roman he's one of the best cellist of our time and im sorry to point this out but .....isn't he missing the last two beats of bar 59 ?

  • well, my dear friend i'm not judje or jury 0.51 it's ok but don't be so hard on yourself just learn from him: don't forget to check the book from time to time......i've learned it........ the hard way, belive me...

  • um, i think...so...maybe. it kinda seems like it....

  • Well, honestly i have not seen the baerenreiter edition, but i dont think editors make diferences of half a bar... i mean ... its 8 semiquavers missing here.... or is the baerenreiter edition half a bar shorter than all the other ones ? is the bar no.59 in 2/4 while the whole etude is in 4/4 ? please forgive me if my answer is rude i have no intetion to be disrespectful just tryng to make my point. ok?

  • yeah.

why would everyone dislike this comment? there's nothing wrong with it.

  • @euryanteus Oh, stop acting like you're inferior. There are lots of cellists this good. God, I wish people would stop with all this worshiping bullshit.

  • David Popperの誕生したオーストリアと姉妹都市の倉敷音楽祭にも来て下さいね。

  • Damn, i wish i could get back to practicing Popper, but my wrists are ravaged by tendonitis.

  • I can't tell whose Popper I like better--yours or Nazar Dzhuryn's!

  • Wow Joshua!

We want number 9! Is Piatti Project next?

  • it's getting harder, keep it up, all the best.

  • I love how cleanly you play these etudes. I'm a cellist and know that many of them are far from easy! This is a great idea, and is motivating me to work up my Popper!
