However. I just got Blender today. The only other editor I've used is Sony Vegas Platinum. I'm lost, and I have no idea where to even begin doing what you've done. If you can help me (or point me to someone who is willing to) I'd be greatly appreciative.
@trumpetdood When I followed the tutorial in the link, I'd really not done anything in Blender before. I just followed the tutorial step by step and ended up with this. If you want to try something simpler to get the same lightsaber effect, I'd recommend Synfig Studio (also free and open-source), which is a 2d-animation program. Lightsabers are basically a 2d effect, so it works well, and it's a lot easier than Blender. You can see the results in the "Video Effects Demoreel" in my channel.
Nice job. For video editing on linux you should check out OpenShot. It's much more capable than PiTiVi. Kaden live is also pretty good, but it crashes.
@purplemutantas I have tried openshot, and found it to be pretty unstable. I haven't tried it recently. I used PiTiVi for this because it was simple and not crashing. Kdenlive has been known to crash, but it's pretty stable, more so than openshot, and much more advanced. With any luck, I'll just do everything in Blender eventually.
@nikolardorafiki From the little bit I have played with OpenShot, it seemed much more stable than kdenlive. Hopefully someone will come up with an open source video editor for linux that at least as good as sony vegas.
@purplemutantas Aaah don't say that quite like that. No one should "come up" with another video editor, one of the reasons things are as bad as they are is that everyone decides to build a new one. Kdenlive used to be unstable for me, but with recent updates it seems rock solid. If openshot is stable now, that's great, but it's still missing a lot of features Kdenlive has. Cinelerra is apparently pretty powerful, just impossible to learn how to use.
fuck!!!!!!!!!!! u put the shit out of me!!... my speaker was high .... there was no sound then bam! u put the sound of the light saber... almost fell off my chair.. nice rotoscoping by the way!
...maybe? I followed the tutorial at the link in the description. I don't use blender often, rarely in fact, and know really nothing about how it works etc. So if the tutorial was using it, then I was too.
thanks god the kitten is all safe...

what version is the blender?

@kahmannstudios I was using version 2.49 when I made this. I'm currently learning the 2.6x series, and it's way better.

Did you do this for project's period?
UnityGirl 2 years ago
No, I just did it during project's period. It would have been a good project to get credit for, though.
