why is it that Ustad Sarahang's best works have such poor sound quality? There are 2 other such postings on youtube which are fantastic like this raag but the recordings are of such poor quality they are barely understandable. Are the original recordings old or has transferring them to youtube resulted in poor quality?
These are from old tape-original private collections for one. Secondly, I have heard a few majlisi recordings of Ustad's classical stuff wherein he was having lots of mic trouble. In one such recording he was getting pretty upset at what was happening. In the Malkauns the tabla and tampouras are coming up fine but the vocals are subdued which makes me suspect there was something wrong with his mics as taped here too.
thanks for replying. I suspected that it was poor original recording. Unfortunately there is no sense in trying to hunt down the original recordings. Its amazing how good sarahang was, its so important to keep his recordings available, he was a rare afghan success story. Thanks for your efforts.
