  • Snake dance..

  • How do you say "she who seeks" in the Chickasaw language? message me. Thanks

  • some choctaw guy brought his naholo wife.lol

  • @kickapoondn aww look at the kiddies jingle dresses and yes screw the naholos. we should stay to ourselves. I am proud to call myself a choctaw/chickasaw/catawba american indian! CHEE PE SA LE CHEE NEE

  • As far as I know the poster of this video has the title of the dance wrong -- our stomp dances are not done like this. This looks like a Snake Dance which involves the dancers joining hands, and the leader of the dance leading the line of people around as it coils and uncurls, ending with a coil and the line of people jumping. Stomp dances are started in a circle, and end in a circle. The songs are call and response; with a very distinct sound. I don't hear a stomp song in the background.

  • Yes. the stomp dance is VERY sacred to its people... and they usually wont allow anyone whos not at least a half blood. They wont let it be filmed and they wont allow cameras inside either. :3

  • Who's grounds are you talking about "Silver?" Don't generalize. Be specific. I've never been to a stomp ground that doesn't let tribal members (no matter their quantum) dance. And, as for the cameras, it depends on the grounds.

  • @SilverHumaneHorse Hidadatseli (We are all one Blood)

  • um i dont think i have any native american blood in me, but i would like to learn more about the culture and stomp dance..and if no one ever filmed it... then well, the rest of the world wouldnt know anything about how great native americans are.. the fact that its sacred, blocks out so much of the outside world, it would be sad if future generations of non natives didnt know anything about your culture..

  • I'll weigh in, too. This is obviously not a stomp dance as done at Kullihoma. It's an exhibition dance done at a gym. I guarantee you that no elders would let you film the stomp dance at Kullihoma, nor would anyone try to, as its sacred.

  • im from oklahoma.

    im alsooo chickasaw. xD

  • Some people think you shouldn't video a stomp dance. I think in this case, since it an exhibition dance, it would be OK, but at one of our Ceremonial Groounds in Oklahoma (at least the Cherokee ones) it would be forbidden. This is obviously not a "real" Stomp, so I don't see the harm. There's alot of things being done in this video that wouldn't be allowed at a Ceremonial Ground....lol

  • my grandmother was chickasaw and i jus wanted to know more about it...but why is it bad to video tape this dance? I really wanna kno lol

  • Here in ada,ok i never heard you couldnt record stomp dances but that you shouldnt touch theyre feathers i learned that the hard way i felt bad because for some reason it was disrespectful,i didnt know much about that.iam chickasaw/choctaw

  • hey yr not suppossed to record this :( but it's cool because i am a stomp dance leader, and a yaki man

  • ur not supposed to tlk abt stompdance to ppl unless they go too. ur especially not sposed to record it. ive grown up around this dance.

  • I'm Creek Indian from Oklahoma I have say that its true that we are not suppose to record the stompdances. Not for show, only for like family matters only.

  • this is just for show i use to stomp dance im from oklahom but now in colorado but back home we r not allowed to record stomp dances

  • stomp dances should never be recorded on videotape.

  • you're right

  • @cheparneycamp

old and new. how will all be preserved if not shared in honor?

  • @cheparneycamp

I agree. A Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) guy sang the Tsalagi (Cherokee) friendship dance at a powwow I was at the other day & it really bugged me. As a traditional stomp dance leader, I would even prefer not to use audio recording to learn songs, but that would probably mean going back to Oklahoma & severely limiting my career.

Dude, don't try to be what your are not. It shows.

    Pach

  • That aint nothing to a real stomp dance. It's way differnt...you think this is cool...go to a real one, as in nothing but stomp dance-n.

  • You are correct. This is just for show to the public. The real stomp dance is for religious and spiritual purpose.
