ps- how did you secure the top planters to the tank below with the 1" x 4"s?? or is that simply balance from the weight of the rocks?

BTW some have privately asked why we used goldfish instead of Tilapia or other fish you can eat. We have raised Tilapia and will do so again, however, some are not interested in raising fish to eat so this shows an alternative. We began using goldfish in the winter to keep the systems running. They are tolerant of the cold.
