@TheBbergner86 According to a police account, the incident began when the cyclist, Jason Scott Rehnberg, 37, yelled at Millican to slow down as they were traveling near Southeast 58th Avenue and Washington Street, police said. Rehnberg told police that "his remarks may have included profanity," according to a news release.
@TheBbergner86 People run down bikes because they are selfish sociopath assholes and it hurts there pride o "have to" respect a "cyclist". FUCK YOU B BERGNER!
I drive when it's cold/can afford it, otherwise I bike.
Seeing things from both sides, it's amazing how far both cyclists, and drivers have their heads up their asses.
Think cyclists should stay off the road? Get your ass out of your car and go try to get from one side of town to the other without using the roads. Then.... politely STFU.
And cyclists who expect drivers can/will see them them, fuck it, you'll figure it out the hard way......if you're lucky.
@pdxktv fyi i ride a bike myself, but the ignorance i have seen from most bikers is inexcusable, you must obey the same laws cars do stop at stop sighns yeild to traffic slower moving traffic must move to the side not hold up cars in ignorance of thinking your bettering the world give me a break.
@bomdigi1 I know!! You never see cars run stop signs or red lights or go over the speed limits. And bicyclists are always running over people and leaving them there to die! Living next to a freeway is so much better than living next to a bike path - Jeez, I just don't understand why bikes are even allowed especially when they hardly even contribute to the oil industry for craps sake!
@bomdigi1 yup i know your type you probably race your engine while little old ladies try to cross the street and side swipe bicyclists who dare to use "your' road.
@pdxktv i sed i ride myself what didnt you understand about that? i stop at sighns and i yeild to traffic i know how it makes me feel so i use my road sense.
I HATE cyclists on the road. It's a HUGE hazard. I don't agree with it and I think they should be on the SIDEWALK just like SKATEBOARDS, TRICYCLES, UNICYCLES oh and PEDESTRIANS pretty much any other moving object thats NOT traveling at 45 MPH or MORE.
@pdxktv Actually, I almost never see cars running red lights and stop signs. MOST cyclists I see completely ignore red lights, stop signs, and all the other rules of the road. Bicycles are great, but many bicyclists I see need some sort of training.
Haha, trust me... there will not be enough hours in the life of a low life lout such as yourself to warrant even giving a dirty look to a cyclist. Shame that driver wasn't charged with several counts of attempted murder, seeing as according to witnesses, he tried to run down several bystanders including the cyclist.
Typical response from a 23 year old male. I don't cycle. I ride a motorbike and drive a car. Occasionally I drive a volunteer rescue truck out to fatal car crashes on highways. Such crashes are usually caused by drivers performing risky manuvers due to impatience... risking their lives, the lives of their family, the lives of others, all to try to get home 30 seconds faster. Impatience kills. Slow down, back off, cool off, accept that you don't own the road, you have to share it with everyone.

I don't drive. I ride a bus. I love the irony of being in a delayed bus due to not being able to pass cyclists who are a metre from the kerb and demand you go on the other side.
Makes sense to me. Cyclists taking the lane force people in motor vehicles to wait for a chance to perform a legal overtaking maneuver, instead of gambling with the life of cyclists by passing with an inch to spare. Funny how in a public place, a person will be happy to spend 5 seconds holding the door open for another person so it doesn't hit them on the nose, yet in a car, waiting 10 seconds for a safe opportunity to pass a cyclist so as not to kill them, is an absurd and unreasonable request?
@alextact Some people just get really pissed driving cars, i think cyclists should try and understand that so they dont have to taunt these rage machines into plowing them over. Because it will happen. So it comes down to eliminating the road rage of billions of drivers or cyclists taking alternate routes that dont involve biking in the middle of a street.
Grasshopper you must learn the mysterious art of making a safe, legal and courteous pass. Then you wouldn't lose so many hours. It seldom takes more than a few seconds.
Uhm, what exacly did the cyclist say to the driver? why? these are some questions left unanswered. but even so, the person in the car had no right trying to run him over, he did nobody any good, would have done him more good to pull over and ask the cyclist what he was yelling about so he could have solved the problem with words. ahh hes done was risk other lives and got lost more than just his ego.
Hitting the brakes at that intersection is attempted murder. If that guy slipped off the hood there, he would've been instantly killed by traffic. The driver needs YEARS in prison.

This stuff is staged in that community all the time.. I live in SE portland, and I see at least 1 incident a week between bikes and cars in the metro area. More often than not the cyclist has provoked an arguement, or enforced a very inaquos rule in a very bloated, and disrespectful way.
PS the video wasn't staged if that's what your are implying. It was used as evidence in the trail against James F. Millican who served time for this assault.
37 year old Jason Rehnberg — on a residential street elicited an admonishment to slow down, gashole! Tires smoked as the driver, 21 year old James Millican, screeched to a halt and leapt out, threatening to beat the cyclist. The cyclist attempted to escape, but after a few moments, jumped off his bike and onto the hood of the car when the still-enraged Millican drove straight at him, crushing his bike.
Now the story on the right makes it kinda believable except that he couldnt have held onto the windshield wipers because at the high speed and the sudden stop they would have broken off..however he could have hung onto the hood by the windshield, the car looked like a 97 or 98 saturn so he could have done that, the drivers window was open though showing that it could be real because he would have heard the biker yell at him and piss him off
K this is a fake...why didnt the guy get off at the stop sign and run, how did the camera guy know that they were taking that exact street at that exact time, the shadow of the camera guy shows that he is holding a video cam and not a cell cam..people dont just carry vid cams it would be more believable if it was a cell phone cam, also if the driver wanted to kill him why did he bother stopping at the stop sign. also ive been hit by a car before, u dont land on it like that you fly away from it!
"Rehnberg and two other witnesses tried to block the car, saying they wanted to get the license plate. Millican allegedly drove at the three and struck Rehnberg, who was thrown onto the hood."
Tell that to James F. Millican. Because of the video above he must do 45-days in jail, 160 hours of community service, pay Rehnberg $800 for lost wages, and be on probation for three years. Millican was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, DUI, and attempted assault (second degree).
Serves him right??? The guy was in the process of saving his own life.
According to the Police report. Millican allegedly drove at Renhberg and two other witness and struck Rehnberg, who was thrown onto the hood. Rehnberg held onto the windshield wipers as the car traveled at a high rate of speed and took a turn.

James is dating my sister i know James that cyclist took advantage of the situation just so him and his other cyclist buddies could have a fighting chance with this protest James isn't guilty of a thing except doing what we all want to do to the cyclists sometimes
Hmm, let me tell you what I want to do to cars and their drivers sometimes. Still, when you cross the line between imagining and actually doing you deserve to have the book thrown at you.
i used to live in portland and i got sick and tired of those self righteous idiots on bikes. i think this was a case of a road rage biker and not the driver why else would he be on the hood of that car? he got what he deserved
I'm a cyclist from Portland who is currently living in Beijing. I've continued to ride my bicycle here in Beijing and recently read about the "motorist vs. cyclist" debate, which seems to be exaggerated by the media. I think Americans are too smug in that we all have this sense of entitlement wherever we go. Just fucking drive your car and just fucking ride your bicycle. Check your egos at the door and be civilized human beings. Here in BJ there are 9 million cyclists who are able to keep cool
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Yeah thats a great comparison, because the ratios are the same. Everyone has a car in China, don't you know? And everyone in America rides a bike. Add in all those (non existent) high speed country highways in China, and no wonder theres less problems with bicycling/motorists.
You're not comparing like to like. Also, its ironic that you're admonishing us to be 'civilized,' presumably with the Chinese as our example...ok, wheres an infant girl, I feel like acting Chinese and murdering her.
I am an avid cyclist and I have experienced many close calls with inattentative drivers, have a complete disregard for cyclists or just try to run cyclists off the roads.
It'd be nice if there were more roads that were wider to allow the cyclists to ride the streets safely then they also appropriately abide the traffic laws as well.
Those cyclists who have a disregard for the traffic laws are the ones who makes things difficult for both drivers and cyclists like me.
I live in Denver & I've nearly been hit multiple times because cars always think they ahve the right of way & the person is usually on their cell phone.
To be fair when i have been dirving I've seen cyclists cut off cars that are goin 30 & have the right of way & then get mad when the guy almost hits them even though it was their fault.
Maybe we should all slow down & pay attention
that & get off your phone when your driving no matter what the vehichle!
My husband and I both ride bikes..my husband rides approx. 5000 miles a year. Let me tell you, there are people in cars/trucks who intentionally try to scare cyclist! I guess they think it's funny to run us off the road. It's illegal to ride on sidewalks here and there are NO bike paths, so we have no choice but to ride on the streets. Maybe if more lazy people would climb out of their gas guzzlers and get their fat rear-ends on a bike it would be a healthier world.
Oh God! Here we go again bringing thoughs into a debate that has nothing to do with the issue! It is car vs bike and it is both rider and driver's responsibility to have the necessary safety eqiptment and to obey all traffic laws. Laziness, gas guzzlers and fat rear-ends has nothing to do with issue of ROAD RAGE!
Let me guess. The last time you hauled your fat ass out of your giant SUV to walk or ride a bike somewhere was maybe ten years ago. And your cell phone is probably attached to your ear the entire time you're driving and to hell with anyone on a bike that dares cross your path. I know the type...and from now on I won't bother responding to their holier than thou remarks.
Talking about holier than thou! How about sitting as jury and judge without even knowing facts. If you must know we bike most every day, hike an average of 15 miles on weekends and my car is a hybrid Honda Civic.
Your judgemental self righteous attitude takes away from the discussion that it is biker and drivers responsibility to obey all laws and operate safely. Period. Now climb down off that pedestal to the rest of us. The occurance in this video was deplorable.
From a former Oregonian who drives to work in California, I think drivers should be happy to share the road with cyclists. Gas prices went down recently because of the drop in US demand. For every cyclist on the road, that's one less person creating demand, and saving you money. I know there are many drivers who freak out every time something causes them to slow down from their top speed, but they should relax and appreciate the savings.

I ride my bike a lot where I live, and I can't stand the way cyclists try to go down busy roads through traffic. They do NOT belong on the road with cars except when unavoidable.
Bicycles on the road are unsafe for everyone, even drivers, who might swerve to miss a cyclist he didnt see. It is a lot easier for a cyclist to see a car than it is for a car to see a cyclist; ditto for slowing down quickly. Cyclists need to favor paths and sidewalks, then use extreme caution on the pavement.
Explain how it is easier for a bicyclist to see a car that is coming from behind him? Maybe if people riding in their cages would pay attention to things around them and not be blabbing their cell phones, it wouldn't be as dangerous. There is no excuse for a driver not to see a cyclist.
I don't know where you live but I commute to work in Baltimore City MD. There are maybe 3 bike lanes in this city and they all exist on the roads. Not only is it necessary to ride on the road here but it is also our lawful right. Anyhow, didn't you read the video's info "James F. Millican was arrested on attempted second-degree assault, driving under the influence of intoxicants, third-degree criminal mischief and reckless driving."
I live and bike in Washington, DC, and there are actually certain sections of the city where it is illegal to ride on sidewalks, and you MUST use the street.
Yea I live in DC too, and you are right. It is absolutely illegal to ride on the sidewaLK in many areas. Bikers are suppose to ride on the street. This guy is just talking out his ass. I love how when some idiots want to make a point they try to first identify themselves as somehow a member of the community that they are addressing. Yea sure this guy rides a bike, but its probably cruising through the neighborhood to admire all the wonderful gentrification.
this video is a set up, why would you be filming the street not knowing what was about to come done it.....

Its not fake. It was all over the news here in Oregon when it happened -- I remember it

Only 45 days in jail?!?!?!
He should go to jail for a few years! Attempted murder, that's what it is!
john3427 3 years ago 4
Looks like he tried to fling him off into that intersection... 45 days seems a bit light. Any therapy and forced medication thrown in?
Lazyboy0008 3 years ago 3
Ok....I stand corrected...still, I don't think I'd be on the hood of any car for that was moving. Was it bravery or sheer stupidity?
KOOLDAVE1953 3 years ago
"Rehnberg and two other witnesses tried to block the car, saying they wanted to get the license plate. Millican allegedly drove at the three and struck Rehnberg, who was thrown onto the hood."

It was staged....
KOOLDAVE1953 3 years ago
Tell that to James F. Millican. Because of the video above he must do 45-days in jail, 160 hours of community service, pay Rehnberg $800 for lost wages, and be on probation for three years. Millican was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, DUI, and attempted assault (second degree).

As a follow up, I wonder how hard it would be to wire a stun gun so that one probe is connected to the hood of the car and the other to the wipers.
Might serve to shake the dumbass off of my hood if I ever have to deal with one of these morons in the future...
Binky40SW 3 years ago
Had that happened the perp might be now be serving hard-time rather than merely jail, community service, and a hefty fine.

Yeah thats a great comparison, because the ratios are the same. Everyone has a car in China, don't you know? And everyone in America rides a bike. Add in all those (non existent) high speed country highways in China, and no wonder theres less problems with bicycling/motorists.
You're not comparing like to like. Also, its ironic that you're admonishing us to be 'civilized,' presumably with the Chinese as our example...ok, wheres an infant girl, I feel like acting Chinese and murdering her.
jackboot88 3 years ago
I do like your advice to "just fucking drive and just fucking ride" though.
jackboot88 3 years ago

Cnote80204 3 years ago 3
My husband and I both ride bikes..my husband rides approx. 5000 miles a year. Let me tell you, there are people in cars/trucks who intentionally try to scare cyclist! I guess they think it's funny to run us off the road. It's illegal to ride on sidewalks here and there are NO bike paths, so we have no choice but to ride on the streets. Maybe if more lazy people would climb out of their gas guzzlers and get their fat rear-ends on a bike it would be a healthier world.
roostergirl5 3 years ago
Oh God! Here we go again bringing thoughs into a debate that has nothing to do with the issue! It is car vs bike and it is both rider and driver's responsibility to have the necessary safety eqiptment and to obey all traffic laws. Laziness, gas guzzlers and fat rear-ends has nothing to do with issue of ROAD RAGE!
khicks29 3 years ago
Let me guess. The last time you hauled your fat ass out of your giant SUV to walk or ride a bike somewhere was maybe ten years ago. And your cell phone is probably attached to your ear the entire time you're driving and to hell with anyone on a bike that dares cross your path. I know the type...and from now on I won't bother responding to their holier than thou remarks.
roostergirl5 3 years ago
Talking about holier than thou! How about sitting as jury and judge without even knowing facts. If you must know we bike most every day, hike an average of 15 miles on weekends and my car is a hybrid Honda Civic.
Your judgemental self righteous attitude takes away from the discussion that it is biker and drivers responsibility to obey all laws and operate safely. Period. Now climb down off that pedestal to the rest of us. The occurance in this video was deplorable.
khicks29 3 years ago

Cyclists need to favor paths and sidewalks, then use extreme caution on the pavement.
dtharter 3 years ago
Explain how it is easier for a bicyclist to see a car that is coming from behind him? Maybe if people riding in their cages would pay attention to things around them and not be blabbing their cell phones, it wouldn't be as dangerous. There is no excuse for a driver not to see a cyclist.
massraven 3 years ago 12
I don't know where you live but I commute to work in Baltimore City MD. There are maybe 3 bike lanes in this city and they all exist on the roads. Not only is it necessary to ride on the road here but it is also our lawful right. Anyhow, didn't you read the video's info "James F. Millican was arrested on attempted second-degree assault, driving under the influence of intoxicants, third-degree criminal mischief and reckless driving."
estimatd 3 years ago 8
I live and bike in Washington, DC, and there are actually certain sections of the city where it is illegal to ride on sidewalks, and you MUST use the street.
serialcarpins 3 years ago 6
Yea I live in DC too, and you are right. It is absolutely illegal to ride on the sidewaLK in many areas. Bikers are suppose to ride on the street. This guy is just talking out his ass. I love how when some idiots want to make a point they try to first identify themselves as somehow a member of the community that they are addressing. Yea sure this guy rides a bike, but its probably cruising through the neighborhood to admire all the wonderful gentrification.
