In Canada, I have found the best is "L'il Goat's" Zinc Oxide ointment ! It also has 40% zinc oxide and goats milk in it! It is meant to be used at every diaper change as it protects the skin and prevents diaper rash as well as curing it! It can also be used by adults and children of all ages for any type of rash or skin irritation!
I too love this!!! I ran a day care and it was the only thing I would use as it was amazing how it cleared up any soreness/rash.
I know this sounds weird but my son had diaherra w/ the flu and the dr had me put him in the tub with a 1/2 cup vinegar. He smelled like a pickle but it pulled the redness out of the diaper area and then i coated with this Balmex and it cleared up wonderfully.
it's funny how certain products work for different babies. Balmex doesn't touch my daughter's redness. I can let her air dry, and coat her with it and it doesn't do much of anything. Boudreaux's Butt Paste works wonders on her! After one diaper change. I guess you just have to keep trying until you find what works for your baby.
The only think that really works for my son is Boudreaus butt paste, I love it! My sons skin is sensative but not as bad as your sons skin. Im glad you found something that works! For us, my son only gets diaper rash from cloth diapers when they need a stripping.. and the only detergent that works good enough is the Rockin green.
@Crystal110987 same here. Boudreaux's Butt Paste works much better than Balmex or other creams for my daughter. And we've tried most of the one's on the market. It's depends on the baby.
I use Desitin maximum strength and my daughter has the same problem with constant redness on her bottom from disposable diapers and this one works great. When looking for a diaper rash cream you want to find one with the highest possible zinc oxide %. As this is the active ingredient. The average cream only has about 10-15%. Desitin has 40% and i think the Balmex you speak of is also 40% although i don't often see it in Canada.
I'm glad you found one that works! It can be so frustrating trying find a good product. Does he still have the issue in cloth diapers? An amazing ointment that is cloth diaper safe is Earth Mama Angel Baby Bottom Balm! I'm telling you, it's crazy awesome stuff and you can use it for all kinds of stuff. It is expensive, but a little goes a really long way. I still have the same tiny jar I bought 2 years ago for my first baby!
@JasonAndCass Thankfully the redness went away as soon as we switched to cloth. However I really want a cloth safe cream just in case :) Thank you for the recommendation I'll write down :)
I have not found a cloth diaper friendly cream that works as good as balmex in fact most of them do not work at all... But I just bought CJs butter and if you put it on thick it works ok :)
@HeavensAngel1121 They come in tubes and jars :) We rarely had diaper rash but the redness was all the time! Its not fun having sensitive skin let alone seeing your baby have it too :(
I use bum bum balm with my cloth diapers and it has the same awesome effect. put it on when my babe gets red and in a couple of hrs it's better. Great review. :)
@Melody061684 We tried it but not sure if it was the extra strength. I just know that this worked and its the only thing that has worked for my cousin and her son too.
Try coconut oil (unrefined pure coconut oil), it's amazing stuff that heals the skin and is really great for thrush/yeast on the bottom, or nipples.
Amazing stuff.
