  • I was wondering if I was missing out on something when I 'settled' for the less expensive Audix D6. I am happy to find that isn't the case at all. The D6 sounds warmer and rounder than the Beta52. Thanks for posting!

  • What a nice intro & outro. Nice stereo Effects!

Btw. I like the Audix :D

  • what are the eq settings for the beta 52 does anybody know for sure

  • @Band515 I did the same EQing for both on this video

  • @Band515

I showed it on the other video that I have about processing the kick drum.

Also it all depends on the nature of the music and the size of your bass drum or KICK drum as I like to call it.

subscribe and send me a message and I'll give you the tricks of the trade.

I made this and other videos to help friends and subscribers that have asked for help.

    cheers

  • i absolutely love the D6..i have the beta 52 an akg D112 as well....but for my recording I find myself always reaching for the d6 (tejano music).

Hey Giro I ended up getting the Audix DP7....i cant really say I enjoy the tom mics other than live....but i love the condensers and of course D6...thanks for the recommendation buddy! Now....I need to acquire some 421's....

Also Im almost have enough for the panasonic hmc 150!! gonna need some serious help from ya cuz im a Noob to vid =/

  • I think that the beta52 works much better Live, than in Studio, it give a lot of attack, and lots of gain.

  • @gitarnerd The D6 has more attack.. "more slap". THe B52a works fine here in the studio. Its just a matter of the music you are producing.

D6 is pre-EQd. Awesome for Metal, Pop, Fusion, etc.. B52a has a perfect tone for Rock, Jazz, etc ,,

  • I've always had this thing with how when people demo mics: They do "with eq, and without eq." But isn't EQing all relative to the mix? you could record the same drum with the same mic, same placement, same tuning, and have it be in two different mixes and have two totally different EQ settings, so isn't it kind of arbitrary to have a "with" and "without" eq demo?

  • @Buhzie15 So there should be no demos at all because we don't have the same drums nor the same tuning, nor the same room... :) hehe.. Same if I tell you what pos I have the overheads..

SO! I find it arbitrary to complain because people always ask for an A/B demo. Just like people ask for A/B demos of pre amps, the audio source will never be the same, mics, etc. yet people want a reference of what it could be.

    Your welcome!!!

  • @girotube I'm not complaining, I'm just saying how it's kind of arbitrary to say, "With EQ." Also because I don't know what the eq settings are.

  • @Buhzie15

And I'm not posting the settings hehehe!!! But with practice you can replicate this EQ..

This is more of an ear thing..

I'm getting bombarded with 20" of snow :(

    Winter is here...!

  • @girotube LOL

  • hey man dig the sound!! whats your mic placement on that d6 man? ive got a d6 as well and looking for a very similar sound!!

  • @tfcdan08

The mic is pass the port hole using a kick mic stand.

The very end of the mic, where the cable is attached is even with the port hole. This set up moves a lot of air around the mic. You can move in more.

The master video sounds much better. For some reason the compression by YT ads some annoying artifacts to the audio.. I will try other formats so that YT doesn't re-compress with some cheap format..

  • i love the sound of the D6. Although the Shure cuts a bit better through the mix.

i wish you had the D112 in this video too.

  • @WirSindRocker

I have an other video with all 3

  • The D6 is the "easiest" to get a good sound from... especially for beginers.

I prefer an SM7... harder to get right, and you have to tune the drum more, but the end result is better if you put in the time and energy.

  • @freedom0speech

The funny thing is that I have a video showcasing the SM57 as a kick mic.. Check it out..

  • @girotube

I was talking about the SM7 (the large broadcast mic), not the SM57. But I'd like to check that out... what's the name of the video? I couldn't find it.

My 3 favorite kick mics are the SM7, RE-20, and RE-27. They require more work (drum tuning and fine-placement), plus they handle EQ much better. Other mics like the D6 and Beta 52a don't EQ well at all, but they sound good enough quickly thrown in the kick without much thought, which is good for quick live gigs.

  • @freedom0speech

Yep I see that I miss read that... SM7! Looks like I need glasses

But look into my videos.. The Hulk SM57

  • beta 52 sounds like someone put a towel over it... (no eq)

  • I love shures but D6 is better than B52 in this test

  • d6 is deep and high pitched, b52 is full of warmth and hits u in the chest: should have both and choose the proper mix according to the song

  • I love the D6

  • I like the scooped sound of the D6. I own one and love it.

  • I used the AUDIX and it is amazing! I was recording some stuff where I needed lots of depth and sustain..had no choice but to put this under my 14" tom..and it sounds MONSTROUS! Love how it turned out!

  • i think the AUDIX one has a little more top end to it

but the shure deff takes the win with more punch

  • The Shure wins.

  • You should try a Beyer M88
