For the first second, I thought I had clicked a stripper video by accident! : }
Anyhow, that is a seriously nice quality build, man- have you tried lining the walls with more cans filled with water or maybe a stone block outer wall? I'm currently trying to use a candle to slowly warm a brick box myself, and it needs some refining. Well, thanks for the upload, I've enjoyed it!
I had an ammo box years ago, wish I had saved it because this idea never crossed my mind, however, now that I seen your vid, I'm going to get another one and make a stove out of it like you did. This is a awesome idea, Thanks for the upload, it sure beats simular stoves that cost a small fortune!!!
get a woman to give you an empty wood spool that most thread comes on and slip over that handle to keep from burning your hand when you open it. Really nice stove, can you burn it indoors?
those stoves can reach up to and over 700 - 750F or 371 - 399C useing the old 20mm ammo cans can be a good idea but you must be shure to check if it's lead paint and if it is all of the paint must be removed and for the black paint a good BBQ paint is rated for 1200F or 649C and leving 1/4" lip on the bottom for the door is recomended also the 1/4" can be filed with sand to help prolong the life of your new comping stove and be sure to make the smok stack tall enoughf for the somke to draw up
@2000jago hey I just thought I would respond to your question I had seen on a youtube video about what type of rope they are using around the ammo can door. I looked into it and they use seals from inhome stoves with glass and you can purchase a rope or a tape type and it's a high temp fiberglass rope the rope needs adhesive spread then you put it on and the tape has the adhesive already on it. you can buy all types of different sizes and lengths. hope this helps.
That's the best-looking ammo can stove I've seen on youtube- I'd love to see a little tutorial on how you put it together, what materials you used, etc.
That's a thing of beauty, great workmanship! Looks like it's totally airtight too as it the fire pretty much went out when you closed the vent then there was a mini backdraft as you opened it and it got some more oxygen. What ammo box is this?
awesum:)

What's the "seal" around the door made of, and how long before it melts away or falls off?
2000jago 8 months ago
@2000jago It is probably fiberglass rope. It's what they use in commercial stoves to seal the door, and it should last for a long long time.

@2000jago I'm pretty sure its fibreglass ;) So it won't melt at all I think.

@THEPILLADDICT Thanks for the info. You wouldn't happen to have a brand name of this kind of seal would you? Sounds like just what I'm looking for.

Dang, I wish I could just "throw together," something that nice. You should sell those.

Very nice, are you willing to sell it?

Do you know what temperature the stove gets to while burning. And does the paint burn off after the first burn?.

that thing is indeed damn nice. I kept my ammo can simple as I could but I wish we had some more custom stuff to use

A damper would control the heat output, and increase burn times. It really helped on my stove to have one. Very nice stove!

FOR ALL THE TIME YOU GOT INVESTED IN THIS STOVE IT PROBABLY WOULD OF BEEN EASIER TO BUY ONE
