  • Man this gotta be real music if anything is that.

  • omg, the piano is playing by itself at 2:48 O.o

  • Comment removed

  • @mikedrawls41

    That's Billy Hinche

  • I am moved to see Brian's joy and his enthusiasm in this clip. He's so lively because he had recently undergone treatment... but unfortunately he's also on his way to a relapse. As the story goes, he will in the end, get the treatment he needs and will make even more and more happy, beautiful and inspiring music! I am so into In The Key Of Disney right now! Mahalo for this post -3

  • @jabbbadahutt. You better respect brian wilson. Even hes a cocaine addict but he shared something to make some people happy. But you, what you share? Nothing but totally garbage just like your comment. all the songs of brian wilson and beachboys is really give sense to me.

  • This is wonderful song!!!!! brian wilson is one of the person who shared a lot of beatiful songs in music world i like bw watching at2:42 his acting like a teddy bear. Much respect to brian wilson.

  • Looks like Brian missed a spot while wiping the cocaine off of his beard.

  • @jabbbadahutt HOW DARE YOU DISRESPECT BRIAN WILSON. I'm sorry to shout, but that man is a legend, and to mock his drug problem is to insult his music and character. I can't believe you would say something like that about a legend, he turned away from drugs and made some beautiful music after that point so PLEASE remove this comment if you are a human being thank you.

  • @pastorsrule Brian Wilson was a cocaine addict and a traitor! Take him away!

  • @jabbbadahutt Your just a Twat Pal. Just trying to get people to bite at your stupid comments hid behind a screen. Seriously when you have gave to the world just an iota that BW and The Beach Boys have gave us, then feel free to walk with greatness, till then just sit quietly behind your screen being a NOBODY!!

  • Dennis' eyes say it all at 0:40 - it's all about love!! And how cute is Al around 1:24?!! Also, very great to see Brian smile here! :)

  • Brian Wilson, hes vey happy , me too.

  • I love this song so much

  • I don't have words for how awesome this clip is!

  • The greatest-ever over-actor of all time, Mike Love, looks so damned silly in that dumb Guru Swami style turban ... bouqets to BW & the rest of the boys however .. this is from Lorne Michaels' 1976 TV Special ...

  • Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys took us to church on every song.

  • Yes, I read that too, but I.m sure he loved Carl & Brian. They went through so much in their childhood together. In a YouTube clip, he (Dennis) ran up during a concert, and kissed Brian on the top of his head, it was so sweet, and who didn't love Carl?

  • Great song here.I really think their albums have been badly produced since the middle of the 70's. And it ruined nice songs like this one. They have put too much electronic thing (for instance on ' I 'll bet he's nice' ).

That acustic sound is always nicer.

  • Better version of a song that I really dislike from one of a pair of albums (Love You being the other) that I generally loathe. Brian looks real unbathed and rough here, like he might have a heart attack if he gets too hyped up. He was only like 34 here but looks about 44 (today he's about 68 but looks maybe 80). But he definitely was more lucid and with it here. He had a few phases of up and down, and the worst down period came around '78-80 and I don't think he ever recovered.

  • Amazing!

  • DW is so soul at 2:09 and CW just takes over in the latter part of the chorus, fulfilling his role as the group's performance-perfectionist-genius. And lest we forget BW, who's so upbeat here! Thanks Bri for creating the happiest music I've heard. And thanks Den for your sheer musical brilliance.

  • Eventhough Brian sounds horribly out of tune at certain times, when he's enjoying himself, everyone is enjoying themselves.

A truly wonderful piece of music and video. If only the whole special could be shown

  • MAN!!! this was my fav song when i was about 7!! I am now 15 and i still love it :D :D :D

  • Singing with the beach boys looks so epic

  • I know I KNOW it took us a long while to go TO GO to go TO GO and find us a rock style ~

  • Comment removed

  • Al's head grew larger it looks like

  • @maxti6

    just those BBBs.

    beach boys beards.

  • The pianist has fingers a mile long :=)

  • How great this is to see Brian so happy and obviously relaxed that he was dancing a bit. Also to see all the BB's together. This is one magnificent video, thank you so much for posting it. I love them all but Brian is so special. Have added this to my Favourites.

  • GREAT ! AWESOME ! MAGNIFICENT ! Didn't even know that this song existed. I have shivers running up and down my spine. So blessed that Dennis, Carl and Brian were still alive and together. LOVED EVERY SECOND OF THIS SONG !

  • BTW, if this is live music who's playing the piano when the black piano player went up to dance / try to steal the limelight from the BB's?

  • @jundiwa - that was the style playing back then. A lot of musicians would record live, and then record their video's live as well. We're watching and listening to separate live performances.

  • Wow, their look then would really be in style now heh, they'd fit in, you'd hardly notice they went into the future

  • How Dennis manages to still look like the coolest man in the world during this is truely amazing.

  • Brian is really enjoying this!!!

  • @jammmon yeah, it´s a great thing to watch...:-) love it

  • was this pre 'River Song'? Wonder if it gave Dennis the idea for the gospel choir?

  • @hwright3766 Yes, it was... I think.

  • @hwright3766

Dennis and Carl wrote River song in 1974, when the backing track was also recorded. dunno bout the choir however.

  • Has the piano player been tested for heroin/coke yet? lol great performance i love it.

  • @delboy8000 lol

no man its passion for playing da piano and directing choirs

  • Comment removed

  • @delboy8000 haha

  • I love how happy and proud Brian is at 2:43. Such a great feeling

  • Brian....Al.....Mike....god bless em all

  • we love 'em together like this.

  • One of my fave BB vids ever

  • Very interesting to see the Beach Boys in CHURCH !!!! but glad to see the religious side of them ! Love this video ! Tim , 6-26-10

  • @musicman5709 Brian and Mike first started singing together at the Presbyterian church in Hawthorne.

  • You've lost your camel Mike!! Lmao

  • 2:43 SMiLE!

  • one of the best songs of the beach boys i think! well i love harmony! and gospel is just great! this should be cut to SISTER ACT 1 or 2!!! :D

  • I don't know who got Mike ready, but they AND their guide dog should be sacked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mike, you look as if you're in drag, Honey!! NOT a good look!

  • @Helen25243 is he suppose to look like miss cleo? or aunt jamima?

  • The way Dennis looked into Carl's eyes at mark 40, looks as if he really loved his baby brother. Take a look!

  • @Helen25243 wonderful isn't it

  • @Helen25243 I'm sure DW loved his bros, but I read a quote in a recent bio where he said if they weren't in a band together, he'd probably never speak to them, but fell in love with him through their music.

  • Ah, happy Brian.

  • Rockin in Church! Love it. See Billy Hinsche in the choir? Brian looks so happy here. Rare to see him smile like that.

  • Comment removed

  • Al Jardine at 1:25

  • OK, I'm a little spooked here; at 2:47 the pianist/choir director stands up and directs the choir, but the piano is playing in the background by itself...

  • @VdGGfan .... I take it you thought this was a 'live' preformance. No it was not.

  • utter madness

  • I wish I could've been in that Gospel choir on that day. So awesome to see Brian and the rest of the BB doing this song :)

  • I still love this song, its even better than the album version!

  • Sounds like a thankfully forgotten show tune.

  • @Amocabana

    What a stupid comment

  • Wow, a smile from Brian at 2:43

Is it okay to smile? I sometimes wonder. Oh wow I just have a revelation. I wonder if the 'Smile' album had anything to do with how rare it seems to be to find the Wilson brothers smiling?

  • oh thats not right!!!! you should watch the beach boys videos her more carefully!!!=)

  • This is from the 1976 NBC TV special aka The Dr, Pepper Special

"The Beach Boys ...It's OK " First show I ever taped on my then new SONY Betamax !!

    John Hunter Phillips

  • Why the hell is Mike Love wearing a Trubin?

  • Because he's bald

  • So emotionally enjoyable, especially if you keep in mind the times.

And *caraphyllis," that's who and what Mike Love was back then. One of the nicest humans around, then and now.

Thank you for sharing this, and I sure wish I could see this done TODAY (but we'd need to bring back the dead). If only there really were a heaven, because "Wouldn't It Be Nice?" to see them all together again?

  • 1976 was a very cool year, id give a limb for a time machine

  • This is SO good. Let those old farts that fail to understand my criticism of the Seekers check THIS out. Of course the line about "the rock style" is a bit lame but the togetherness of it all is magnificent. Thanks for putting it up.

  • wow! I remember this song...but don't remember this video. Again, the versatility of the BBs. Very cool music.

  • 8/76...remember this on ABC!!!

  • Hey Veronica, what did you do over the weekend?

Well Therese, I sang with this group of loggers and this one turban guy who kept doing jazz hands. And this one guy looked especially creepy, wanting to sing a song about a Sloopy John Bee.

  • Wasn't this part of the TV special where Brain is "arrested" for not surfing?

  • Is that Billy Hinsche making a cameo in choir robes at 1:49?

  • sure is.

  • I have a DVD that include this song, didn't know it was on Youtube !

  • what´s the dvd called?

  • Havent been able to stop watching this since I found it, thanks!

  • yeah, this is some rare footage of Brian around his comeback period when he was still quite young and before his worst times in the late 70's early 80's, of course followed by the permanent damage caused to him by the psycho-tropic drugs that Landy gave him.

He is fantastic in this video, and so is everyone else who is present. Naturally, I would imagine that Brian wrote and arranged this, but I'm not sure.

  • Where the hell did you find this?! God bless YouTube and you guys for uploading - many thanks.

  • man, what year is this from. Brian in the pre-landy days could still sing, but he obviously lost his falsetto from the drugs and cigarettes, and general unhealthy lifestyle. he seems really confident here and you can tell he really gets into it!

  • hah awesome. I'm a big Wilson fan, but don't they look like the bee gees here??

  • yeah, but way cuter

(except for Mike Love with that doodad on his head)

  • Wow just wow

  • Wow! Brian really had it going on!!!

  • awesome!!!

  • great clip...by the way who is playing piano in the end when the gospel conductor gets up from the piano??? pure gospel magic????

  • divine intervention, man :P

  • I'm french, I'm 37, and I know all the songs in this album "15 big ones" by heart since 1979. It was a old all orange cassette, which I had been stolen in 1993 ! So it's the first time since then (ie 16 years till then!) I'm listening to those wonderfull and unforgettable songs ! Brian Wilson is a genius !! You can't imagine at what point I'm gratefull to all of you who posted it there on youtube ! THANKS A LOT !

  • I swear the Beach Boys were freakin' crazy... This completely owns the 15 big ones version - why didn't they release it? Thanks!

  • Brian really warms up and gets into it as it goes along, the man is just soooo huggable lol!

  • Billy Hinsche in the choir is pretty damn funny. Hilarious actually. I love this version - should be released (on CD that is). Brian's really into it.

  • I like this version, i have it on the Good Vibrations Tour DVD, i think this is as good as [if not better than] the album version, i like the piano on this one, the guy playing it is good

  • Wow... this version is 100 times better than the album version. The album's production is just kind of goofy. I really like how stripped down and earthy this version is; it's MUCH better.

  • Brian is wonderful. I still wish we had Dennis and Carl, because they were great too. Love ya Bri.

  • i know, better than that big ego mike-good for nothing except endless law suits against his family

  • You said it. I agree with that video on here "Fuck You Mike Love". Check it out

  • This was in the TV special in the seventies - a great 60 minute show, if any of you remember it.

  • Fantastic! Agree they should have released this version on '15 big ones'

Love the way Brian is rockin at the end, really getting into the power of the choir!

  • brian wilson is the best, is rare to see all beach boys singing together

  • Is that Billy Hinsche in the front row of the choir????

    Sure looks like him!

  • I'm pretty sure you're correct about it being Billy Hinsche. I'll send him a message and ask him if it is and get back here within a few days/weeks.

  • Good eye!

That is Billy Hinsche. At that time he was Carl's brother-in-law. You probaby knew that already.

  • yeah I did know, but thanks for the update.

It's been a good year, what with Dennis' POB re-release - album of the year for me

  • God Bless Carl @ Dennis, Love you Brian & Al

  • My Carl was so awesome, and Denny was great and Brian -- well -- just awesome -- Al was so sweet -- noticed you left out the lovester hee hee

  • God bless the beach boys. This is another fine example of their greatness. Thank you very much for it.

  • Heartwarming. Love you, Beach Boys.

  • caraphyllis -- the bros and even Al looked so great -- but why was My Carl wearing a mechanics oufit heeeeeee heeeeeeeeeee I do have a special affection and adoration for Brian -- and this is another vid that really shows it for some reason.

  • Rocking--a precursor of the "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" scene in U2's RATTLE & HUM. (Oh, and nice turban, Mike!)

  • I said the same thing re the lovester -- should have stuck w/turban -- cowboy hats, etc. just weren't the best look heeeeeeeeee heeeeeeee Why do you think this was a precursor to that U2 song??????????? I actually had this fabulous office at Yale and U2 were practicing for a concert across the street so I opened my windows and it was GREAT!

  • love to see the bros all singing together! And, of course, Al!

  • That's my dad at 1:48, Beach Boys forever!!!

  • Is your dad Billy Hinsche?!

  • No, I was just kidding, that would be real neat though. :D

  • Sure would :)

  • damn! didn't get to see it :(

been wanting to see this for years

  • ncarolinaluv -- I believe that the Beach Boys -- at least, the Wilsons (and ergo probably Mike) were/are Presbyterian.

  • This video's a good example of Brian's condition in 1976-1977, he's reluctant at the beginning but slowly he lets his shoulders back and starts enjoying himself. By late 1976-1977, he was producing some great music (for the Love You album) and truly was back...but it didn't last long at all...

  • Thanks so much for posting this clip - it's great!

I remember it being part of an August, 1976 Beach Boys special on NBC-TV!

The group was riding high on its resurgence from 1974 to 1976 and NBC featured them on a great special! It marked, in my opinion, the climax of their amazing resurgence!

Thanks again, what great memories! Thanks so much! Beach Boys forever!

  • that's right !! was called "The Beach Boys ... It's OK " The first thing I ever recorded off of TV on my new BETAMAX !!;-)

  • I was really diggin' this video until I realized ten years earlier Brian was on TV playing Surf's Up...

  • Incredible! Wonderfull video! Thanks.

  • This is great! I loved it!! :)

  • Brian and the Beach Boys could have revolutionized the Christian Church music scene ... Their music still gives glory to God!

    Phil

    {Rare Beach Boys Video Channel - ClickBB45s}

  • this video especially proves to me that without carl, even if Brian, Al, and maybe David came back with Mike and Bruce, there's no way to really get that sound without Carl's voice.

  • I wondered about the piano!! Thought I was goning crazy!!

    Love this version

  • what religion were the Beach Boys??? post to ncarolinluv -- thanks!

  • this version of the song can be found on the beach boys:good vibrations tour DVD

  • This is a gem! Wish they showed this at the Kennedy Center. What a groovin' blast. And Billy

Hinsche in the choir! Bravo! Brian looked so great and healthy with Dennis and Carl alongside him.

  • In my own humble opinion, I think THIS is the version of "That Same Song" that should've ended up on '15 Big Ones'. I always heard this version (with the choir) on this documentary VHS years ago. (American Band) I had no clue until just recently when I reluctantly heard "15 B.O." for the first time that it was such a shit-ass production compared to this. Another interesting thing to take note of is (and what is AMAZING for this time period) how much Brian is really digging the song there.

  • PS....and *I* really dig the pianists' ideas musically...some of the bass lines he's throwing in are awesome!

  • fuck off

  • it's very cool but whose playing the piano at the end when he gets up?

  • i like it so much!

  • Wow I never knew that a live performance of this song existed on video, totally just made my day. Thanks 4 posting=)

  • This is from the DVD "Good Vibrations Tour".

  • brilliant clip, love it!

  • Awesome video!

  • what a fantastic band at that time, there one of the best bands ever, and this video rocks!!!!!

  • oh, and I think that's Billy Hinsche in the predominately black choir, lol!

  • You're right! I never noticed that..
