Just wondering why some of the question sentences end in ma(5), but others do not use it. Some of these (like "ni ne" and "zai na li / where") are still asked as questions but don't use ma. In what context do you use, or not use, ma?
my buddy gave me this link.. and he was right.. if anyone uses these lines on a girl, they WILL NOT get laid. they might make a 'hello when you pass them on the street' acquaintance, but nothin else. just use english, especially if your at lan kuai feng (i dont know pinyins), asian girls love the english
Thanks for the lessons Benny! I'm an Australian living in China and these lessons are very useful. I do study Chinese here but it's good to have some variety. Thanks mate!
Hi Cloudy You may say "nǐ kě yǐ zuò wǒ de péng yǒu ma?" or "nǐ yǒu shí jiān de huà, wǒ men kě yǐ yī qǐ chū qù wán ma?" You can also say: jīn tiān nǐ yǒu kòng ma? = Do you have any free time today? xie xie means "thanks" where as xie xie ni means "thanks you" or thank you ;)
mandarin language is the same with simplified chinese right? but its different with traditional chinese (e.g in taiwan)? or only the letter is different, but the same pronounciation?
cool, thanks a lot benny.. that mean i can learn from your website..i've just come to Taiwan to study, and before i came here i don't know about that, that why i made a mistake, i brought chinese simplified dictionary not traditional one (make me confused when i use it here!) because in my country (yinni), chinese trad is not so common..
do you think 2 years is enough to learn chinese? any suggestion? 'cause i never learn chinese before..xie xie ni..
Please, what is the difference between 'ni2' and 'ni3'. Because at the end of the lesson I registered that you use 'Ní' and in other sentences 'Ni3'. Do they both mean word 'YOU'.
How do you recognize pronunciation of 'q' from 'ch' and 'j' and 'zh'? These 4 pinyin letters sound sometimes very similar. In my opinion even Chinese people have to be sometimes confused what was said or they have more processors in the brain to deal with multiple meaning

Symbols.....Benny do you know how i can write chinese symbols with a western keyboard?
beginmaster 3 years ago
Hi, I think you need to first download a software which allows you to type Characters.
askbenny 3 years ago
1. Click Start then Go to Control Panel
2. Click on Language Options then Click Language and Regional Options
3. Click Languages Then Click Details
4. Click Add then Select Chinese PRC and Chinese (Simplified)- Microsoft Pinyin IME 3.0
5. Click the Language Bar and Select the all of the boxes.
6. Click Apply & OK for everything
keithis1337 3 years ago
7. see A colored box with the letters EN, and a box with a question mark
8. Click EN & change it to CH
9. Make sure box says CH, has a little chinese character next (a box split by a line)to it and a cresent moon
10. If it doesnt look like that, go back to the language bar & un-check then re-check all the boxes .
11. See the crescent moon? Click on it and change it into full moon
12. go to Microsoft Word.
13. Type in pinyin, for example, zhong wen(click enter or space after zhong).

Please, what is the difference between 'ni2' and 'ni3'. Because at the end of the lesson I registered that you use 'Ní' and in other sentences 'Ni3'. Do they both mean word 'YOU'.
xgalba00 4 years ago
They both mean "you".
The difference only happen when ni3 is followed by a word which is also third tone.
It is only a rule of pronounciation. When the two words both are third tone, the first one become second tone! The meaning is still the same!
