I just realized that Lady Penelope must have been modeled on Barbara Bain. Yes, I know she was in Space: 1999, and not in this show; however, you must notice the remarkable resemblance.
And the best part about Lady Penelope is when a toy company came out with Tiffany Taylor dolls that looked just like Lady P, so that 11-13 yr-old boys could sneak their sister's dolls out when everyone had left the house and proceed to mastur--- um, yeah, um.... oops, I've said too much already. No, no, what dolls? No, never happened. Not me anyway.
Team America, World Police, 1964 style! All we need in Jane Fonda instead of Michael Moore in the 2004 version. (Oops Jane Fonda's still around.) I'm in my 20's this stuff is great! You people who watched this as kids were lucky! All my contemporaries had is the PC crap like Captain Planet. My 4 and 5 year olds love this.
My Mom Favorite show....we can't Missed a show....beautiful show, nobody can made a noise with we watching this show,Back to 70's at Tegucigalpa,Honduras...Nice Memories with My Dad and Mom and Brothers....lol.
but i personally thought 'The Hood' character was a waste of space and he wasn't needed at all really. The episodes were exciting enough without trying to 'spice' them up with silly spy plot lines, although James Bond WAS a new, popular film phenomenon at the time and i guess anything that helps to 'sell the show'. I also noticed that colour is spelt the American way 'color' in the titles (videcolor), not something that i noticed as a child :-)
Actually, it was Gerry Anderson who didn't like John Tracy's head that much and rather than be more central to the stories ended up with his Dad doing the ordering about or supplying information.
I guess I wasn't the only person that thought that the one with the moustache at 0:28 looked like Burt Reynolds. Cartoons like these were great fun back then before computer generated special effects took over. LOL!
@imcustomized These are the observations that I love about youtube that I missed first time around. Like was Lady Penelope smoking Virginia Slims extra length cigarettes since it seemed as if she never had to light up?
i've heard that FAB actually stood for "we can do what the Fuck we want because we're American and live on a cool island...Bitch". don't know whether its true or not.
My guess is that the rest of them didn't like John very much, so they built him a house in space so they wouldn't have to see him. poor guy thinks hes doing some good up there
@drummersam1 Gerry Anderson himself has said that John was the Thunderbird he liked least which is why he was sent to Thunderbird 5. He said he was very disapointed with teh way he looked, while voice actor Ray Barrett asked if he could be John's voice becuae he loved everything about him!
Im 13 years old and i watched thunderbirds when i was 1 to when i was 6, i didnt like the movie they made, there were no puppets :( i still have all the toys that my dad past down to me, some are very valuble (£££) my nan is just like lady penelopy XD i love this intro!!! @barthoedemaker they really are. cartoons todays on tv are just crappy shit.

Question. "Why do the large-scale explosions look less convincing than the stringed puppets and Paper Mache sets?" jus thought i'd through that out there.
Gerry and Sylvia Anderson were really ahead of their time in terms of a show that marketed toys-- For god's sake, the show literally STARRED toys! And frankly, this did it much better than He-Man, GI Joe and all those other 80s cartoons.
How can you dislike thunderbirds I mean come on its puppets and rockets and also it was around for the sixties and its the old shows that have stood the test of time not like the modern stuff. BTW I'm 20 my dad got me into these shows and I think theyy are brilliant
@wrathbarter86 Once I noticed that no one ever WALKED anywhere-- Everything was an elaborate system of moving furniture-- I could not UN-notice it. It was like the adventures of a band of paraplegics.
At the risk of sounding like a forty- something old fart, I cannot believe that kids today can get such thrill out of current TV progs. I have two children. It was just so exciting watching these as a kid. ( though I thought Capt. Scarlet was cooler)
I managed to get all the Gerry and Sylvia Anderson's annimated series on A nd E dot com. I am 47 and these shows bring back so many memories as a kid. My daughters watch them all regularly with me ...2nd generation!! You can also find Space 1999 and my favorite U.F.O Happy Holidays!!
They should adopt that theme tune as the English National Anthem (including the 5,4,3,2,1, "Thunderbirds are go" and the explosions at the end) - they'd all be standing.
Wait a second...1:15 seconds of video and no huge explosion? That isn't like Gerry Anderson at all, I mean, Stingray has one within the first few sec-*BOOM*
@ParlyCharly Didn't you hear? How do you think they got out? The THUNDERBIRDS came to the rescue! and out-classed the local emergency response force so much so that they were left saying "WoooooooooooooW".
Despite being born in the 90's, my dad showed me this show when I was a kid and I truly enjoyed and loved it. This show proves that some great art is truly timeless. It has possibly the greatest intro out of any program, especially the theme tune.

children's tv today does not even come close to being called entertaining when compared to the magic of shows like this. Great theme tune too, Barry Gray and his orchestra made some stirring theme tunes. and this along with the Gary Miller Stingray themes were the best of the lot. I always preferred the end credits version of this theme tune, as it has that fantastic string section in the background. Epic stuff, TV magic that will never be surpassed, nor equalled IMO - great upload!
