  • Are the N64 and Majora's Mask cart required for miniature painting?

  • @Maphysto Yes.

  • N64 FTW!

  • I think you should definitely start painting again. You have a wonderful attention to detail, and the patience for it. You should most certainly thin your paints with water and use a primer prior to painting. reaper makes a decent brush-on primer, and would help the durability of your models. (BTW: a 1:1 paint water mixture is good for a start...) All you need to get painting is a flat surface, a light, paints, and probably a bit of paper to catch spills. KEEP PAINTING!

  • Cute girly painter with MAJORAS MASK!!!!! OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG :D

  • omg zelda lolz

  • thanks for the info, i see alot of tutorials that go over with primer, is that necessary?

  • do you have a nintendo64? :D

    you are very good

  • what kindof figure is that?

  • C'est clair, une voix de fou !

    J'adore.

    It is so pretty !

  • why are there so few female painters lol? i have a vice for my models but it gets in my way lol so i have now found that sticking a model to a tin of paint works really well, good vid enjoyed

  • You need to prime your figures before you paint them. Primer sticks to metal / plastic. Paint sticks to primer.

I guess if this works for you. So be it.

If you are new to painting miniatures, you may want to look at other approaches to painting before you invest a lot of time and effort.

  • What paint is used? :)

  • Hi any reconmended paint for a alien blood effect?

  • It's been a while since you've done this video, so I'm wondering if you've started to use primer more often. Anything new about primer that you didn't mention at the end there?

  • @pshalleck nah, i really haven't painted a figure in a looong time. just no room to work.

  • would you be interested in selling that N64?

  • cool! thx!

  • holy shit a n64 haven't seen one of thoes in many years

  • nice N64 majoros mask is an awsome game

  • OMG YOU HAVE A NINTENDO 64 !!!! THAT IS AWESOME !!!

  • totally off topic but you sound cute =D, thanks for sharing your techniques i just got into miniatures so i am looking up a bunch on painting. i sketch, and draw but painting i am new to. =/ by the way i lol'ed when you were like "llarrghh" during your "glob of paint" advice. very good advice , and thanks again in advanced.

  • Nice Zelda Majoras mask in N64 :D

I find reaper miniatures are great, but i prefer the citadel paints, but reaper miniatures are great for D&D. Btw nice informative vid. Unfortunately for us brits we have to import the reaper miniatures.

  • haha you sound like the little mouse out of spacejam

  • can i pay you to paint my models? :P

  • ZELDA!!!!!

  • FIERCE DIETY FTW!!

  • u paint minis, play video games, love zelda 64; u are every guys dream girl. cool vid

  • Nice Vid. I Also like The N64 Majora's Mask gold collectors Cartridge

  • That's Majora's mask behind the paints! That game is awsome!!!

  • paint slave!! *cracks whip* Lol

  • Excellent video, but maybe help if u paint first with black or white spray, but the important is that u enjoy your figure, good job!!!!!

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOW an nintendo 64 O.O

  • Soooooo sexy voice :P

  • primer comes in black and white and really helps, you dont have to spray it heavy. Also when your done, put on a top coat, that way the paint wont rub off:)

  • I have to admit that your painting is really good. Where do you get the reaper miniatures you were talking about?

  • I got mine from a now-defunct comic book store...if you don't have any kind of hobby stores in your area, you could probably find some online.

  • Wow this is over 3 years old and still getting comments.

  • lol where did you get that vise thing i need one of those lol it anoying holding your minature while painting

  • I have noo idea heh, they have more fancy ones though. You can probably find one online.

  • @apdaoud from a store like mitre 10..lol or bunnings, basically any shop that sells tools, its a very basic tool btw so im sure you'l find it anywere

  • "keep it up".You will get better whit time try using drybrushing , blending , blacklining it will make your mini look perfect. And you dont need to fix mini on samting to paint them try puting your minis on base and paint then from there you can move them around more like that. Cya Good job

  • Very nice video!

Priming might be neglected as long as you give the figure a good bath in warm, soapy water and rinse the figure off really well before paint application.

  • Great guide, I guess I'm going to the hobby store friday... Thanks for the tips.

  • Hmmm, i dunno about primers. . . . . if u use it it make ur figure thik with paint and blak or white, if u dont its easier to paint the figure but the paint gets owned anyways. . .

  • cool video. great fer beginners. keep it up ^_^

  • i cant tell the diffence when you use a primer, ive never really had the need for it either exept on metal models, cause youll neeed more coats if ur not gunna spray paint em

  • ok, i do the same shit. yours is better so i hate you now! just kidding, 4 real, nice work

  • ha, the video description is the best part about the video.

Did a good job. I like the background of the video with the games =] and the drakengard 2 game, that was one of my favs growing up.

Thanks for spending time to make this.

one question tho. The base of this model, did you add those snakes yourself, or did they come on the base?

  • It was just part of the base, heh. If I was gonna add parts, I'd make a whole diorama << (which would be awesome, but I have no room)

  • Good video. I need to get a...um...one of those holdy things. Sorry couldnt resist. You can kick me for the sarcam. Good video though.

  • nice to see another girl painting miniaturs :)

  • for painting metal models do you have to prime them with spraypaint??? plz reply

  • Spraypaint? Um...no...there's primer that you can apply if you want to, but I usually don't...

  • Hi Kailey,

Thank you for this tutorial. Tips are very, very helpful. But why do you make the angry heated tirade at us and the Good Lord on your info box on the above right? Just keep cool and ignore the people that make negative comments. You know what you're doing and your work speaks well for itself. Outstanding work.........A+

  • Because I get at loeast three comments a day telling me I'm stupid for not using primer and I get very tired of it :D

  • I've painted miniatures for 30 years and rarely use primer. I've not personally found that using primer makes the finish much better or more robust (my stuff was for wargaming). A coat of varnish was just as good for that. It's always a matter of personal taste anyway, so no one is stupid or right or wrong for the way they choose to paint. Keep it up and don't let fools and their childish comments get you down!

  • primer is good if you dont use varnish.

  • :) the second miniature (girl) is cancer :D, I just bought that one since it's my sign... nice video! :D

  • It's called a vice

  • she corrected herself like 3 seconds after you commented im sure. She says, vice....

  • hopefully you get back into painting ! :p i stopped for like 5 years.. and now ive picked up the brush and am getting back into it :p gl!

  • Hi!

If you don't want to use primer, you may want to wash the figure in soapy water first and paint the cleaned figure. I'd also suggest to spray a layer of clear matt varnish on the finished figure so the paint won't wear off.

  • majoras mask!!!!!!

  • nice voice ;p

  • sorry, but what does priming even do? does it really matter or what? and yes I am a noob, so it would help if one of you responded. thanks

  • Theoretically you need to prime before you paint so that the paint holds onto the figure better. But I've had figures that were primed and that weren't primed, and they seemed to deteriorate at about the same rate, so I think it's an urban myth.

  • use a black base cote

  • You should end the video with a pic of you smiling so we can see your face!

  • Awesome, Thanks for posting!!!!!!!

  • OMG YOU DID NOT USE PRIMERZ!!!1

  • Metal is solid!!! wowo i didnt know that...

  • every metal guy i do the paint starts chipping unless it just the gw paint

  • use flat varnish on it to protect the paint. Matte varnish if you prefer.

  • You have a great voice. :)

  • MAJORAS MASK!!!!!!! :O

    Win

  • Nice nintendo! :-)

  • very good set up! i am already doing better work thanks to your tips and other tips on you tube. my girl left me becouse she couldnt handle me painting figures. go figure lol

  • i think ur very sexy, ur voice is so sexyyyyy xxx

  • Ummm thanks I think o.-

  • i hate reper loli love gw paint oh and i wouldent use the smallest brush for all because i dont know about reper but if you dont watter down them they get really thick

  • Thanks, very informitive.

  • you should post more painted minis

  • Don't have the time or space to paint anymore :p

  • noooooooooooooo!!!!!

  • metal models must die soory it just that now metal models form games workshop are very expensive. Yes i know that the fact that it is heavier appeals to some but the paint always ends up chipping off the model eventually. But over all nice vid

  • Um o.- I don't consider them too expensive, heh. And I mean, you get what you pay for. I don't buy massive amounts of figures, just ones I like the shape of and want to paint. I don't know what it's like for people who actually play games with them and need to buy many models..

  • Um not really, don't have time or an area to paint them in, heh. I dunno, I have one other called 'the most boring painting video in de woild' but it's not really a tutorial heh.

  • I'm guessing this won't work on 1/100 scale Figurines :(

  • lol nintendo and im a lezbian

  • LOL info! Good job.

  • Still painting? or moved away from the hobby?

  • Ah...not so much anymore, but because I don't have the colors I'd like to use, heh.

  • you have a lovely voice

  • NINTENDO 64 + ZELDA FTW!!!!

  • sexy voice.

  • do u have to paint them?

  • you dont have to but they look so much better if you do

  • From experience, i've learned u can use regular acrylic craft paints - thinned with WATER - and they will do an excellent job on the mini! Plus, they are a lot less expensive too, for those who are on a budget.

Note: if you're worried about smearing the paint job, wear latex gloves; your hands won't get messed-up.

    Something to think about...

  • i have been painting for years i like 1/72 size soilders and warhammer models with 1/72 i never put a undercoat but with warhammer i do your painting is good do you paint 1/72 models

  • I need some help with pewter miniatures.

How can I remove that "fine powder" the comes all over the miniature ?

  • I have no idea, sorry, heh. I don't know what fine powder you mean, I've never had that o.-

  • Hi !

It´s a fine powder that covers all the miniatures, due to the producing process. I remove this powder with a knife before using the primer, to obtain a better result.

But it´s boring. I want to remove it "chemichally", not "mechanicaly".

  • ah, I dunno...maybe google it heh, sorry. No idea.

  • Use an Exacto knife to cut off the hanging bits and then wash the miniature with soap, water, and a toothbrush.

  • soak the miniature in warm water when you get it out of its pack

  • that fine powder is called "bloom", and it can be removed with a soft tooth brush. Anything harder, and u run the risk of damaging the detail on the miniature.

    Something to think about...

  • OMG U NEED PRIMER! -- Trys not to laugh

  • I've been looking for painting videos here in YouTube, as I'd like to give it a try soon. This looks an interesting one, congrats to the author. Too bad about the swearing and constant ranting about the "primer issue", that's really a shame. You should resist responding to the provocations.

  • i love majora's mask:P

  • yeeeeeaaaaaaaayyyy mayoras mask...

  • I'm just getting back into Warhammer and I needed some tips, this vid is great for casual players/painters. I paint instead of play mostly. Using that clamp on a figure is a great idea! Good vid. =)

  • Pretty basic and good. I, would paint a different way, but its great for a beginner, good tips I mean.

  • yeah, I make no claims about being an expert :p

  • do you need the nintendo 64???

  • "need" as in would I die without it? Uh, considering I don't even know where I have it anymore, odds are, no I don't need it :p Or if you're complaining about it being in the video, well, so sorry I don't have the space to stow everything away but what's integral to the video...

Or, finally, if you're asking because you want me to give it to you or something, sorry not going to happen, but I'm sure you can buy one cheap on ebay :p

  • i ve just started painting figurines....this hobby rocks! i already have the balrog and 24 archers of middle earth(lotr) (OMG I LOVE U ! U HAVE A NITENDO 64!)

  • Always mount your figure on a suitable base before painting. This avoids any chance of touching the finished paint ( when dry ) and transfering skin oils to the work. Another plus is that it gives you something to hold onto while you work that is not as big or as clumsy as the clamp you show.

To pick up more ideas covering this art form go to planet figure for a start. Keep up the work.

  • w00t u need primer :P lol

  • ok i can not paint.... can u get miniatures allrady painted

  • uh I think so, but not well-painted. maybe you could hire someone to paint them for you :p

  • ok thanks but one more thing if u go to a games workshop can u get someone to paint it for u?

  • I have no idea, sorry. Call them and ask?

  • got it

  • Woo nintendo 64 in the back

  • Nice work

Ive read ur wall of text, that u aint painting anymore sadly.

Well, if you would change your mind, if you would HAPPEN to have some miniature from Warhammer 40k (preferly black templar, sister of battle, or something like that) painted at home, or maybe something that u might consider paint, tell me plz I wanna see it! xD

    cheers

  • correct! there is not much need for a black base colour, it just makes shading easier!

  • N64 with zelda! do you still have that? and is that Drakengard 2 adjacent to the PS2 controller?

I have not the patience to paint little figures, but I do have patience to be days figuring out a puzzle. I guess it depends on your interests. Was there not a game you played with these figures? Oh yeah, warhammer 40,000 some friends and me wanted to start a campaign but we never did. I should contact him. *contacts him*

  • hey anyone who thinks she sucks, PISS OFF

  • Hey Cleo great video, i have a problem, i want to paint miniatures but i live in a smokey/smoggy enviroment from neighburs house wood fires from inside their houses and smog that comes from there cars coming and going alot that comes into my into my house, if i'm letting my miniature dry overight how do i get rid of the smoke/smog of it and does it matter if i do get some on it when it's drying?

  • I...have no idea, but I would assume it doesn't make that much of a difference o.- but I'd be more concerned for your health, jeez!

  • I don't, I use the lid, as I said. I don't like to use a palette because the paint dabs dry before I get to use them again, since I don't paint super fast.

  • same when use the lid too

  • read the description pleeease.

  • It's refreshing to hear from a woman who is interested in minatures and painting.

  • why you dont use base color? .. imho than you can colour metal or plastic miniatures.. paint will hold still on it.

  • That suck i can do better bictch also there 3 pimers red white and black.

  • bictch? Wow, can't you even be bothered to spell your insults right? :p mroon.

  • M8....NEVER and i mean NEVER paint a metal miniature without some basecoat. There are sprey cans for this job that make the paint stay on the model and not slip away plus the color of the spray gives a better outcome (black spray makes the model darker and white is good for brighter colors) and there are other colors too. But the most important thing about the basecoating is that your metal miniature will NOT last long without it. The paint will just.. slip away. I hope this helps.. good luck :)

  • Ahh... The Nintendo 64...

  • great job

  • great vid thanks for sharing your a fine artist 5/5

  • heh thanks

  • Great vid, stumbled across this earlier today.

  • You got the best videogame of history.. ZELDA

    majora's mask really?

I viced a lot to that game

  • uh yeah :p is that such a big deal? UI love all the zeldas

  • Heh I was gonna comment on the N64 until you mentioned it in your video. you're right about using the lid though. That's a big mistake almost everyone seams to make is globbing their paint. But what kind of miniatures are you painting? have you ever took a stab at Warhammer 40k miniatures?

  • yeah, I think :p I dunno I just like painting fantasy figures :p

  • N64 + Zelda <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

  • Very nice done, you explained everything well and left no questions.

By the way, I never painted a figure without priming it. Black, most of the time, my miniatures are dark guys. x)

I also thin all my paints everytime I use them. I use Citadel paint, and they need some water in order to do a clean job and not mess around with them.

Maybe it's not necessary with Reaper paint, I have no idea.

    And I like your voice.

    Very pleasant and melodious.

  • thank you :p

  • A nice informative video. Cheers.

  • I just bought some warhammer miniatures with some Citadel paint, but I have a question, do you use the paint just like that? or do you mix it with water or something before you put it on the miniature?

  • uhm no I think that would make it too thin, but you do want to mix up the jar :p my friend puts marbles in the container and shakes it to mix it up first, or you can stir it up with the plastic end of a brush...:p

  • so you just use it without mixing it with anything?

  • yes...is that weird? :-p

  • not that I know, I was just wondering. :) Thx btw.

  • Nice work. I have the same fig. Shad, Mercenaries Rogue. By Werner Klocke I think.Hope you get some more paints and keep painting.

  • What's the game next to the ps2? You've got a cool house there. ^.^ The figurines and games and such.

  • hah snot a house, just a condo, and it really stinks :p

  • its awsome that people make there own miniatures but i personly suck at painting and im fine just buying my miniatures for 1 buck each

  • I don't make miniatures o.- they're too tiny, hehe

  • well then how do u get blank ones?

  • blank one? you mean unpainted ones? i buy them o.o

  • hell yea majoras mask !!!!

  • I really liked this video :). I own no warhammer miniatures but I'm seriously thinking of getting some. You did a good job and I kinda like your voice. Greetings from Sweden! (I fucking love Zelda)

  • thanks, yes, zelda rules xD

  • i just like people doin there own stuff not tryin to copy someone else good work my friend i like what your doin

  • thank you :p

  • AAAAAAARGH! what about the first hand of black?

  • I noticed you're too fucking lazy to read the description :D

  • wow nice job!

  • wow a nice comment, that's rare :p

  • i give her props for having a zelda game in the back ground. :)

  • i agree lol :D

  • Primer; It also comes in black.

If you water your paints down a little and instead of 1 big coat, use 4 or 5 smaller ones. that way you wont lose any detail on the model.

btw. good vid, nice basics explanation. Maybe next one about highlighting?

  • What kind of miniature is that? 5/5 it really helped me, I paint lotr warhammer, im starting a High Elf army, i dont see many girls painting, Good job, (i dont feel safe with men that are like 50 when im only 13)

  • I'm not even sure, it was some elf-ish guy, warhammer apparently :p

  • LMAO.

  • Do you know where to get the individuel minitures for D&D, all I see are the miniture games sets.

  • I dunno, just look in hobby stores, or online

  • what i like my guys looking globy they look weathered

  • ahaha
