  • uh...this was on here under a different name and i left a comment now where is it.

  • this segment was elsewhere on here and i left a comment, now cant find the comment or the video...but this doesnt seem to be reality...because the majority of my friends dont go to college, they work a trader joes get married have 2 daughters...and join the marines and then get out of the service...ect...

  • THIS WHOLE SCENE IS BULLSHIT REGULAR PEOPLE DONT GO TO COLLEGE THEY GO TO TRADE SCHOOL AND GET A JOB ONE GUY JOINED THE MARINED, WORKS AT TRADER JOES AND HAS A WIFE AND 2 KIDS SO REGULAR PEOPLE MEANS NO COLLEGE NO PROBLEM AND I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA!!!

  • THIS IS THE DUMBEST SCENE YOU HAVE EVER SEEN IN YOUR LIFE. I saw this elsewhere on here, youtube, and left a comment BULLSHIT!!! the majority of people I knew graduated high school, went to a trade school, got married, had a kid, bought a house NO PROBLEM NO COLLEGE!!! as a matter of fact ONE GUY GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL, joined the marines, got out, got married, has 2 daughters, WORKS FOR TRADER JOES, NO COLLEGE NO TRADE SCHOOL NO PROBLEM AND THIS IS CALIFORNIA. the scene is just parent propaganda

  • @Wikipunani that was from the next sitcom COSBY which was good also...

  • What if he doesn't get a girlfriend?!?

  • Favorite scene ever.

  • Thats the only Episode you ever heard Clff say Damn

  • At 0:14 that is the only time ive heard them curse in the cosby show... i think they may have wrote it out after this... just didint sound right

  • @BFFFL16 I know and I remember when I saw the pilot for the first time and I never picked it up.

  • Amen!!!!

  • Cliff Huxtable says: "Because see the government comes for the regular people first."

Isn't that how the GOP wants it today?

  • This really gives me chocolate cake

  • Who exactly are the 12 people who disliked this video? It's the cleverest and most sublime 4 1/2 minutes of economics we're likely to see on television.

  • @andreblake2

I can tell you, they're don't know what real t.v. is.

  • @honeegrrl No they do not, @honeegrrl. I come from another era, I guess. I can tell you, if my own Dad came to me like Cliff Huxtable did, I would be 2,000 percent better off than I am now. All any of us needs is someone who cares more about us than we care for ourselves. AB

  • @andreblake2 Yes that's true, I'm glad my parents cared, boy did they cared. I remember I tried to pull something like on my parents, I told him I wasn't going to college. And all they said was okay that's fine, so when do you register for college, lol.

  • @honeegrrl That's pretty much Old School, @honeegrrl. The goal of any parent is (a) send kid(s) to college, and (b) make sure kid(s) don't go to jail. Education is the one thing that no one can EVER take from you. They can repo your car, your boat, your private jet, your McMansion. They one thing they can NEVER take away from you is your KNOWLEDGE. AB

  • One of my favortie Cosby Show moments ever."Theo that's the dumbest thing I ever heard in my life...no wonder you get D's in everything" Bill Cosby took an emotional moment and turned it into comedic genius

  • I linked this to my Facebook with the blurb "Bill Cosby provides a lesson in economics (albeit unadjusted for inflation.)"

  • It's actually...'Theo. That's the DUMBEST thing I've ever heard! No wonder you get D's in school!'

    And that was from memory...J/S

  • @scubarodriguez He only said that to attempt to make cliff feel sorry for him, and it didn't work, lol. I told my parents I wasn't going to college and tried that crap with my parents and all they said was uh huh, when is registration? LOL!

  • It's actually...'Theo. That's the DUMBEST thing I've ever heard! No wonder you get D's in school!'

  • "I brought you in this world, and I'll take you out."

How many of our parents have said that before?

  • @JustinBlottin Yesssir! LMAO My sister and I have def gotten that line before!

  • @JustinBlottin (Raising my hand) my parents have my younger sister and I many times when were kids.

  • "You see, because the government comes for the regular people first."

  • this video is hilarious

  • There IS a problem: you havn't EATEN YET!!!!!

  • 3:44 best line in the whole series

  • "An apartment in Manhattan will run you at least $400 a month." HAH, not anymore!!!

  • after the applaus when cliff says thats dumbest thing i've ever herd

  • In the Big Apple rent control

  • thats what alan needs to tell jake on two and a half men i brought you into this world and ill take you out lol!

  • Comment removed

  • Cliff: "Because see the government comes for the regular people first."

And it isn't that far from the truth.

  • @honeegrrl It is extremely far from the truth. No taxes, free food, free medical care, free retirement. Regular people have no idea how spoiled they are.

  • @sleepeeg3 Well where in the hell are those regular people because I know regular people who are NOT getting free food, who pay taxes, and and in order to get the retirement you have to pay into it so where are these regular people you're referring to?

  • @sleepeeg3 Again please tell me where can I find, no taxes free good, free medical care, and free retirement? Because I'm regular people and I work and I have to pay for all that.

  • @honeegrrl True. My girlfriend says that's the truth and she's an accountant.

  • @pytko3 Yeah this sounds a lot like today and the government is still coming after the regular people first, thanks to the GOP (Greed Over People)

  • @pytko3 My co worker has a wealthy brother and he writes off some of the most ridiculous things.

  • "I brought you into this world, and I can take you out"--- Sounds like one of those immortal sayings like, "the die is cast"

  • I don't know what episode this was, but Rudi was talking on the phone to one of her friends, and she was getting off the phone, and she told her friend (before she hung up) "Peace Out" After she hung up the phone and walked away, her parents looked & one another & said "Peace Out"? "I thought peace was in" I think Cliff said "Word" or "Word Up" That scene was funny. If anyone knows/remembers what episode that was can U let me know? Thanks:)

  • bill: THAT IS THE DUMBEST THING I HAVE EVER HEARD, NO WONDER YOU GET D'S IN SCHOOL. now thats a real father..telling him how it is in the real world. thats why this is a great, inspiring, funny, and loving show ;D

  • @lala78outgoing Yeah no "gold star" for trying he gets a Father that says "look around because this is your cell till you get good grades!" :-) We need shows like this!!!

  • "The government comes for the 'regular' people first."

  • thanksgiven day, tha sandman, pregnant man and this, 4 of the best episodes......i love the cosby show!!

  • @tatojunco I agree 100%

  • What Cliff is showing Theo is all true, having a so-called regular job is just BARELY mananging for just YOURSELF. If Theo plans on getting married and having kids, he can not support a family on a regular person's salary.

  • Theo: You're a doctor and mom's lawyer. You're both successful and everything and that's great, but maybe I was born to be a regular person and have a regular life. If you weren't a doctor, I wouldn't love you less because you're my dad. So instead of acting disappointed because I'm not like you, maybe you can just accept me and love me anyway, because I'm your son.

Theo, do you know who gives those kind of speeches? People who don't want to try!

  • This is me and my mother, oh man. lol

  • guess he was right about taking your kids out of this world

  • @ScottieMcChill YEAH.... Marvin Gaye's Dad did it (sad thing is, he got away with it too)

R I P Marvyn Gaye You made GREAT music)

  • Um lol. Deosn't he already have clothes and shoes? What was the point of that statement? ;-D

  • @TheSnowyice He is only like 14 or 15 in this episode, so he still has some growing to do.

  • god do i remember this episode by heart haha. when i was little and i was suppose to be sleeping in bed, i used to sneakily turn my tv on around midnight when tv land used to play the cosby show and just watch every episode through out my entire childhood basically. i love this show

  • Dads, you rock! Happy Father's Day! =)

  • This was and still is one of my favorite "Cosby" episodes. We need more television like this instead of the so-called "reality" shows we have now.

  • @nascar88gyrl WE SURE DO, I CAN'T STAND Reality shows (I must admit, I DO watch American Idol, America's Next Top Model, America's Got Talent, and Snapped (Oxygen)

  • This is one of my favorite scenes from the Cosby show.

  • Speaking of successes in the black community like the Cosby Show, it's a sad week in the black community. This week is an ending to a legendary, illustrious entertainment: The Oprah Winfrey Show is ending this week. :*(

  • @Tonetare If the world lasts long enough, Oprah Winfrey will go down in history books as the greatest American hero and a prophet to boot (non-leather boot). She took on the mad cow cattle industry all by her lonesome and told the world the truth -- (send in the mad cows; don't bother, they're here). My heroes have always been black cowgirls, like Oprah.

  • @redfordforpresident haha very much agreed

  • "Theo, that is the *dumbest* thing I've ever heard in my life... it's no wonder you get D's in everything!"

    Gotta love it :)

  • If all of America got the point of this video, we wouldn't be in the economic mess we're currently in. People live way beyond their means.

  • Greatest scene ever... absolutely hilarious! :D

  • My economics teacher showed my class this clip

  • i wish ny was the same price...i'd go back after college

  • Probably one of the best pilot shows of all time! This scene wins.

  • What about the pudding?! He didn't factor in the pudding!!!

  • tvjukebox[dot]net for this theme and more high quality tv themes

  • I guess 11 people get D's in everything lol

  • I love this show.

    I love this show.

    (I know I said it twice) :P

  • lol hes a good dad.

  • he didnt factor in bge. lol

  • LMAO

  • I love the pilot episode. That scene is the greatest.

  • 4:17

    ???

  • 4:16

  • 4:15

  • This is one of funniest scenes in the history of television.

"You're gonna do it because I SAID SO! I am your father! I brought you in this world, and I'll take you OUT."

  • Very wise and funny show. Definitely learned alot and had fun watching this growing up.

  • Helmet: $50/month

    Bologna and Cereal: free

    Girlfriend: $200/month

  • @Siyko Living in a sitcom where these things don't matter, Priceless.

  • 10 people are insane......

  • 2:45 LMAO so true

  • It's really smart that they chose to use this scene in the pilot episode because fro the run of the show they tried so hard to top this scene which is just is not possible to do in my opinion.

  • The part when he said he needs a car, he forgot to mention about car insurance.

  • This is the first time I've seen this clip. When his son was rambling about being his son is good enough, I was like, "gimme a break". I was afraid it was going to turn into a Full House moment. But when Bill Cosby fired back, I almost fell out of my chair laughing. Definitely not a full house moment.

  • @123rockfan Agreed.

  • I like how the audience applauds after Theos big "accept me for me" speech. Who applauds a kid for trying to convice his father he doesent have to try in school?

  • Every teenager should watch this, this show was so ahead of it's time, this and the Fresh Prince Of Bel Air.

  • If I recall right it turns out that Theo DID have a problem that got him the bad grades. If I'm not wrong turns out he had Dyslexia

  • Just showed this to my son. We both had a good laugh but he got the point. Rarely can a TV show be used for real life lessons.

  • Love it. Cliff punched a hole in that Hallmark "why can't you just accept me?" speech. You're free to fail once you move out :)

  • one of the best shows ever on tv, I could watch Cos for hours , so many great episodes...love trhe family and watching these kids grow up was such a pleasure.

  • I don't think he'd want to live in the kind of apartment that would cost him 400/month in NYC.

  • Actually, hes going to be in debt. A girlfriend will run him about $300 a year. Plus.

  • @emeraldrafael a month

  • @Azimon

    XD You're right.

  • @emeraldrafael $300 dolars a month. Really? That's sad. Once I get a boyfriend, he'll appreciate the fact that I'm low matinence and self-sufficient.

  • @bscfan1

XD you're quite funny. Every girl says that. I had three gf that where low matinence. you know whwat happened/ as soon as i took them on a date and bought them their first thing, they bled me for money. Give it time.

  • @emeraldrafael

No, I'm serious, I hate asking people for things, and I'm the kind of girl content with curlng up on the couch and watching a movie with a big bowl of popcorn, preferably with an arm around me.

  • What wrong with a regular black show with with two rich parents. All black people arent low class.im african american and have two wealthy, educated parents!

  • @milancheyenne

You missed an IS in that first sentence there Theo.

  • One of THE BEST moments in TV History!!!! I LMAO when I was young and I still LMAO today and forever!! That's how you do a show.

  • Its Crazy To See A Black Educated Family

  • @KarAniel1990 i know, we're like a dying breed!

    ...are u kidding me?

  • @KarAniel1990 Says the person that has to capitalize every word in their sentence.

  • "Theo...thats the DUMBEST thing Ive heard in my life, no wonder u get Ds in everything , now u are afraid to try because u think ur brain is going to explode, & its gonna ooze out of u ear, u are gonna try as hard as u can, why? because I said so, I am ur father, I brought u in this world, & Ill take u outt" LMAOOOO!

  • I hate that show, cliff & clare r so arrogant. family matters was a much better example of a middle class black family except 4 urkel.

  • @Railfan705 i don't that they were suppose to be portraying a middle class family. They had a higher socioeconomic status. That is what made the show refreshing, it showed that black people could too have great successful careers. But family matters was a great show also

  • LMAOOOOOO OMG I LOVEEEEE BILL COSBY HE IS SO GREAT XDDDDDDDD

  • One of my favorite episodes I used this on my son when he was 13 lmao...he got it lol

  • 3:40 I love how that kid stares off into the distance like he is an epic philospher or somethin and then bill cosby was like "fuck you" XD

  • @uiluj13 lol.

  • @uiluj13 If more people were like Crosby, maybe more people wouldn't buy into this "anything, everything" goes with how kids are raised. Our age is one of not speaking up when kids make dumb decisions.

  • @jazzguitar2010 im 17 and i admit i make my share of dumb decisions. but with children there should be a moderation in dicipline because at my age or younger, we're very impressionable. my cousin for example has REALLY strict parents, and now if you give him a mean look, he would apoligize for things he didn't do wrong. i'm not saying that we should let children and teenagers do whatever the fuck they want, but i mean to give them room for them to realize they made a mistake at their own pace.

  • @uiluj13 I agree with you 100%. I think it's a balance, in that parents have to provide guidance, but not overpower their kids with their own ideals and wishes for them. Parents have to call a spade a spade though. With Cosby above, a lot of parents would buy into their kids BS when he started to spout off with this freedom love me for who I am stuff. But Cosby saw through it, and challenged him on it, and knew that Theo was using it as an excuse, instead of a valid reason for slacking.

  • @jazzguitar2010 I don't know. I think more people should aspire to be like Stills and Nash.

  • why in the hell is everyone on here talking about karma biting him in the ass...he loved his son. what happen to him was bad. dr cosby did not bring anything on himself...this is the best shw of my generation....just so happens my favorite episode of all time as well.

  • @MrNiggyPants I know you hate seeing a successful black family in one of the best television shows of all time. Well, get used to it. It's reality!!!!

  • @MrNiggyPants LOL!!! Because of afirmative action? My family lives like that in reality, the Obamas and PLENTY of black families are successful not because of afirmative action, because they work hard and get good educations. You are aware that the Obamas went to Harvard, right??? People like yourself amaze me. Your a coward. You use offensive language but would never have the audacity to step to someone and say what you type. What a waste of life you are....

  • @MrNiggyPants I sit where I want on the bus.

  • @MrNiggyPants---hey jackass---I am a white person and love this damn show.......how about you take your bigotted ass and get off the bus. DUMBASS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @8thwonder0608 Ooh pardon the typos!

    * They live in a nicer neighborhood THAN you.

    Ok.

  • @UEastSideR What the hell are you talking about?

  • @8thwonder0608 oops I clicked the wrong comment to reply to!

  • @MrNiggyPants LOL! Well I can vouch. 5th generation college in my (Black) family to earn a college degree. Even my great grandparents earned Master's ... and the one who didn't owned his own business. Clearly this had nothing to do with affirmative action because this was back before it existed. You probably don't know any Black families like this because they live in a nicer neighborhood then you.

I actually laughed aloud at this though. You're not offending anyone.

  • @UEastSideR agreed. this show was incredible for the negro.

  • @MrNiggyPants racist much? you big dummy

  • @MrNiggyPants mine jackass my dads a lawyer and my mom works for the government. Obviously you must not come from a well off family or you wouldn't purposefully look up videos about black people in order to vent your misguided anger. Get off welfare and for your information a nigger is an uneducated person, you white nigger.

  • i loved this show i wish it was still on i drove past his but i ddont no if he moved out or not i wish my mom let me knock on his door ;(

  • Absolutely classic! One of the all time best sceens ever aired on TV. Modern TV shows have NOTHING on the Cosby Show!

  • I still love this episode, it reminds me of me telling my parents I wasn't going to college but I'm glad I wend :-)

  • they should show these cosby show 24/7 in all prisons and public schools.

  • I love this episode

  • LOL @ the crowd doing the classic poignant moment clap...then Cliff says "that's the dumbest thing I've heard in my life." LOL!!

  • Smartest skit.

  • Cosby: "Are you planning to have a Girlfriend" Theo: "YEAH"

Yanks rest of the money HAHA #LOL

  • OHHHH DR. Huxtable what are we going to do with you!!!!!!!!!

  • I remember this episode so well. I was 24 years old and I had been out of the Army for 3 years. Times were rough in the early 80's and I had lived with my Parents since I had gotten out of the service. I procured a job for - yes $300 dollars a week. My friends went nuts - that was so much money at the time. My apartment was $200 dollars a month! I bought a car and paid $125 a month.

I got married 6 years later and was making $65,000 a year. I'm divorced and living back home on $300 per month.

  • @bangitslo What happened? How did you go from making $65,000 a year to $3,600 a year and living with your parents, despite your divorce?

  • @8thwonder0608 Married a woman who already had young children. Took them as my own. Then we had 2 of our own. Bought a house and made everyone happy. Worked 2 jobs for 5 years. She left me, sued me for child support. Lost my home, was laid off from my job. Couldn't pay the required support was thrown in jail for a year. Got out of jail, couldn't find a job not even McDonald's. Found a part time job. Company went out of business. Jailed again for non-support. Homeless, Mom took me in.

  • @bangitslo Wow!! I feel so bad for you man. Thank goodness for you mom. I truly hope things get better for you. You'll land on your feet again man. Keep your head up...

  • @8thwonder0608 Hey man Thanks! I'm not looking for sympathy, but I appreciate your kind words. Usually people will call you a bum or whatever. Not used to hearing kind words. I was always a working man. Been working since I was 7 years old. Never stole anything or took anything I didn't work for. Probably been a little too frivolous giving my money to people, but that's the way I was taught. I'm on the internet at this moment applying for jobs. Hope something comes through. Once again thanks!

  • "Theo...... *pause* thats the dumbest thing ive ever heard in my life! now wonder you get D's!!" lmao aha

  • He said Damn right ROFL !!!

  • I'm just 20 years old and THE COSBY SHOW is one of my favorite shows in the world...seems like I could always find a solution to my problems whenever I watch it. I wish I had half to bill's sarcastic moments wen someone said somethin stupid rotfl! Theo.... that has to be the dumbest thing I ever heard!!! Lmao That man was everybody's dream father

  • "you plan to have a girlfriend?"

    "for sure!"

    *takes remaining money* ROTFLOL

  • Theo: "So no prblem."

Cliff: "There is a problem, YOU HAVEN'T EATEN YET!"

  • Lol "I brought you into this world, and I can take you out."

  • I'm not the biggest Cosby show fan, but this scene has always stuck with me through the years. Amazing writing!

  • 100 dollars a month for clothing and shoes? in 1984? sounds like a lot.

  • I can't say how much I love this!

  • whats better this or family matters
