I think you're missing the future of computing. Google is spearheading an initiative to allow web pages (apps) to access your graphics card. I think all future computing will be web apps and this way of not-proprietizing the OS or Browser would be the best avenue for the Visual Python concept you speak of.
It is my belief that the software development idea is good for BEGINNERS ONLY. The problem we are facing today as developers, is that everything is automated. Sure it is great for productivity, but not great for learning software development.
@tedcleggett I agree... to a point. I personally miss the good old days (I'm looking at you 1980's!). Where real computer hobbyists still existed, and cut their teeth on a good old fashioned command line and a dev language with limited features. But there's also a great place for something... different.
@BryanLunduke Bryan, it's not that I think it's a bad idea, I'm just looking at the long term effect on developers. I kind of see it like everyone leaving a Linux platform for MAC or WINDOWS and then complaining why they have virus or how come they cannot get connected to a network. It would be better if the learn the foundations of how a system works instead of JUST thinking about productivity.
@BryanLunduke However, you are correct in that I'm from an older generation. As you can see, I TYPE my words not TEXT them. But todays kids can't even write a proper paper...go figure?
sagadiablo, i was just trying to post a comment but it - Error, try again. so I wasn't directly replying to your comment, I was just asking a ? to the action show men.
My sister and I had goats when we were kids to eat the weeds in the backyard. The backyard was big and on a hill so thats why we had them. Only problem was they would keep getting out of the fence and running away...
That development platform sounds pretty cool. As far as open-sourcing it goes, I'd be quite hopeful that some open-source business would want to work with you on taking it further which could provide a way for you to make money from this.
@sharperguy That would be ideal! I would love to see this be 100% Open Source and available to everyone. I truly believe this is a big freaking deal. That said... I've got some ideas on licensing that I hope will allow me to fund the development while still moving in that direction.
Until a company like Canonical actually becomes a paid for desktop OS product, it will always be half baked for average end users.
Open Source is ok BUT, you will never get a serious quality product for free...

open source != free product :)
everything depends on particular company dealing with open source :)

@jeffanthonyfds One of many! Illumination has no inherent limitation on language, framework or platform.
