Society has gone crazy and is often scared shitless, drunk and disorderly. That's for sure.
"Hate groups" exist all over the globe. Here in Greece, we have the "Golden Dawn" (Χρυσή Αυγή), a nationalistic neo-Nazi organisation which pledges to remove all illegal immigrants and useless foreigners from Greece.
Of course, there are more violent racist movements in Russia. "The White Wolves", for instance. These guys kill anyone who isn't a white Russian and has "commited crimes against that race".

I've just noticed something. If you look at the 4 main characters around 15:32 they seem to be in the shape of the Manji Symbol. How very Buddhist. The symbology works pretty well here since it marks an auspicious object or moment and having these 4 Badasses working together seems pretty auspicious to me.
