this is just my opinion but i think point sparring is the worst what ever happened to the traditional way of sparring atleast that simmulated real battle today martial arts has taken a turn for the worst just my opinion

USSD is kind of like the lowest of the low to which American Kempo (and TMAs in the US in general) has sunk. For instance, at their point sparring tournaments (which at their best are arguably useless) they wear a ton of protective gear yet still "control" their punches and kicks, which there is no reason for in point sparring, and which defeats the point of protective gear. They need to go the way the karate guys who started kickboxing did in the 60s and actually start hitting each other.

That's what I thought until I sparred some guys at an MMA gym I was checking out. Point sparring and the overemphasis USSD puts on "control" gave me a whole slew of bad habits which can actually make you worse at fighting. The main thing is I was too used to not putting power into my punches and I threw a lot of useless strikes which the rest of my body was not behind.
For those who do not know USSD competitions are 3 points and you win. Only a few of the USSD people have any real stimina for open matches.
Most of the current USSD students are still deluted in believing that the more you train the better the program, odds are a great deal of suckers still sign up for 2 more more private lessons.
By watching the responces of USSD students here I see that the school has gone down hill fast after grand master Demasco.

I trained with charlee mattera as well and he can't kick or remember anything! The guy only knows Martial arts bad business practices. He hires felons to run his schools with no background checks. All his Masters Richard Black Hans, Kris E all have criminal records.
Ussd only got to where there at because mattera screwed over everyone GM Villari, GM Cerio, and then last year GM Demasco couldn't take his bullshit anymore and left. At Demasco's you can own your dojo.

I don't think ussd or charles mattera will be allowed back at the shaolin temple. Demasco was the first master at the shaolin temple 1997. Mattera only went with him in 2000 and mattera never studdied with any kung fu masters. The monks all referred to demasco as the headmaster. look how fat mattera is and how in shape demasco is. Which one works out and which one eats pizza all day and lives off his instructors sweat.
