  • Well done. Nice sounding pipes. Good control. This must be the third video I have watched where the setting of the tune is different. Have you tried doing the finger sweep near the end? Really fun movement to do :)

  • This guy.... IS BAD-ASS.

  • People can arrange any tune like they want to...... Well played SvenskPiper...... :-)

  • As a new 58 year old piper, I really appreciate the tunes you've posted. Mason's apron is a bit past my skill set at this point, but I am working on "Wife of the Old MIll Dust." Thanks for doing such a great job on that tune too.

  • Dang.. Nice piping man! Cool song too

  • Best sounding instrument in the world and very well played mate...Well done :) 10 million thumbs up as far as i'm concerned

  • Amazing and beautiful.

  • yeah go irish I am whole Irish not joking

  • Flashbacks! Mason's Apron was always one of my favs to play.

  • Cool and clear Bagpipe when it is best !! Thank you !

  • I just got my first bagpipes (at age 41!) I've been a drummer for most of my life but have always been in love with the bagpipes!!! your video's are simply great!

  • Great playing and great sound. I like it.

  • A mate of mine who is learning to play the bagpipes now, pointed this flick out to me. I sit here, flabbergasted and in utter awe after seeing this amazing performance. WHAT a great piece of sound....

  • W00t w00t...amazing job. If you like this tune you shoulkd look up "Flatfoot 56 - Brotherhood" they put an entire band along with the bagpipe tune

  • Wow... this is probably the most difficult tune I have ever tried to learn... and this guy rapes it. Amazingly well done.

  • when ther's a piper as good as this on youtube it really takes the piss that he's got two random dislikes off big headed dickheads. also alot of bands play how they think the tune sounds good not always strictly too the music. pull yur bass drones from up yur arse's and repect him for keeping our traditions alive :))

  • Rock solid time and a nice arrangement. You got your own style too. Great piping.

  • brill stuff lad keep her lit on them pipes like your own we touch that's what the pipes are all about.

  • very nice piping !!

  • cool tan lines!! haha

  • Hi I just want to say excellent interpretation of this tune. very enjoyable to listen to. one piece of advice though. When u make a mistake try not to show it by the expression on your face. If u did that in competition then the judges would totally annihilate u. other than that well played. hope to hear more of you in the future

  • well i thought it ripped it up ! great work , i could die defending my family listening to you play .....

    Lets MArch on ENGLAND !!!!!

  • awesome !!!

  • @SvenskPiper your a insperation to alot of us who

wish to play as good as you

someday. May I as what tuterals would you recomend, or have been your favorite? looking for advanced exersizes that you have learned from. Thanks for posting. & is your skill at an

    open level? Kind Regards.

  • I kind of really like your sound in these videos!

  • I kind of really like your sound in these videos!

  • How may I obtain the exact

same copy of The Masons apron that you play. Bad ass!

May I have a copy, or what

book can be found that is exactly the same? Thank you!

  • I thought it was well done. Everyone is a critic......yet, we are our own worst critic. As a piper, we critique ourselves worse than any comments here. Cant we just enjoy each others well accomplished projects? Well done lad.....

  • great vid,

funny to see moving your body with Masons apron. And of course the last reaction, with the eyes. I looks like that you're saying : 'Nice, it could better, could worse'

  • Great playing but I thought it was a Nads Hair to quick if you get where im coing from :O) very nice all the same.

Is this Sweeden??? looks very sunny and warm? I was on Exercise there once and it was F***ing Baltic.

  • Isn't to bad? I thought he was awesome.Every time I hear the bagpipes I get goosebumps and a chill up my spine. My last wish is to be buried while a lone piper playes "Amazing Grace"

  • Although it takes an Ulsterman to play the bagpipes, this guy isn't too bad! :-)

  • From Canada: Hoots Mon!

  • that was filthy, like in the good way

  • I love how Ian hits the bag and tunes the middle tenor drone...and stomps his foot, the way a pipe major would, and just kicks ass....you don't see that alot in these yourtube videos, and Ian, it REALLY helps a beginning piper ....you are awesome, and your piping is just brilliant....chris

  • Brilliant Piping....thanks for this from a beginning piper!!!!

  • menudo artista ya me gustaria a mi aprender esa canción

  • I love this tune, it is one of my favourites! Beautifully played. Thank you for the upload :)

  • truly amazing!

  • very nice, well done! nice rythm. good tone! I like the flow. Good luck to you.

  • can somebody send me music for this tune? or a link?

  • look at it by Viperpiper bagpipetunes!

  • i love bagpipes, but they sound even better when they're together with snare drums and stuff

  • im new to playing pipes and i am inspired by this guy, well done dude, very well played

  • Oh I see, you made a mistake at 1:23 but you incorperated it into the the tune. That's what the pros do, nice work :)

  • people should stop giving this comment a thumbs-down so much... i gave it a thumbs-up... i'll have to see what he is talking about, apparently at one minute and twenty three seconds.. however, even though he alerts everyone to my alleged mistake, he is only complimenting me on my ability to mask said mistake and incorporate it into the tune, like the pros do he says... i appreciate the acknowledgment

  • OK, i went back and watched my video again. The E note you alert me to is NOT a mistake but entirely intentional. It's how I play the tune. Think of it this way: part 3 has C-shakes with arpeggios on E & F using LowA, then has D-shakes with similar movement using F & hG. It makes perfect sense, for me, to play part 4's C-shakes segment with arpeggios on hA-hG-E not F. F is already part of the hA-hG-F movement in the D-shakes area. I think the way i play it sound more logical and musical.

  • Hey Ian, cheers for the explaination. Yeah I was expecting the F in the 4th part but the more I listen to it the more I like your inclusion of the E instead. :) keep up the awesome piping.

  • AHHHH, ok that does make sense, cause when i was getting in tune for a parade in black watch i was having trouble with the C-shakes. i only did 2 shakes instead of 3.

  • @picopanpipe9 Oh, I see you made a spelling error in the word "incorporated". You need to learn some tact douche. Great playing.

  • @Donnybrook10 Dude, uncalled for.

  • @picopanpipe9 Your unsolicited and unqualified public critique of this exceptional piper is what was uncalled for.

  • @Donnybrook10 Did you even read my original comment sir? I am hardly negative about Ian's playing. Quite the contrary. You imply that my critique was disrespectful and offensive... It was not and had no intention of being so. There is no more to this case other than your ungrounded attack on my person.

  • Omg i love the bagpipes soo much they are beatifull xx

  • What makes you chose the bent blowstick over the straight one? I've been contemplating buying one like yours. Is it just personal preference? Or is it something to do with being comfortable?

  • it puts the blowpipe where your mouth is, but the the joints leak a lot, but if you got sealent your pretty much good

  • Wow that was AWSOME! Thank for the tune!

  • Your timing is freaking amazing. And this tune really shines whe you play it at a respectable speed. I'd say it's my favourite bagpipe tune. Keep it up Ian!

  • What kind of drone reeds do you use?

  • You are an admiration and I have just found you and I am watching all your videos!!! I have been playing for 20 years myself and was taught by Pipe Major George R Stewart in Scotland, he was the Queen Mothers Own Piper. But fairplay you are Ace!!!! Keep them coming

    Love

    Zoe

  • a step closer to greatness..

  • Excellent dude .... enjoyed that video a lot! Rated!

  • Your A Good Bagpipe Player. Keep It Up Mate ;)

  • Very well played...nice tone and perfect tempo...not too fast---way to go. Keep the vid's coming.

  • WOW bagpipes just overload your senses. Maybe its the drone I don't know but it's amazing!

  • its harmony resounding in your ears, specially with a well tuned bagpipe ^^

  • at 0:25 something weird happened. You either skipped a gracenote or paused. either way it doesn't really matter. At least it was a good recovery. I have a habit of picking up little things like that though. At 0:58 i think you paused for a nannigan shorter than you should have but still overall great performance.

  • 0:25 was not a flub but a slight pause, as was the one at 0:58. they're intentional to keep the music sounding less linear feeling. thanks for the thoughtful commentary however.

  • as a Modest piper once said... haha

  • what band do you play with?

  • i dig your shit man. dont ever stop.

  • Oh my goodness. My family lives near Turlock Junior High and we've heard you playing there. You're incredible. Please, play more often, we love it.

  • awesome! you should learn itchy fingers

  • i've known itchy fingers for years, one of the first few tunes i ever heard/learned (pertaining to bagpipes that is) i just never think to play it...

  • do you have the sheet music? i cant find a version i like or that has all the parts you play. if you do and could send me a message id really appreciate it! thanks! well played!

  • you can find it online, or on the scotts guards book 1.

  • Sorry, I meant the comment from Prodli2002..(not your first comment)

    Thanks Once Again.

  • Super duper, My thoughts are with your first comment. Well done.

  • First off, thank you for taking the time to tune your instrument properly... a rarity on YouTube. And secondly, thank you for playing at a nice tempo where the music could actually be heard. This tune, way too often, is played way too fast. We are musicians not dextrous finger gymnasts, after all. Well done, young man.

  • thank you sir... ok, spill it... who are you? you must be a world-class player or at least a piper of some reknown to comment on my video such as you did. Other people, of lower musical ability, wouldn't have necessarily commented on not only my tempo but the tuning part as well. Or maybe I'm way off here ;o)

  • The bloke is right and I am not a piper of reknown, well only in my own lunchtime.A really good version firstly, well played with consistent timing throughout, nice weighting of the notes and good tempo.I will favourite this one but most of the other Masons Apron on Youtube are not worth doing so.You are a good piper, how long have you been playing?

  • almost 17 years

  • Awesome

  • Awesome and which country you are

  • hi i was wondering if you could send me the music for "masons apron" thank you

  • What kind of bag are you using? I just got a bannatyne hybrid and I love it

  • Way to go lad , brilliant, Scotland for ever.

  • Awesome job bro. Keep up the good work:)

  • Nice job

  • Nice playing... nothing traditional about this setting of the tune though.

  • how so... i know that it's not just the simple 2 parted cut and held reel version that one can find in the scot's guards book -- is that the traditional version of which you refer?

  • I thought you did brilliant with this on the practice chanter..... even better on pipes! what is your set-up

  • david naill drones, cane drone reeds, sheepskin bag, gibson chanter, ross chanter reed

  • awesome
