Oh, and you're right. This is a forward infinity in one direction but when you turn 180 degrees it becomes a backward infinity, which requires a different way of interacting with the hoop entirely. It's hard to describe (you're right about that too) but it's almost the difference between pulling the infinity toward you from the bottom and pushing the infinity away from you from the top. Hmmm, yeah, hard to describe...
