Been cutting timber and climbing trees for prt near 30 years and I must saw that was horrible. that cut was a total waste of time and made no sence whatsoever.
there ant no way u would of passed ur cs tests if u felled ya tree like that u walked in to ya danger wones like 6 times and ur chain is blunt as anything a bever would do a better job than u
Jesus, that was painful to watch. So much energy burned, so little accomplished. Try putting your chain on backwards.... It would probably cut better....
I think it´s well done. it´s the same way you almost fell every tree in europe ... the only difference is the chains here are sharpen ... but otherwise good job man
You have apparently not been listening in class. You are cutting the face cut (notch) upside down, and it does matter. More control when the slope of the notch is on the down side.
aside from the beginner saw skills, you dont care if your dreads are full of woodchips, sap, and shit? that was the first indicator that theres some 'look cool doing it' attitude no matter the outcome. That attitude usually injures or kills yet it comes with touching the saw for the first time(s). I mean, 1300rpm in your crotch makes it a ego-tool in many ways for all. Glad you made it! and the camera survived as well yay!
1300 rpms thats a little slow dont ya think? that saw ought to be turnin well above 10,000 rpms 1300 might be what the saw ides at. i liked the camera flip that was pretty cool.
@BernFya who cares if his dreads are full of "sap n shit." anytime you use a chainsw, theres sawdust flying around. im pretty sure the dude didnt grow his dreads just to look cool when using a chainsaw. youre the only ego-tool here.
he wanted the tree down and its down. dont matter how is saw sounds or how long it is or if his chain needs sharpened or how he swings it. tree is down good nuff
i think u need to sharpen u chain and get a bigger saw.........look up more at least once......and watch when u cut only that one side of the treee it coulda spun and gone right where u were standing......happend to me once learned my lesson
I strongly suggest yuo inquire for an apprenticship with a timber faller.sharpen your chain and until you get some education DO NOT FELL ANYMORE TREES,YOU MIGHT GET HURT OR KILLED NEXT TIME.
lets see first the guy next to u is to close u should not have been cutting... Then what was that cutting in way past the upside down undercut??? then cutting the side, holding wood??? u don't have a clue ur a menace in the woods.1/4 to 1/3 humbolt undercut backcut abouve under cut and level And no one within two tree lengths min. Also wear some red so they can find ur body easy.
Seriously.. spend a half a day with an exp faller. Just carry his fuel and a couple of tools. If he schools you good, it could save your life. Lastly, going in with the backcut LOWER than the undercut can make for sudden disaster. Don't you just love all this free information?
If memory serves me right, in BC the WCB has a good guidebook for fallers.
I am amazed that someone was working less than two tree lengths from you. I demanded 3 tree lengths (I am still alive at 60+).. Secondly, your undercut went halfway through... not good. THEN, you have that noisy Stihl.. go Husquevarna..
I cannot argue with ya; never used a Stihl.. THREE tree lengths or I walk. Tree hits snag, snag hits you. I know, this never happens.
I had a pair of Husky 380's in the Prince George area. 28 in bar. Dang, I got canned because I refused to fall up a 40 deg hill. told him, Nope, skid the butts. Hey, It's my life, not his. I'd look up for almost the whole cut, and glance at the U/C and bk/cut... Hey, the never bitched about skidding my stuff. All on the trail... but I was slow
i ran an old av 031, probily a 68 or 70 model it was a beast for its size, full chisel chain was nice on it, softer wood like Chinese elm was like butter to it
well.. im prety surprised hat you arent dead.. your wedge looked a bit small.. to shallow i mean.. you rback cut was WAYYYY TO LOW after you put the wedge in the tree.. you shouldnt even hafto touch it with the saw... learn how to properly sharpen your saw cause its gonna kickback and cut your damn leg off somedya... your a trianee i understand that but whoever is training you is a god damned fool
I don't mean to "pile on", but I think part of the problem is the title of the vid, "How to Fell a Tree". "Me Felling a Tree", no problem. Lastly: sharpening a chain and keeping it that way is quite easy and needs to be a top priority, right after staying alive and un-maimed. Keep on keepin' on mate.
well, I pray to God that some pore bastard doesn't watch this and think this is the way to fell a tree. that back cut is not only too low, the notch is half again as deep as it needs to be, you're lucky you didn't loose your bar in that stump, and only luck and that wedge made that tree fall the way you wanted it too. BUT the luckiest person is that poor feller over in front of you. <<<sittin here shakin my head.
I thought you had to pass your chainsaw sharpening before you can cut trees down! Please don't use a stihl saw again, it's shamefull!! LOL only messin well done!
pah, wider then the guide bar aint a small tree and i aint no lumber jack, im a trainee arborist felling a small area of woodland for a shitty car park. perhaps it was my reluctance to do the job that made it take so long???
The tree hit the ground, not bad for an arborist in training! I do run harvesters, but I also have plenty of experience with power saws (Stihl 460 and 660 currently). Some trees are still too big for machinery, so the need to manually fell trees over 28 inches in diameter is still there. My advice, keep your eyes on the tree and on the target area and plan your cuts well. Good Luck.
I have been a Professional cutter in Great Lakes hardwood stands for many years now, with a perfect safety record. I define a "leaner" as a tree that has more than a 15 degree tilt. You got it down, But one should never stand in the fall path of a tree, even after being notched, nor should ANYONE else be on the ground within a minimum area of 1.5 times the height of the felling tree. Perhaps I would suggest a larger saw and longer bar next time. I'd have it down in less than 2 by the way.
Oh well fair ply govner, i honestly do apprsiate advice, i have been a trainee arborist for all of 6 months. so mistakes are to be expected . i recorded this originaly to learn by watching myself and my mistakes. I havent done my medium tree ticket so am not used to doing a double sided sink cut.
Less than two! Yeah with your big fat machinery.
Anything else i idi wrong? I sure noticed my posture is terrible.
Going with the "chain saw cut" theme there... Pretty doubtful anything can beat the speed of a Hotsaw to cut off a tree. But we can pull out the Hotsaw card if you want, got one of those too.
It took you 4 minutes and 20 seconds to fell one small tree? And it wasn't even a leaner?? There's just so much to comment on I wouldn't know where to start... At least you got it to hit the ground!
4.20 isnt that long. it was wider than the guide bar so not that small and it was a leaner hence the split level and high lift wedge. . I agree i made mistakes but id like to see you do it matey.
so 30 sec plus 10 for bull shit i don't think so

The felling cut was a bit low compared to where the face notch was, and the wedge was probably unnecessary. But hey! Not bad for an novice.

@truthtuube not really, most of the control is in the hinge you leave between the notch and the back cut.
