  • Very intresting

  • i wannt a bonfire night

  • British history, oh how fun! :)

  • Those silly conspirators just didn't get terrorism did they? They don't send letters first nowadays - Oh wait.. yeah they do.. But there's no King James to sort them out.

  • Thank you! This is more entertaining and understandable than wikipedia haha

  • He said at around 1:28 King James... it was Charles you were talking about a second ago :P

  • 'Stop being so catholic you ruddy buggers.'

  • you come up with the sexiest insults.

  • "You... ruddy boogers!" New favorite insult :D

  • @YourHoleyness buggars...

  • this could have helped me sooo much about 6 months ago and i find it now?! really? why is the world so cruel to me?

  • @musicheartist yeah he does!! Love bonfire nite cause it's my BIRTHDAY! XD

  • I think you should give your degree in history some use and do more videos like this :) uneducate the masses, the need it.

  • Bonfire night, bonfire night, don't forget the dynamite!

  • You sound like Steve Coogan.

  • you ruddy buggers :P Sooooo English :)

  • i'd totally give you a blowie.

  • well... you're hot.

  • Gotta love those crazy catholics with their unorganized parlaments bombs!

  • you say the funniest things.

  • So.....this is what a degree in history has took you then.

    :') <3

  • I totally learned about this guy today then came across this video...serendipidis!

  • "Look mate, some shits about to go down. You might want to take off" omg.

  • I love how you related this story as if you know the people involved XD "Nothing gets by James I! He's got eyes in the back of his head!"

  • quartered isn't really being "chopped" into bits.

each of your limbs is tied to a horse, and each horse goes in a different direction and pulls you apart. :)

  • @310BPM The smiley face really helped make that comment less gruesome.

  • @XLittleMissAmazingX

    well it's true! :3

  • do more fun history please!

  • It does make you wonder why we celebrate it though! What a bizarre thing to celebrate. Are we celebrating the fact that he didn't blow up parliament by building replica fires, or are we like, yay, go Guy, look at our fires? Neither makes sense. I always thought it was because he'd been burned alive, which was a pretty horrific thing to celebrate, but no....

  • always happy to see you!! =D

  • look mate, some shits about to go down, you might wanna head off

that killed me xD Jimmy, i missed you. Never leave again please :D

  • I always thought that drawing referred to evisceration..... but it seems maybe Jimmy is right

  • history is fun tower of london execution hung drawn and quartered terrorist

  • Jimmy the Historian :-)

Also, that's only half the rhyme. It goes on to talk about Gunpowder, treason and plot.

Little known fact, the gunpowder was damp, so even if Guy had made it, it wouldn't have gone off.

  • Thanks for the history lesson "Jimmy"! It's so cool that you know how James I *actually* talked, you know, since you're English or whatever, and you guys have the same name. Your interpretation of these events is as informative as it is entertaining! Next time though, more fireworks.

    -Georgia

  • You know, comparing this to your old videos, you have definitely lost some of your accent! And wow, you grew up niiice.

  • :)!

  • I had no idea what guy fawkes day was and now I feel so informed! thanks jimmy! you're adorable!

  • I went to my first bonfire night ever in South London on Saturday with some lovely people and there were fireworks and it was amazing. :3

  • You ruddy boogahs.

  • So i already knew all that and yet i still watched the whole video. Therefore i'm glad i found you on youtube. Someone who can make me want to listen and learn about history i already know. Yay! Thanks.

    And i swear that wasn't sarcasm :)

  • This made me happy on a multitude of levels. I'm an american and i asked my global teacher to explain Guy Fawkes Day to me and she had no idea how. This was perfect. Glad you're back Jimmy.

  • I'm so glad you're back Jimmy :D

  • Remember, remember the 5th of November, the gunpowder treason and plot. I see no reason the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.

    Great explanation, Jimmy.

  • I loved your explanation. I think it's all really interesting too :)

  • I hope you stick to your promise of being 'back'

  • Where's your question video?

  • So evidently, in the last videos comments, lots of people asked what Guy Fawkes day was all about....

  • You look so different but welcome back.

  • y u no answered the questions from the last video? :(

  • I got to work on the day and my boss goes, "Remember remember....... TODAY'S THE 5TH!" xD

  • what sportswear have to do with guy wanting blow up parliament i don't make fun out of your fagy style hair on the side picked eyebrows :D

  • @sad4ewer you make a strong case for sportswear

  • @j0ames im not but still beter then get fucked in the ass like u :D

  • ahaha hilarious :D

  • the whole time i thought you were talking about Guy Ritchie and thought this makes no sense

  • I missed you.

  • Why do we celebrate him NOT blowing up the palace of westminster???!!

  • @Drobium77 we celebrate him trying.

  • @wedancedtogether125 No we don't - it's a Protestant celebration of the fact that the plan was foiled. Obviously it's just another one of our hundreds of traditions now though :)

  • If that's wet ya whistle haha! Love it!

  • :D I liked your retelling of the story thanks Jimmy I`ve not heard that story since i was 6 xxx

  • I had no idea that the British did a bon fire night for the 5th of November.

  • Remember, remember the fifth of November, Gunpowder, treason and plot I see no reason why gunpowder, treason Should ever be forgot Guy Fawkes, guy t'was his intent, To blow up king and parliament Three score barrels, were laid below To prove old England's overthrow. By God's mercy, he was catch'd, With darkened lantern and lighted match So holler boys, holler boys, let the bells ring Holler boys, holler boys, god save the king

  • @mypieceofstring I would happily like to inform you that Guido Fawkes also known as Guy Fawkes didn't even have much of a role in the plot. Although Guido Fawkes was apart of the first 13 Catholic conspirators to come up with the idea of killing king James and replacing him with his daughter his most important role was merely a guard for the gunpowder.

  • NOVEMBER 5TH IS MY BIRTHDAY!!! hehehe

  • Thanks for teaching us the proper history of Guy Fawkes day, Jimmy!! Which also happens to be my birthday! Happy to see your lovely face on my birthday :) Keep makin videos, love.

  • Jimmy, buddy, you're an amazing story teller, just make these slightly more different with little props and things, like when Alex does '....in 3 minutes'.

  • So interesting jimmy I actually Neva knew the. Full story watched this so many times ur soo funny and interesting if you were my teacher for history I would have taken it for a a levels!!

  • bonfire night. the only night that celebrates terrorism.

  • I keep hearing 'prostitute' instead of protestant....

  • What!! You're still alive? With there not being any videos here in ages I thought something really bad had happened to you like you had died, or even something worse, you had become a TV presenter.

  • Dont Catholics believe strongly that all life is created in the image of God and therefore ALL life is Sacred... No matter who or what the person does? O.o confused.

  • @IamAThatter It's not about religious belief, it's about religious persecution. Often times when terrorist attacks or other certain acts are performed in the name of religion, they are not actually representing ides from that religion and do not reflect the beliefs of the majority of the people who follow that religion. The wars and skirmishes between Catholics and Protestants in the British Isles were quite frequent and mostly just because the other side was "other," making them scared.

  • @IamAThatter I'm Catholic...so don't take this personally if you are too...but we've been known to be pretty damn hypocritical. Look at the crusades, and really anything the pope says.

  • Very interesting, thanks for the history lesson! :D

  • Your mannerisms are similar to Gervais'

  • I always felt like the other lads in the plot got a bad deal... no day named after them.

  • You shpuld be on horrible histories. :D

  • Wha- I feel like I... Learned something!

  • I've been doing a VLR run through since it returned.

Episode 3, Jimmy on Guy Fawkes:

"Bit of a kill joy. Hundreds of people come down to see him cut up and that. He calls himself an entertainer"

Also, Jimmy's controversial opinion on Pudsy:

"He is a totally selfless bear. He lost his eye in an unfortunate paint balling stunt. He regrets it.

They offered him money: 'get your eye fixed up'

He said: 'No. Give it.. erm. Give it to the little.. SPASTIC'"

"The little black kid- oh shit"

  • ah i didnt know about jimmy's history degree :P but yea do a weekly history feature on youtube! that'd be so cool ;D

  • Remember, remember the fifth of November, gunpowder, treason and plot. I see no reason, why gunpowder treason, should ever be forgot.

Silly bugger doesn't know the whole rhyme...

  • Please be my history teacher!

  • This is one of the things you could do with your history degree, do a weekly history feature on youtube!

  • ah good old 16th century sports wear :D

  • are you and Alex ever going to bring VLR back?!

  • @xMissShaSha they have

  • James I didnt really hate catholic, his mother had been one. but he had advisors who told him to discriminate against them so he did. and you forgot about how they put guy faulks on the rack and tortured him till he admitted everything :) happy bonfire night!

  • You should do education videos like this :D

  • this was really good!

  • I love you. So much. Keep talking.

  • i heart you

  • dear god i could listen to you talk all day. you're absolutely brilliant!

  • I've never heard of Bonfire Night, being from the US. I have heard of V for Vendetta....but I've never seen it (Netflix never reccommended it to me but they thought I was a Nazi so I cancelled). I like consider myself a bit of a History buff but maybe it's just American and Eastern European History that I know well (Communism is really interesting). I'll just stick to what I'm sure of and that is art. What a disturbing picture that would be for me to paint, of Guy Fawkes cheating his execution.

  • Jimmy, you and history are two of my most favorite things. The combination nearly exploded my brain.

  • I actually enjoyed coming home from work and receiving a history lesson from you. I now feel happier and more educated. Thanks Jimmy :)

  • Bonfire night, bonfire night, it's alway rainy and shyte

  • @SamFuseVideos yes!

  • @SamFuseVideos It wasn't rainy :D at least not here in Cyprus ahahah :)

  • Im sitting here like, "Where have I heard the end of this story before?" only to realize you told it on VLR. :D True fan right here.

  • "Look mate, shit's going to go down" Yup, that is totally factually correct. People in 1600/1700s definatly talked like that.. ;)

  • I never heard of this story as I live across many seas but i like it and im gonna read about it thank you! :)

  • bonfire night, bon fire night, don't forget to ignite?

  • I quite enjoyed this factually incorrect retelling. I'd still like to think it was the most accurate.

  • i knew the history but hearing it by you was quite nice

  • We just learned this in History and we have a quiz on Monday, so I was quite excited to hear that watching Youtube videos IS studying.

  • history with jimbo.

  • Wonderful.

  • Remember remember the5th of november, gun powder, treason and plot, I see no reason why gunpowder, treason, Should ever be forgot...

I think that summarises the night fairly well tbh :P

  • But do we celebrate that he tried or that he failed?

  • @TheCallumMeister18 i'd say that he failed, due to the burning of his efigy...

  • Maybe king James heard about all the molesting going on in the catholic church?

jeez. You just never hear about the good side of suppression and torture in history class....

  • @xqeenx James I had his male "favourites" (he was bi) so his whole thing with religious purity was a bit hypocritical

  • FUN HISTORY!

  • yay a fellow history major being dorky!

  • Comment removed

  • What happened to your videos being funny?

  • @NightPrince7 he took them all down.

  • you and your history degree eh?

  • this is just amazing. It's quite late at night, I have to get up early tomorrow and still I'm watching this video without ever having been just slightly interested in history. Oh well Jimmy, you can certainly make me enjoy such stories :) Thanks for the late night education and good night! <3 :)

  • oooooh i like this!!!!!!!!!

  • God i love our voice!!

  • I love your accent. You say goonpowder.

  • FINALLY

  • So, your degree wasn't for nothing after all. So glad!

  • You need to get yourself on horrible histories...

  • Great video jimmy! But when u gonna do the questions answered video?

  • You should be a history teacher!

  • I like to think that the note really did say "Look mate some shits about to go down, you might wanna head off"

  • I forgot...

  • Can you imagine if Guy Fawkes had a normal name like Barry or something. Mental

  • Great story! I learned something

  • thanks, it makes sense now :)

  • I've never understood something so deeply.

  • Fire and ember, the 5th of November. I win.

  • The full rhyme Jimmy:

Remember remember the fifth of November

    Gunpowder, treason and plot.

I see no reason why gunpowder, treason

    Should ever be forgot...

  • @TzatzikiFiend It still doesn't specify bonfire night though. No mention of sparklers or anything :)

  • I have noting original to say, but the comments below this one generally seem to say what I'm thinking

  • BE A TEACHER

  • "Remember the fifth of November for gunpowder, treason and plot."

Also, there's some debate over whether drawn refers to the dragging of the live victim to the butcher's block or the (with)drawing of the entrails.

  • i was gonna say that it feels good to hear history be retold by someone you know actually knows what they are talking about - you should definitely do more of this!

(then i noticed that everyone else had said so already)

  • This was a great way to spend 4:53 minutes of my life!!!!

  • *cough* Jimmyfinallydoingsomethingwithhishistorydegree *cough*

    :)

  • @kaylaann93 perfect comment

  • Bonfire night is my birthday ^.^ <3

  • @55Fanpire55 same

  • How strange, just listined to the VLR episode where you mention Guy Fawkes cheating the punishment by jumping of the gallows :P

  • @0uterHaven I was listen to the same episode a few days ago and was just waiting for that fact.

  • Puts the phrase "horse drawn carriage" into a whole new perspective...

  • You missed a bit, Jimmy.

"Remember, remember, the fifth of November, the gunpowder treason and plot. I see no reason why this gunpowder treason should ever be forgot."

  • You should do a history feature, because to be honest this is way more interesting than when I had to learn about it in history and you'd make a funny teacher;)

  • " 'Course he does, he's got eyes in the back of his head!" lmao

  • So he cheated the gallows and didn't get all drawn and quartered? Killjoy.

  • more story/history videos!!! =D

  • I liked this. Your words educated me while your face made my nipples feel tingly.

  • @Raphaelus13 I cant even put into words how fabulous this comment is.

  • I though Jeremiah Brandreth was the last man to be hung, drawn and quartered?

  • do they celebrate anywhere else, or just us wise ode englishmen?

  • the imagery here is wonderful. now when i think of guy fawkes, i think of him in a track suit with a guilty expression.

  • what happened to the Q&A?

  • That was really interesting! Great that you are making videos again.

  • I'm having flashbacks of my school assembly.

  • wait... are you trying to say that King James didn't like Catholics? I'm a little confused.

  • <3

  • one of Guy Fawkes' mates, Thomas Percy, went to my school. Beverley Grammar School!

  • well, now you've found something to do with your history degree. Great video, btw!
