  • id did the same but with a red stripe on the side

  • @ctescort0 Nice.. :)

  • Lovely Little model well done :)

  • @Kmodeller Thanks.. I enjoyed it, in spite of the (for me) somewhat complicated build manual.. :)

  • DUDE!!! You built a car!!!! I think I am gonna faint. LoL! A clean build...no..a Triumphant build!!! Great work Keep Building!!!

  • Why are you quitting your hobby?! You can't!!!!!!!

    You're fabulous at models!

    Besides, why quit now?!?!?!?!?!

    DON'T QUIT!!!!!!!!!

  • A car?!... a car?!... brilliant. Another very interesting build. Can you please do an E-Type next?.. :) :) These Airfix starter sets are actually surprisingly good kits. I must buy one of these next time I see it.

  • Okinsh!

  • Thanks, Rob!

  • @MrEdgars98 No problem.. :) There WILL be a compo as soon as I can, but it will probably be a bit smaller than normal, as I have run out of kits to give away as prizes..

  • @BasicModelling

    Another competition you say :V?

  • Excellent! It looks really like 66! ;)

  • @trainfart Thank you.. :)

  • Oh by the way - when is the next competition? I've got two fresh dioramas!

  • @MrEdgars98 It will be sometime next spring, I hope... as long as my sons cancer treatment all works out ok, which I'm quite sure it will! At the moment I just haven't got the time to even think about a competition...

  • @basicmodeling Thanks, Rob!

  • @MrEdgars98 No probs.. the question is free.. You may not like the answer always, but it's free to ask.. at least until next week when I will start charging for each reply I make... ;)

  • @LeConnoisseurs Please refresh my memory.. what was the channelname again? :)

  • @BasicModelling LeConnoisseurs, yeah boy

  • Please, Rob, show all your models and room where you keep them!

  • @MrEdgars98 People ask me that all the time.. but the truth is that most of my models are packed away in boxes as I haven't got the space to display them all properly.. :( I started swapping them around on my shelves in the bedroom, but haven't had the time lately to do the job properly.. so at the moment I won't be making any such videos.. but thank you for asking... :)

  • nice car indeed

  • @PetrW72 Thank you very much.. it was a welcome change from aircraft and tanks... :)

  • Nice build. What a classic!

  • @Colfax11000 A classic indeed.. I'd love to have one in 1/1 scale.. original.. :)_

  • Nice finish.Im with you on the instructions.I've just got the airfix Aston Martin to build as a break from planes.I was very shocked at how poor the instructions are.I made the mistake of glueing the dash in the wrong place, very annoying.

  • @ashbaume I take it that must be the old Aston Martin kit, and not the new version recently issued?? I'd love to get my hand on the old kit... :)

  • @BasicModelling Yeah the old db5.Exactly like the triumph, but with out an engine bay.It could be cleaned up into a lovely kit.It does come with some flash and some of the molded seems need sanding. Its such a shame the instructions are so bad.Im with you,I feel sorry for the person/kid thats has it for a first model

  • @ashbaume I will still get it though, when I can.. It seems like Airfix will release most of their old car kits again, I'd love to do their 'Mini' if they release it... :)

  • There were some of these cars in Malta.nice model .

  • @joluqa I think they were pretty much everywhere.. :) Glad you liked the model.. :)

  • my uncle owns one of these cars it is a cool car

  • @amazedrew22 He is a lucky man.. :)

  • Beauty !

  • @Zjwaamseliedjes Thanks... I hope you had a good weekend.. I'm off to London again next week, my son is having his 4th chemotherapy session, but they are nearly done now... :)

  • Lovely job of a lovely old British Classic!

I see what you mean about the instructions, no arrows pointing to where each part should go, or at least, that's what it looked like in the photos...

  • @bruce3371 Thanks... and yes, they gave you the general layout of the parts assembly, but it was very poorly shown, as where to place them or any of the subassemblies exactly.. I feel sorry for anyone who builds this as their first model, sometimes I think Airfix does as much harm to the hobby as they do good... :P

  • @BasicModelling Yes, loath as I am to admit it about such a great British institution as Airfix, but I'd have to agree with you on that one :(

I mean, in Britain, we have the knowledge and the technology to be as good as everyone else, so why aren't we?

  • @bruce3371 Well, there's nothing much wrong with the NEW Airfix kits, I have a new car kit of theirs and it is much better.. But they insist on reissuing all this old stuff as well, some of which is still buildable, but a lot of it would be best displayed in a museum now.. and should certainly NOT be sold as starter kits for the youngsters just beginning the hobby! Old fogeys like me who remember them from the first time around builds them out of nostalgia, but that is different.. :)

  • @BasicModelling Yes, fair comment about their newer kits, although, their panel lines could do with being a bit shallower, (unless they've already improved them?).

I agree that the older kits shouldn't be re-issued as starter kits for new/young modellers, they would be enough to put anyone off our hobby! And I totally agree about the nostalgia value of the older kits, there's plenty of old Airfix and Matchbox models I wouldn't mind building again!

  • @bruce3371 Personally (as I handbrush) I don't mind the panel lines as they get pretty much filled with paint.. but I can understand that those who airbrush objects to the trenchlike panels on some of the newer Airfix stuff... :) As for Matchbox, depending on if you are a purist and only want Matchbox originals or not, there is always Revell and their many re-issues of the Matchbox planes and armour that they do on a regular basis... :) I enjoy them just as much as the Matchbox origs.. :)

  • @BasicModelling I have to admit to being a purist about Matchbox! There's just something about their boxart and instruction sheets; seeing them on various websites makes feel really nostalgic!!

  • @bruce3371 Well, nothing wrong with appreciating the originals.. :) One of my upcoming builds, hopefully early next year, will be the original Matchbox 1/72 B-26 Marauder, which I picked up for £10 at the RAF Hendon show in May this year.. so that is something for you to look forward to! It comes in three different colour plastic.. you just have to love a kit like that! Best of all, one of the decal options is for a B-26 that flew from Boxted, so that's the one I'll do!! My Airfix B-26 failed!!

  • @BasicModelling Ah yes, the B26 Marauder, I remember it well! I did the version with the D-Day invasion stripes (don't remember which squadron). I had a bit of a carry on trying to get the invasion stripe decals to sit on the wings properly. In the end, I'd had enough and just left them wrinkly!! Inspite of that, it was still one of my favourites!

I'll definately look out for yours, it will bring back a lot of fond memories :)

  • @bruce3371 I won't have time now, as I go to London tomorrow, (back Sunday) but I can try and do an Inbox Review of it on my inbox channel, if you like... :)

  • @BasicModelling Yes please, if you have time - I know you've got a lot on your plate at the moment.

Best wishes for your London trip, hope all goes well (or as well as can be expected in the circumstances) :)

  • this car reminds me of the triumph that max drives in get smart

  • @bugone13 I need to google that one.. it could well be! The TR4, TR4A & TR5 all looked quite simlar, I think.. but I might be wrong.. :)

  • Lovely looking Truimph, defiantely a classic British car. Excellent video compilation, tha background music matches the theme very nicely.

  • @chancerNW Well, it had to be the 'Triumph March' for a Triumph car... ;) I got a note from YouTube saying that it was copyright infringement, but they stuck an advert on the video, so it seems they don't mind too much.. :)

  • and interestingly "D" registration was 1966 so there you have it - a Triumph!

  • @MrRandomWritings A good vintage no doubt.. :)

  • I have just finished building that kit too but chose to spray paint it with a different shade of blue

  • @HARRYMALLARD I wish I had sprayed mine, but it was too cold outside.. so I stuck to doing it as per Airfix recommendations... :)

  • That's a really good clean build and excellent finish for brush painted, better than I can achieve with a brush. One thing I did note is that you haven't painted the rear quarter panels of the hood, these would be matte black as per the hood. Re the chrome, if you airbrush then alclad is unbeatable.

  • @spidiq8 Well, I think I followed Airfiox instructions, but perhaps not.. Either way it can be rectified... :) Alclad is excellent stuff, I agree.. but as you pointed out yourself, you do need to airbrush it.. :)

  • A Car! Excellent! Can you make a taxi next? LOL

  • @fehquig As soon as the London taxi is out I will order a kit and build it.. rest assured.. :)

  • @RobWillieJesse You never bother me.. never!! :) Things aren't too bad at the moment, we have had a couple of very good weeks, actually.. My son never had to go to the local hospital at all this time, which made a welcome change.. he has been able to spend all his time just relaxing at home and has even done some modelling.,. Next week its back to London though, for the 4th (of 5) chemosession. We don't expect another good week, but we can always hope... :)

  • Ah, back in the day when we British made cars that looked British, sounded British and even smelt British! (?)

For a kit dating from that memorable year of 1966, it looks like there's a surprising attention to detail here that I bet the tool maker was a Triumph owner! ;)

Anyway, beautifully done Rob and nice to see something different! :)

  • @MakingModelsAgain Well, in my opinion the detail leaves a lot to be desired, but I wanted to build it mainly because it was an old Airfix kit and also because I just fancied doing a car, all out the blue.. I only bought the kit less than a week ago!! I will try and get my hands on the other cars in the series, like the Ford Escort and whatever else they have out at the moment.. I hope to buld a few more cars next year, even if my main theme (if any) will be Saab aircraft, as the company (cont.)

  • (cont) celebrates their 75th anniversary next year.. or something like that.. :) So I should get a few Saab Drakens, Lansens, Viggens and 105's out and built, together with more obscure types such as the Saab B17 and B18 bombers.. But I also hope to get the P-38's built and done, that didn't get done this year, and the P-61 Black Widow too.. :)

  • Very nice bro, you did an awesome job on your first car. Once you start & keep going, it becomes second nature. I finally get to see you build a car...lol!! Those instructions looked confusing to me too & I've been building cars for a while. Keep up the awesome work, peace!!

  • @cwazmann1 Thanks.. it is my second car, actually.. don't forget I did one almost 2 years ago... :) Will do my best to build more cars, as and when I find anything that appeals to me.. glad you liked my effort!! :)

  • It was a nice cheap car. shows you how much things have gone up. with that rice now one can only gt a tankod petrol.

  • @EmCSpiteri1 Yes, times have changed... When Obama (of US presidential fame) went to win the election on a slogan of 'change', little did the world know that all he meant was that we would only have change left in our wallets... :P

  • @BasicModelling - Ha Ha Ha, you arequite right ☺

  • @EmCSpiteri1 Always.. except when I'm not! :)

  • it looks good Rob! and the Aida music was nice...Chuck

  • @granskare Well, a Triumph car demands the 'Triumphal March', don't you think?? :)

  • @BasicModelling how can one disagree with that :) I have watched wheeler dealer on youtube and they are a couple of fun car guys.

  • I had a chance to buy one when I was 16 but my parents made me fix a Vega instead. That sucked. I wish I had it now. Nice modelling buddy!

  • @Generalsplatton.. well, get the kit instead now, then you will at least have one in a smaller size to look at... :) :)

  • they dont build them like they used to, Very nice

  • @T55Storm I have always liked the design of the classic 50's and 60's cars... they are very pleasing to the eye.. :)

  • Very nice :)

  • @joelalcantar69 Thanks.. That's 2 cars I have built and finished now.... :)

  • very very nice

  • @clidefrog879 Very very Thank You!! :)

  • Nicely done Rob. It really turned out good :)

  • @ModelloursWorkshop Thanks.. I enjoyed the build, and was almost tempted to add some extra detailo to the engine, but in the end I decided it was better to have the whole thing closed off.. :) :)

  • Nice, How did you paint it? (Spraycan or brush?)

  • @modelbuilder2000 Brush... :) It is too cold now to use a spraycan outdoors, and I don't want to spray indoors for health and safety reasons... :) Glad you liked it.,. :)

  • Great model! I really like the 1 / 32 British classic.

Rob, what paint did you use to simulate the chrome?

  • @fmcVlad Thanks... I used Citadel Mithril Silver (acrylic) paint for the chrome effect.. quite pleased with how it turned out in the end!! :) Will try and buy a spraycan of chrome paint later on though, for when I do my next car.. :)

  • @BasicModelling I understand you. I use Testors chrome, an excellent result. Your triumph has inspired me and I decided to finish the Jaguar E-type.

  • @fmcVlad Sounds good.. I will buy a proper chrome spray paint for when I do a proper car kit, like my Trabant or the London Taxi I hope to buy soon / get for Christmas..

  • Looks very nice and a very nice finish :) Probably a little easier to build than the Ferrari 458 I have in the stash...

    Cy

  • @MrCycerath Well, at least you're having PROPER instructions with that kit... looking forward to seeing it done.. at some point.. :)

  • I also bought a Revell 1:72 T-72 M1 today in addition to the Tamiya Jagdpanther mentioned earlier. The tank tracks on the Russian MBT are sort of divided into parts made of hard plastic, and not being one whole rubber piece. The sprues looks very nice, and has a lighter "sand" color.

  • @InstantUsername I find the whole rubber tracks easier, but the injected tracks will look good to, as long as you take your time with them.. Either type of track are good... :)

  • I liked the design of this car. It reminded me of a fast moving car, although this car was perhaps not.

Btw, I noticed that Tamiya has 1:48 scale tank kits with a single large "die-cast chassis" made out of metal. I thought it simply meant it was made by plastic in one whole piece. One is supposed to use eh quick glue to get the few relevant plastic parts to stick to the metal. I remember the box was alluringly heavy, not knowing there was a metal part inside. :)

  • @InstantUsername I think it won severall car races back in the day when new.. so it must have been quite fast! :) Never sen a tank kit with acahassis of metal before, it must be quite heavy! I wonder why they did that, as plastic must be lighter, easier and cheaper to produce... :)

  • the result looks very nice rob! the paintwork is perfect, although you used a normal brush instead of an airbrush. My greatest respect for that :)

  • @888HamilkarBarkas888 Thank you very much!! I don't like painting gloss paint with a brush as all the dust shows up.. but it was too cold outside to spray it, and I really wanted to build the kit there and then, so I had no option but to handbrush.. :)

  • Bravo old chap...you did a crackin' job matey..she looks great : )

  • @primativemodelling Thanks.. sorry about the late reply, I have been somewhat busy.. ;)

  • @BasicModelling No worries matey...i know you've been busy : )

  • Hey, Rob I have that kit too but yellow and more detailed from Monogram!

  • I squealed with excitement when I saw this in the sub box!

    More cars, please? :D

  • @IanWilson2010 Glad you liked it.. more cars to follow.. in due time! But I have to be in the right mood.. :)

  • Nice!!!

  • @Davidxcat Thanks... I thought it made a welcome change from planes and tanks... :)

  • can you make a building review of the F-15D Eagle 1/72 from Academy ?

  • @gabrielcenteno100 I haven't got the kit.. My son has it and he will buiold it at some point, but right now I can't say when.. My son is in the middle of chemotherapy treatment so haven't got much time for modelling right now... but has posted a few videos on his channel, if you want to check it out.. :) You'll find a link to it on the BasicModelling channelpage.. :)

  • Does your son have cancer? :(

  • @IanWilson2010 Hey, I am BasicModelling's son and yes, I do have cancer. I'm in the middle of my chemo treatment and with any luck it will be finished by Christmas :D (It hasn't stopped me doing some modelling here and there though hehe)

    Cy

  • @MrCycerath Aw sorry, bro. Hope you get through it!

If you start uploading like your pop, I'll sub!

  • @IanWilson2010 Ah thanks man. I have a couple of vids up of previous builds. I will carry on uploading as I make more models but I won't be uploading anywhere near as many or as often as my dad as I work at a slower pace!

  • @IanWilson2010

What kind of question is that. :O

  • @InstantUsername Read previous comments. He said his son was going through Chemo.

  • @IanWilson2010 I see my son replied himself, so no need for me to do it again.. :)

  • Hi! Nice Kit!!

by the way if talk about Car kits

why not make DUEL Truck?? from Spielberg's 1971 Movie?

revell make nice Kenworth with Missile

it's easy to convert into Peterbilt 281

  • @SASORI5140 I will look it up.. Hope to build more cars next year, but doing some more up to date stuff than this old Airfix kit...! I actually enjoy doing cars, I have discovered.. but at a rate of one a year I'm not exactly building too many... :)

  • @BasicInboxReviews

look please Honest John Missile and mobile transporter Revell

    it is very nice kit

  • I am glad that you made mention "it shows its true age". I thought the modelling of it was excellent but didn't feel the finished product was up to your normal standard, but before I read your comment, I thought it was the product you were dealing with.

    Very nicely done!

    Cat

  • @Catattafish Thanks! Well, I could probably have paid more attention to the interior, and also added a tonne of cables and wires to the engine, had I so desired.. but the engine doesn't show, (I chose not to) so that would have been a pointless exercise.. This was more of a dry run while I wait for Revells 1/24 scale kit of the classic London Taxi to hit the market.. I will give THAT model my full attention and time!! Also handbrushing gloss paint is very tricky, as the dust shows mercilessly..

  • Looks like a very nice kit. How long did it take you to build it?

  • @MrStarraider About a week, sitting down for a short period every evening and a couple of mornings after work.. It was the painting that took the time, as always! I could have detailed it more, but this was just a bit of fun... :) I will build more cars next year, though... :)
