Fuck all of you with your "feeling" garbage. His SHREDDING may not move you but it takes a lot of time and practice to be able to do what he does. Investing that much effort means there's a LOVE for the bass guitar as an instrument. Love = Feeling. U play something better.
@samuelhurwood nah...I think people should be able to do with their instruments what they wish. He's playing what he hears in his head/what he wants to on the instrument he loves to play. there's nothing better than that! :-)
@beetlesazer I don't know if that's a fair judgement... John has never been the showman that this guy is, he always takes the back seat so you never really notice what he can do because you simply don't know what he can do; yet I have great reason to believe that there is much he has yet to show us.
I must admit a six string bass is "Too Much Neck" for my hands, but one can learn a
a lot from watching this guy!! I love how he bends the "High C String"!! A great alternative (no pun intended), is a 5 string bass strung and tuned low to high as follows: E-A-D-G-C, which is basically a six string bass, minus the "Low B String". That is more playable than a six string bass, since a lot of players don't use,or rarely use the "Low B String" anyway!!
Ok, it makes me laugh to see all those people who say that this guy is shit. I garrante that 99.9% couldnt play something like that, you know why? Because playing that fast is difficult. If you dont think he's as good as another bass player then fair enough, that's YOUR opinion but this man is a very talented bass player. To anyone who thinks this guy sucks: post a video of you playing something better or at least equal and I'll tip my hat to you, otherwise fuck off.
@TheMightyYak speed is not somthing that is difficult, it's just a matter of moving your fingers quicky. to be a great you have to do things with groove and meaning, not just try to make as much noise as possible as fast as possible
@bassplayr314, upload a vid of yourself playing as fast as he does, then I'll take you seriously when you say playing fast is not difficult. I play bass, I realise that it requires more musical ability to play with 'groove and meaning' but you cannot deny that playing that fast requires dedication and a lot of practise.
@TheMightyYak I agree, all those people are idiots, and it makes me laugh too that they think they can judge a musician just by 2 or 3 videosin youtube . This guy is a fuckin´good musician he also plays jazz in a band and he´s a good cello player too.

This is quite easy as a matter of fact. I do it as daily exercise to warm up my fingers. The FX helps to make it sound awsome. The only difference between him and me is that he probably earns money with it.
Que me desculpe Mariutti mas o Angra teve um substituto muito bom,eu não diria melhor mas mais diversificado e mais veloz até porque Andreoli toca com 3 dedos.
i gotta agree with metalman on this one, u can tell this guys got talent but idk it just seems that he coulda put it together a little btr, and rebornthroughhate melodic tunes arent the only thing tht makes u a good bassist, but u do hav a piont, he could easily be classified as just a fast fretter, som1 who is just good at stringing things togethr and playing it fast(like he might as well be playin an electric guitar instead of a bass)but he's prty good none the less
So many little haters. The funny thing, is that all that negativity stems from somewhere inside you all... Felipe won, wins, and will continue to win.
He has talent to play "licks". Being an artist requires much more. He has no vision, no touch, no heart. Maybe if he focuses on the emotional & melodic sides of playing for the next 5 years - instead of practicing quick licks in his bedroom - he can play something of quality. Right now he really isn't very good. I would not normally bash a player, but if he's going to solo, he's going to be judged against the best. He doesn't cut it.
He has good speed, but otherwise he is a really poor bassist. Bad sound, bad feel, the entire concept of what he played was amateurish. He played like he had no love for the instrument. I love speed (Sheehan's playing, some of which is amazing, some as pointless as this), but I'd rather listen to Dominique DiPiazza, Gary Willis, or Adam Nitti. You can tell who's a pro bassist and who isn't. Felipe is just a guy who got the 3 finger speed down - everything else is pretty awful.
I may agree with you as for the "no love for the instrument" but he didn't sound amateurish at all. And the sound isn't bad at all, either. If you wanna listen to bass soloists, don't listen to Angra, it's a metal BAND. I wonder why you wasted so much time in watching and commenting this... hmmm...
Because I've been a pro bassist for the last 20 years. Started off in metal (still my #1 love), but have long moved onto jazz/fusion, as it allows me to express myself better. However, being in a metal band is no excuse. Franck Hermanny from Adagio is a very good bassist and soloist. If Felipe is going to solo, he has to be judged as an individual. This is shitty playing with shitty sound and shitty stage presence. A bit annoying, that's all.
He's a great bass player but I don't like his solos at all. I'd much prefer to see a nice groovy solo rather than shredding, that's not what basses are for.
A few days back, I posted some huge response to your post about the actual music theory behind why what you posted is absolutely ridiculous, but YouTube said I had posted too often before that in a short time, so they deleted it. Then it dawned on me. Anyone who doesn't realize the brilliance behind this ACTUALLY musically speaking (theory and such) doesn't deserve to have the time of day.

It was making an observation of things we've seen over the years, many yaers at that, nothing more. Its too bad that stuff you don't understand crawls under your skin and gives you the "offended fag" syndrome. Grow up sister.
Hey man !? Do you feel the need to argue ? I don't feel that need, but you calling me a fag seems that you want...
And, everyone learns from someone and modifies the learned style to his own, some even create their own .
The point is that I wasn't offended and that my comment wasn't argue based but just the normal comment that meaned something like "Everyone has to learn from someone, some can even learn it better" .
That was your exact reply to my observation. I was not arguing, I laughed and called it how it came across. Like a childish, homo, offended type of "so what....boo hoo...he's great" reply.
"Everyone has to learn from someone, some can even learn it better"
Your most recent reply I would have agreed with. "So what if I/he/she did", thats deffensive. So much of that goes on here, I reply to what I read. Moving on, I see it was a misunderstanding. God Bless ya.
You know, He's almost got a bit of a Billy Sheehan touch with all of the fast stuff. He's very talented, but it's not as clean as it could be...might just be the recording.
Exactly my thoughts. He is heavily influenced by Sheehan. I don't find this very musical since it's mostly about speed and muscle memory. It is very hard to master and takes a lot of practice but I would rather hear an improvised walking Jazz bass line which requires less technique but much more musical knowledge. While walking you have to be creating music in your head 3 or 4 notes ahead of what you're actually playing not stuff you've memorized previously.
what is talent? playing fastly? i have no doubt of his musicality and his great bass technique, but dude, this is not a good bass solo... i meant this solo is not music at all, music is an art which is meant to comunicate; here i see i guy who gives to his fans what they like: music? no, just steady bass playing.. that's my point
Fastly? Nice use of the English language. I beleive the word is quickly, just to start this off. Anyways, he's not just playing random fast notes. He has an ear for music and shows it by playing notes that actually fit together to form a godo sound. That's musical talent. And what do you mean it's not music? I hear music. Does anyone else hear music?
i don't think talent and even music is just playing a sucession of notes... a good musician, a good basss player is known for making a message with the fewer notes, a good poet can say something enormous with the fewer words... that's it, the rest are mechanized exercises. why do you think wise people are the less talkative? the same in music, the real music is not in the notes, but in the silence.
hando, dont diss someone for poor grammar when its obviously not his first language, and then miss spell a simple word you brazen hypocrite. grow up.
You'll find that the bassist sums his entire solo up at the end, like he's admitting that what he's doing is pointless, throw away, and a little bit sad.
we are talkin about the solo, not what kind of musician he is,the solo is not entertaining me,nor im glad to listen to it...maybe he is a slilful bassplayer ,but he don communicate with people using his solo, thats all about, but angr ais f***ing good despitely...
He's definitely got some melodic parts in there. He's mostly speed because that is the style of metal he is in. If he did a totally melodic solo with Angra? Most people would be like - BORING ASS! It's part showmanship and part musicality. Definitely a lot of technique.
Another one amongst a million playing notes for the sake of playing notes and doing exercises. Technique is important but that's all it is. It is not making music.
Yes, they are all jealous. It `s always the same in youtube. Many people here comment nonsense (or bullshit if you prefer)I ´m sure most of them don t play any instrument or they try to play some ones, but they haven´t got anything!!. That guy is a good and very talented bassplayer.
man why are you guys being haters... this is a good bassist... just with a different style..
i mean it took time and effort to get as good as he is... and he just doesn't "pop" or "slap" as much as most well known bassist do... just chill and give props where props are do

You know, He's almost got a bit of a Billy Sheehan touch with all of the fast stuff. He's very talented, but it's not as clean as it could be...might just be the recording.
Jimmytuba08 4 years ago
Exactly my thoughts. He is heavily influenced by Sheehan. I don't find this very musical since it's mostly about speed and muscle memory. It is very hard to master and takes a lot of practice but I would rather hear an improvised walking Jazz bass line which requires less technique but much more musical knowledge. While walking you have to be creating music in your head 3 or 4 notes ahead of what you're actually playing not stuff you've memorized previously.

yes very skilled, the fact is that there are only empty notes played very fastly but no sense of music at all...
sebassabes84 4 years ago
no sense of music? oh shush. This guy has more musical talent than 99% of the people who dare call themselves musicians.
Hando92 4 years ago
what is talent? playing fastly? i have no doubt of his musicality and his great bass technique, but dude, this is not a good bass solo... i meant this solo is not music at all, music is an art which is meant to comunicate; here i see i guy who gives to his fans what they like: music? no, just steady bass playing.. that's my point
sebassabes84 4 years ago
Hando92 4 years ago
i don't think talent and even music is just playing a sucession of notes... a good musician, a good basss player is known for making a message with the fewer notes, a good poet can say something enormous with the fewer words... that's it, the rest are mechanized exercises. why do you think wise people are the less talkative? the same in music, the real music is not in the notes, but in the silence.
triskelion86 4 years ago 3
hando, dont diss someone for poor grammar when its obviously not his first language, and then miss spell a simple word you brazen hypocrite. grow up.
You'll find that the bassist sums his entire solo up at the end, like he's admitting that what he's doing is pointless, throw away, and a little bit sad.
EtcEtcAndEtc 4 years ago
we are talkin about the solo, not what kind of musician he is,the solo is not entertaining me,nor im glad to listen to it...maybe he is a slilful bassplayer ,but he don communicate with people using his solo, thats all about, but angr ais f***ing good despitely...

He's definitely got some melodic parts in there. He's mostly speed because that is the style of metal he is in. If he did a totally melodic solo with Angra? Most people would be like - BORING ASS! It's part showmanship and part musicality. Definitely a lot of technique.

bronkman24 4 years ago
Another one amongst a million playing notes for the sake of playing notes and doing exercises. Technique is important but that's all it is. It is not making music.

Yes, they are all jealous. It `s always the same in youtube. Many people here comment nonsense (or bullshit if you prefer)I ´m sure most of them don t play any instrument or they try to play some ones, but they haven´t got anything!!. That guy is a good and very talented bassplayer.

i mean it took time and effort to get as good as he is... and he just doesn't "pop" or "slap" as much as most well known bassist do... just chill and give props where props are do

SasuK is right about the fact that this has no rhythm.
Bass solos, I believe, should be more musical than fast and sound-mixing.
