  • For me there is only one fresh herb i would like to grow at home. =)

  • interesting. that could create a garden in the middle of the desert. third world countries could feed themself

  • Amen!!!!! I told myself the same thing when i first discovered this technology.

  • nice, just one thought since you now have water near that electrical outlet, maybe you should have a GFI circuit there ?

  • Great video very nicely done. please post another update. check out vidoe please as well.

  • excellent.............

  • thanks

  • Nice video, I enjoyed it.

  • Great video, I am a little apprehensive of an HID setup and am looking into a t5 flourescent setup becuase of less heat, power consumption...etc. can you give me any recomendations .

  • can you use a 600w HPS lamp in your house and plug it into a normal outlet? or do u need a special kind of outlet

  • Yes, 600w HPS lamp systems plug right into a regular 110V outlet. I would only consider systems that are UL/CSA listed.

  • I have been impressed with a Hortilux 600 watt bulb running in a Hydrofarm powerhouse ballast.

  • Make sure if you are using a timer, that you also add an relais to the system. When an HPS lamp powers up, it takes a lot of energy which the timer most of the times cant handle, and it will burn the contactpoints stuck. When adding a relais the power will go trough the relais and not trough the timer, sparing your timer and your flowers :)

  • Very helpful, thanks.

  • Gary...

The bubbles don't necessarily have to make contact with the roots. The purpose of the air pump is to simply oxygenate the nutrient solution, which will be passed on to the roots whether the bubbles touch them or not.

  • Question for Carl concerning the aeration of the water: I bought an aquarium air pump in order to supply oxygen to the water, hence essentially to the roots, but do the bubbles have to make contact with the roots? Or is simply supplying oxygen (but without bubbles making contact with the roots) to the water sufficient enough. Thanks.

  • How much wattage in regards to HIDs are used?

  • HID lamps are available in a number of different wattages. The example shown in the video is a 250 watt metal halide (home harvest . com / sbsys . htm). The energy consumption of this light would be the equivalent of 2.5 100 watt reading lamps in your home, yet the light output is approximately 500 percent more per watt of energy consumed.

  • even at 250 watts, if your running it 10 hours a day, its using 2.5 KW/hours a day, thats going to be a real drain on your electricity bill, there goes the Green enviroment

  • There are new light bulbs now with lower energy cost

  • The light bulb's shown in this are most likely metal halide. Which are more efficient then CFL's.

CFL's are around 50 lumens per watt, Metal halides are around 130 lumens per watt.

  • Its a step in the right directiong though... You have to get in you car and drive to the store and buy a bag of dried/fresh herbs etc. that were shipped to the grocery store in a transport, which burns fuel... and that came from a place that is likely growing them using hydroponics or classic farming methods... so whos being green now? i think the guy that grows his own produce cuts a few elements out of the equation. Also what if they are ran using wind power or solar power?

  • Yeah, a whole $10 per month. *rolleyes

  • And HIDs in the living room? I didn't see him going around wearing sunglasses. :)

  • can one grow large gourds this way(for art's sake)?

  • You probably can, it would just be complicated and you'd probably have to use a higher wattage HID.

  • how long do the floods need to run each feeding?

  • Between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on the capability of your timer.

  • very helpfull thanks
