  • hey i have a question great video man but i have a cedar tree that my family is cutting down because its too close to our house and this winter i was wanting to save the logs and make furniture any tips on cedar wood?

  • @sharpshooternick --- Sure. Cedar is typically fairly 'dry'.

First, cut your logs down to a manageable length (6' -10') Find a sheltered (preferably covered) area to stack the logs up off the ground and allow to cure for several months (unless this tree was already dead-standing). Leave the bark on until it dries to the point where it easily peels off...

You should be able to make some beautiful furniture with these logs within a few months.

I will post more about this process onsite soon!

  • @MrMldillman okay thank you for the info. we also have a wood burner at our house so its hard to convince my dad to let me spend time chopping up the cedar but after i get all the right sized logs out of it il stack them in a place to cure and post a video on youtube so you can tell me what you think. we are adding a deck onto our house and i told my mom i would make some log furniture for it so i hope i can do a good job if i take my time. thank you for the helpful videos there amazazing

  • @sharpshooternick --- be sure to keep an eye on my website, I'll be posting up the first of many video eCourses and Kits very soon...I'll be happy to help you with this project any way I can. =)

  • @MrMldillman - You're the worst enemy of every tasteless yuppy who likes crappy, modern furniture - and, I love that!

You do top-shelf, quality work! :)

    Take care, Man! :)

  • @classiclistener01 --- thank you, thank you, thank you!!! =) So glad you like what we are doing with all the Beetle Kill Pine we have here in Colorado!

Let me know what you need, I'm here to help you and your son make your own log furniture...HAPPY to do so!

    We'll catch ya l8r... =)

  • @MrMldillman - Thank you, my friend, and, every "REAL" outdoorsmans' friend! :)

  • You should make a set of plans available for that table. I would like to make a table like that my self...

  • @huerdon --- funny you should mention it..

The plans for this picnic table will be available on our website within the next week...or two...

There's just something about this 24 hour a day set up we've got going around here. It just never seems to leave me enough time! =)

  • SweeeeeeeeeeeeeT !!! : )

  • @bclogstairandrail Hey David, when we gonna get your picnic table plan on the site..? =) Let's chat soon.

  • great job man ;) ..... +1000 tumbs up

  • @miquelmahhhh --- +1000 thank yous back at ya =)

  • Mitchell, ya get your silver pencils in yet?

  • @FRUNTCASTER not yet. Been so busy making all this log furniture haven't had a chance...

I know, why don't ya send me a couple. lol

  • @MrMldillman - - - Message me your shipping info!

  • @FRUNTCASTER Right on, will do!

That was way too easy bro...Why don't you send me a new 576 XP while your at it...LMAO

  • @MrMldillman - - - Hahaha, naw, you don't want a 576, they're still working the bugs out'a them. A timberfaller buddy of mine had 3 in a row that wouldn't run right, and the shop couldn't figure out the problem. You need yourself a 372, or 288, or 181, or 268, or. . . Or if ya want to do the Stihl thing, do a 046/460 or 066/660. The Dolmar 7900 is a nice beastly saw as well, and have a good reputation. Stick with old iron, and you'll do fine.

  • @FRUNTCASTER --- I hear ya. And I know you know what you're talking about...I've seen your videos. You guys are falling some big pine trees up there in Montana!

Thanks again, I'll keep an eye on the mailbox for those pencils.

  • Great finish Mitchell. I have enjoyed this series.

  • @stringsbytoby Thanks! Remember, I will have the blueprints, kits and finished picnic tables and benches listed over at Log Furnitue How To .com. See you there soon!

  • Very nice!! Great job!!

  • @nanoc22 Making these picnic tables was a lot of fun! Thanks for watching...
