While there are certainly lots of female anime characters to cosplay as, there are also a lot of MALE anime characters to cosplay as such as Captain Harlock and Captain Tylor, Jin Roh Legend of the Wolfe Brigade, Spriggan and that's not even including giant robots from Mobile Suit Gundam.

@digitalmckracken Okay you are correct I was indeed wrong about Cosplaying. But I don't understand how men trying to be women is not gay? When a man surgically removes his penis and takes hormones to be a woman, this is gay yes?

Mystified, ok lets set the record straight, if a man decides he 'should have been born a woman and was living in the wrong body', and thus goes out and physically "changes" himself, to herself permanently through surgery... the man (now permanently a woman) would have probably been attracted to men all along and yet did not want to act on those urges because those urges were in fact "homosexual" urges. This is why He (now "She") feels more confident when dating men.
@Mystified012 ... after the surgery, it does not feel "wrong" (or homosexual) any more to date men, I suppose it would feel correct, right or normal to date members of the opposite sex because by all accounts that person would consider herself to be (and would want others to consider her as a) "female" or "transsexual" and no longer "a male".
So I think they still would consider themselves "straight" and date men even after the surgery because they are considered female...so, no, its not gay.

I suppose its more about whats going on inside their heads and what they are feeling inside about who they are really supposed to be on the inside but being a woman doesn't really dictate their sexual preference because even after the surgery they can still decide they want to be with a woman and be "gay" or lesbian or be with a man and be "straight".
