You should mention that a common problem is that people will expect the INSERT key light to go out after putting in the N co-ordinate so they will press the button twice to make it go out, then they cannot enter the W co-ordinate.
The INSERT light will NOT go out after you enter the N co-ordinate, so just press it only ONCE, leave it lighted, then enter the W co-ordinate..then press INSERT again and the light will go out and the co-ordinate will be properly entered. I found out the hard way.
I've linked the 4 part tutorial in an article about the CS707 since there are some nuances between that and the L-1011. Check fs9blog dot com for more details.
Hi, Would it be possible for you to translate this Flight Plan into propper INS Co-ordinates so i can upload them straight to my Concorde INS, as i am a little confused how to upload the shorter waypoints to the INS, Thanks in Advance
nice .... for me .. Im only 14 .. hoping to become a pilot soon ... I couldent wait until I be a pilot ... so I began studying privatly ... parts of the PPL-FAA .. importment things like detonation and sectional charts + flight planning .. things like MH+RB=MB .... but I puted my lights on in the CPL more than the PPL ..I almost compleat the CPL now from books ....... and readed 5 chapters from the JAA ATPL Intermentations and electronics book ... so what do you really advice me to do ?
Well I tried to follow these steps but for some reason I cannot enter the longtitude position at the beginning, it just puts latitude in and then when clicking E or W does not light up the insert key.....
but these informations are old, new planes don't use numbers, infact they use there new FMC, is this facility avalable today in real airports? and how could real pilots know the pos of waypoints without knowing it's name?
@fawii but now most commercial aircraft also have ins but the name is different and it is much more modernised the system is called a FMC (Flight. Management. Computer)
This tutorial is great. I spend hours trying to learn how to use the INS, read lots of PDFs and practiced allot to understand how to use it. I wish I had found this tutorial earlier. I am now using the INS without problems, but judging on my experience I REALLY RECOMMEND THIS TUTORIAL TO OTHERS, especially beginners.
RE: "you should always use HDG mode" (Fabo0315 @A319CROATIA)
---------------
HDG stands for Heading (only): it is not a true navigation mode, but is of some value to aid in dead reckoning. If you select HDG mode, you lose ALL of your coordinate precision, and you can't get it back with TACAN: you have to start over from a full stop.
C-IV allows in-flight TACAN update of position, which may improve accuracy; however, as with all inertial systems, the C-IV is subject to degradation of precision relative to how long the unit has been in the Nav mode.
The system is heavily mechanical, but reasonably well thought-out and engineered.
@blub77 thanks for fast reply and information, but just one thing. I done everithing you showed in tutorial but my aircraft is nit going to a waypoint as itt should be going. He manage turn inbound waypoint but not going in right direction to it, when i want to change direct to another waypoint he also make turn but not on proper heading to it. I fly on dreamfleet 727 and delco carousel INS version 1.51
@A319CROATIA You should normally use HDG mode and set the INS NAV switches to UP on whichever unit you want to use. I use INS with DF727 all the time and it works great. Drop me a message and I can go through it with you.
Please help, Blub77, i went to heathrow at runway 9L or R and i got N51 27.89, and theres not enough room on the screen for it, and for the W i got W029.15. Pleasee reply!
I took the Position from the FS2004. It displays the current position of the Aircraft when pushing Shift+Z. This differs a bit from the Position of the Airport which is written on the right side in the video discription..
In case no one has posted this...the red warning light comes on during align because the INS has been moved from its last position when the sim was running. Realism. If you start the sim from the position you finished it from last, you will not get the warning. How many of you knew that??
@Gozza34 I did. I read something about this in some other tutorials/documentation (don't really remember).
It happened to me once, that saving the game with the plane at the ramp. After continuing the game some other day, I hat a deviation of 10 minutes in the longitude. Only on the INS1 - INS2 and INS3 where on the current position. I am not sure however, how that INS1 jumped 10 minutes to the North. I didn't care much, because I used INS2 for Nav. But the Issue Itself intrigued me.

There is no AIRAC. It's a system independet of such changes. You just programm in LAT/LONG Coordinates of Wapoints.

In the current version, the CIVA INS 'tolerates' slight forward movement, so you CAN align it with engines on.
