The exception is Blomkvist because he is weirdly asexual, not because he doesn't have sex but because he isn't victimizing the lead gender from their differences in genders, hence he is not sexually obsessive towards Salander but the only safe sex, like a condom :)
This subtext might've been picked up by Cronenberg and explained as "weird" in tone because the stacking up on the theme of "Men that hate women", where female-male conflict exists to channel the misogyny instead of discussing it.
You could guess in what way Cronenberg thought it was "weird". Not weird like he can contribute to. Considering the original title, Stieg Larsson's theme makes the story to be much like a rape and revenge plot within a murder mystery. Let me make the assumptions necessary, every male character that the lead get into contact with is supposed to create "weird" tension to show how vulnerable her gender is, how damaged she became from being female.
every man in the book is a rapist or a mysoginist? what book he read? so for him palgrem, blomkvist, armansky and Henrik are the same as Martin and Bjurman? He's a talented director I love "history of violence" but I'm so glad he didn't direct the American version. Making a film adaptation of a book like this specially after the swedish version was popular takes GUTS and this guy doesn't seem to have them.
"every man in the movie is a misogynist or a rapist, literally. I mean every man you met you knew was going to try and rape the lead girl character."
you mean Martin, Gottfried and Bjurman? what about Armansky, Henrik, Frode, Morell, Plague, Palmgren, Malm and Blomkvist? I don't seem to recall them wanting to rape anyone.
"and he [Blomkvist] is kind of asexual in a weird way"
Blomkvist is a lady killer who ends up sleeping with every female in the story. quite different from asexual.

The man who directed Crash says TGWTDT is weird? LOL
And obviously he hasn't read the book or seen the original movie.

Did Cronenberg even read the book? It sure sounds he doesn't know what he's talking about... :S

Cronenberg would have made an interesting interpretation of the film, but I'm glad Fincher took it
