The ultimate disco band - the mix on this performance is quite frankly SHIT, there are much better vids on here of the best disco track band of the 70's
This is one of the best concerts that I have ever viewed. Chic has a high level of energy combined with excellent music. I have watched this video over and over again!
I agreee with chasplaybasss. I'm a bassplayer and one of the most important issues when you are palying somebody else's song is to make it sound like the song itself, but put something in it that it's yours.
Never heard so much crap in my life, some of the comments. Sighs.
The drummer Omar Hakeem is exceptional.
The Bass player Mr Barnes, is unbelievable.
On a whole the band work together like clockwork. If you don't agree you are pedantic and/or have shit in your ears. Start listening to this on a proper set.
@Hannibalscousin Love your comments...totally on point...In lieu of having the actual personal that recorded the original versions of these songs, this CHIC is amazing...Nile is without peer, and he is fronting some fantastic singers and musicians...The negative comments are from people obviously have no idea of how hard it is to duplicate, note for note, the amazing originals...This band is Fantastic on ANY scale!!
Nods to Winpointmedia. Bernard deserves all shout-outs and no his shoes can't be filled. However, Jerry's a great bass player and has to be applauded the way he put his neck out filling Edward's lines on stage and contributed keeping the CHIC-legacy alive. They are missed.
Yeah thats a no win to step into Bernards slot but at least he's not trying to imitate Bernard. He has his own plucking technique - may need to be a little cleaner/defined , tempo should be up more - but overall the group still sounds good he stays in the pocket which is key.
The thing with Omar is he's a phenomenal drummer...just not quite right for Chic..I remeber hearing Chic live at the Budokan with Bernard on bass and omar on drums and while it was good the groove just wasnt quite the same.
I like this but I saw the "classic" Chic several times. No comparison. This band sounds more like a show band, the groove is diffrent. He found some gorgeous women for his group. I'd love to see him reunite with the three original leads for Chic: Norma Jean, Luci, and Alfa..I bet it will never happen. Peace to Tony and Bernard...
I've been gone from this thread for too long. TO the person who said he should have just fingered the line... it CANNOT be played with your fingers if you want the right feel and sound. You MUST use Bernard's chucking technique. But I agree, you CANNOT replace Bernard OR Tony. Omar does a good job at holding the groove, but few can fill Bernard's shoes.
Bernard Edwards and Tony were awesome, never to be replaced. But, I think Hakim's take on the song was good. It's pretty unfair to compare musicians. I mean, why should we? The bassist does struggle a bit though. Let's try enjoy the 'present'.
What the hell!! that sure as hell aint the Chic I know, the bassist isnt even playing the right bloody bassline (no, the intro isnt supposed to be double thumbed and would it kill him to even play the right bassline for the verses not a dumbed down version?) Omar Hakim is a great drummer but he's totally the wrong style for this...man I miss Bernard and Tony, on the plus side though..those girls are hot!!
From a bass forum, "Everybody Dance is such a tough bassline. Even Jerry Barnes who plays bass in the reformed Chic, and is an awesome player, has to play this one at a reduced tempo." and "There's an audio clip somewhere of Edwards saying that many professional bass players, some virtuoso, saying 'how on earth do you play that bass link [Everybody Dance]?' as it just left them astounded. "
Oh my god I can't help posting again...Jerry Barnes thinks a whole lot of himself to call up Niles as a replacement for Bernard. The singers are hitting some foul notes towards the end. Instead of sounding like Chic it sounds like a wedding band trying to play a Chic song.
You are 100% right. Chic's rhythm section was the best around, bar none. Bernard & Tony are SORELY missed. But Jerry & Omar are both exceptional players, and we can only hope that this was just an off night
i dont know what you were refering to, but i just saw your line "groovemaster bernard",I always feel happy when people praise Bernard, cause like bernard and tony...NO ONE, AND I MEAN NO ONE.
The bass player sound RAGGEDY. He should just fingered it. I bought the DVD, its nice but the best thing going for it is the new chocolate singer. The percussionist acts like he's on crack.
The whole problem is that omar is overplayin, the bass isn't locking, the mix is awsfull... they all make too generic ! CHIC is CHIC, not some average funkage
I miss Tony Thompson and Bernard Edwards groove machine. That rhythm section was the best of the 70's. Every time you heard 'em you could'nt help but bob yo head. ...Is that Omar Hakim on drums?
No disrespect to Jerry Barnes, but he totally blew the bass intro. I had the blessing to have met Bernard during his rehearsals for the tour to Japan where he died. He was gracious enough to teach me his "chucking" technique that he used to play that classic bassline. Trust me, it's NOT easy.
You're not being disrepectful because it's true. Right there before the band kicks in...he kind of peters out. You are one lucky dude to have met my hero Bernard!
Always wondered how he died....pnuemonia? Seems strange..
Not bad , but in no way has the feel of the original 70's groove. That sends a shiver down my spine every time i listen to it. This gives me nothing. In no way am i dissin the band chic, but the original line up to me are the true chic and always will be! chic the DISCO sound!
You are right, the original band was the best. However with Tony Thompson and Bernard Edwards both gone to the great beyond, well this is all that's left.
great funky guitar, exceptional drumming, nice bass-lines, wonderful tunes, no boring solos, beautiful voices, sexy dresses - nobody needs more

Where is Alfa Anderson and Luci Martin? These women are attractive, and they sound OK. But they aint Alfa and Luci.
Does anyone remember the ORIGINAL Chic? The ORIGINAL Chic would have NEVER took to the stage dressed like these people did.
Niles should know better.

u mean anderson and martin r d original members of chic... no wonder these girls look young... coz chic been singing since 1978...
