Oh and one more thing,......FINALLY getting to see Terry Adam's this January 21st 2010 in Raleigh NC at the Berkeley Cafe. He and his band The Terry Adam's Rock and Roll Quartet will be performing there and I just can't wait to see them. They don't come down south very often so this is gonna be a real life long dream of seeing him and his cronies lay down the groove LIVE! WOOPEEEE!!!!
Får tilbake litt tru på norsk ungdom når eg les dette! NRBQ spelte på Vikateateret i Oslo ca 86-87, tippar far eller mor di var der. Fantastisk konsert!
The great and passionate keyboard man for NRBQ lives in a wonderful world midway between Brubeck and Jelly Roll. If you understand jazz you'll understand the intentional dissonant notes he and Big Al sometimes play. Note Big Al applauding him for the solo at song's end. Great stuff.
Sorry, with all due respect, I just dont see it, but this coming from a gtr player who sweats every nt to play like EVH or Lamb of God. I c how these guys can b fun at a frat party, "no rules" thingy, but the dissonant nature frags my shredder sensibilities. I respect the talent it takes to play, it just doesnt "jive" with my ear. Its got an arrogance to it. A "we're so good we can play like crap and still be in synch." So what. Nice hair though. lol
Boomclack-Big NRBQ fan here, but that was an interesting take. I really like your remark about how its got an arrogance about it, I think your right on the mark, it really does have a arrogance about it. Funny how thats what I like about them the keyboard player in particular. Some of his dissonance comes from heavy jazz study and chordal crazyness etc. Its an aquired taste to be sure. Cheers
@Boomclack I'd hardly call it playing like crap. Their syncopation and and dissonance is a lot more interesting to that than a big barrage of consecutive 16th notes. Not to much Joey and Tommy serve as a dynamic rhythm section
Your life your tastes, but I'd hardly dismiss these guys as playing like crap
Agree that NRBQ is one of the greatest "unsung" r'n'roll bands of all time. "Big Al" Anderson, Terry Williams, Joey Spampinato, &Tom Ardolino were just f'in great!!!
Brings back great memories of college in New England. These guys were a hit everytime they came thru town. I am trying to inspire my kids with this REAL music
I do not think the NRBQ ever once worried about what the critics would say about their music, they just played because they loved it. Don't you wish more bands thought that way?
I been all over the Youtube NRBQ clips like stink on...well you get the idea; I think this is my favorate of the bunch. I just can't get enough of this one, the way Joey and Tommy put in that subtle back beat in the song is just masterful. Of course Big Al is well BIG and great, and Terry needs no introduction I guess. Man long live the Q. BTW, I just got from their web sight a Euro NRBQ sticker so I can proudly display my love of all things Q
Yowza!

God bless Tom, the most swinginest mother to ever assault a drum kit. RIP.

Tom Ardolino could well be the most overlooked drummer in rock, but he is truly outstanding and has been from day one.
