@soccerchick43001 The footage of the woman with the short dark hair who is seen dancing, etc., is from a short film by General Motors called "Design for Dreaming." You can watch it on YouTube.
The footage of the woman on the bus is from something else, but I'm not sure what. Hope this helps.

JUST FOUND SOME PETER GABRIEL RECORDS MADE WAY BACK IN 1980 I THINK. 9 YEARS BEFORE I WAS EVEN BORN HAHA! ANYWAYS IM DEFINATELY GONNA SAMPLE SOME OF HIS MELDOYS FOR HIPHOP TRACKS! AWESOME MUSIC.
me, Catrese and Heather all in Scott's Spyder riding back from Omar's . . . just got the 'cassette' and we had a great night esp me - sooo crazy over the man who wound up taking a piece of my heart - tonight this song is for someone else but - wow the memories . . .
In PHOTOGRAHY using The Popular Song?..(at it's intro/Fox!Rock'sCzar!)...you know how many millions would claim Ownership of a woman, the glory of his flesh...they teach us not to say anything but to excercize warrants using The Spirit!..The Power(s) of Communion!..(Americans in our presence NOW Post 911-I hope that this doesn't take the ship down"") and "now" nearly 15 trillion in deficit!...laugh pete.."oh won't you come and take my hand" from out of a nightmare into The Universal Dream! Yea!
this song goes out to the girl that stole my heart in Panama City Beach, Florida who i'll probably never see for the rest of my life :( heartache is only imaginary ache but it hurts the most...
In your eyes.... there is no greater tribute to a poet than to have thousands of voices singing your words to you in harmony.... I find it amazing that more artist haven't busted out in tears when their fans sing the song to them!!!!!!!!!!
Wonderful song... My family played it for my father's funeral. Since it was the last song he saw live in a concert and that he heard on the radio, the emotion was just incredible, but also relieving thanks to the music and the words. RIP Father. I miss you so much...

In the 80's I had a girlfriend from South Africa I sang this song to,she went onto sing in the band Peach Union our love was not to be, I wish her well.
Last fall I posted this comment: "My ex-wife and I were dating when this came out. Sad but fond memories. We divorced in the 90s and she is gone now." A few of you posted some warm heartfelt responses and I wanted to thank you all for the kind sentiments.
WOW, listening to the real emotive demigod, Gabriel, while reading comments of the imagined one (JC) who never walked on our planet.
Briefly, on the jesus-myth and "christ-mas": the bible can't even get the birth date right (gospel accounts differ by at least 10 yrs!) - ditto for the town (bethlehem v. galilee) & JC's supposed lineage(s) from David (lol). The "virgin birth" the goofy nativity story (unknown to Mark), like most of the gospels, is pure fiction.
Well, the Roman record of the census perfromed by Ceasar Agustus (who history does know lots about ) happened in early april , as counted from april 1, to the 10th, in that region of the world. the written event of Christs birth does seem to correspond with legitimate historical events. Though finding that kind of thing would require actually doing research, and not just taking the bible as the only written scource. which it seems you accuse everyone else of doing.
I have written an Essay on the complete lack of historical evidence for bible-jesus, based on months of study... the absence of which is devestating to "believers".
The unimpeachable Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965) spend DECADES researching his "Quest" for the historical jesus and concluded the demi-god NEVER EXISTED.
Philo (20BCE-50CE), the preeminent historian and a contemporary in both time and place writes not a single word of him!
However, the census event mentioned in the book of Luke , did in fact happen, and is held in historic documents. So is the existence of Pilate, Ciaphas, King Herod, Paul of Tarsus, and Paul of Tarsus, went around and interviewed all of these people who DID claim to have met and seen said Jesus, and all of their stories corroborated. Your argument is flawed to think that just cause no historical account directly mentioned someone fails to disprove said individuals existence. And Im the sceptic.
Guy Guy claims skepticism, then makes an absurd analogy to his liver... which is brute fact, completely unlike the imagined jesus, inhabiting his indoctrinated brain.
Robert M Price, a Professor of Theology mocks as "special pleading" christians who claim god status for their alleged savior, versus the precursors like: Osiris, Tammuz, Baal, Attis, Adonis, Hercules, Asclepius... just to name a few.
There is nothing unique in the jesus mythology... including those who follow blindly.
One more thing, Im not uneducated, I studied philosophy and religion at Harvard. AND, I am more of a sceptic than you. Though I have never seen my own liver, I know it exists, I have a little more experience of the existence of god, than I do my own liver, so where does that leave the great sceptic?
"The Synoptic Gospels employ techniques that we today associate with fiction." -Paul Q. Beeching, Central Connecticut State University
"We know virtually nothing about the persons who wrote the gospels we call Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John."... ..."But the gnostic Christians rejected Luke's theory. Some gnostics called the literal view of resurrection the 'faith of fools'." -Dr. Elaine Pagels, Professor of Religion at Princeton University
I have spoken with Elaine Pagels at length about all of this, and, she still to the end claims that Jesus was in fact divine, so, I suppose you could only use part of her argument there.
American iconoclastic orator and withering critic of religious hypocrisy, Col. Robert Green Ingersoll, ("The Gods", 1872):
"It has always seemed to me that a being coming from another world, with a message of infinite importance to mankind, should at least have verified that message by his own signature. Is it not wonderful that not one word was written by Christ?"
Guy-guy: believe whatever you wish - it matters not at all - the Universe unfolds oblivious to your supernatural musings.
So, you are very good at taking the parts of an argument, that you agree with, but leaving the rest out. And, well, I suppose you think you are to impress with quotes from other people, now thats original, what "Other" people come up with, let me ask you this, aside from your beef with god, and said individuals followers, of something only imaginary. What is the square root of negative 1?
Moncure D. Conway [1832 - 1907], a Harvard University graduate, Minister, abolitionist and scholar. "The world has been for a long time engaged in writing lives of Jesus... The library of such books has grown since then. But when we come to examine them, one startling fact confronts us: all of these books relate to a personage concerning whom there does not exist a single scrap of contemporary information -- not one!''
By accepted tradition he was born in the reign of Augustus, the great literary age of the nation of which he was a subject.... In the Augustan age historians flourished; poets, orators, critics and travelers abounded. Yet not one mentions the name of Jesus Christ, much less any incident in his life."
Guy... because apart from Pagels, Scweitzer... Reimarus, Bauer... Ingersoll and many others, I attained my perspective on the backs of these scholars, whom I (vs your arrogance) acknowledge.
you know, you have proven your point, and that point is, that you have a large cadre of scholars who you like to refer to pointing out that you dont think Jesus existed. But, you know something else? I have a large Frank Zappa mp3 collection, that far dwarfs your list of sources for your argument. Now, I never met, nor saw, or heard Zappa with my own ears, but, I heard lots of recordings of his, read books, etc, and met loads of people who saw him. Kinda like the gospel writers and Jesus.
YES Guy... you are finally correct... I have indeed proven my point. But once again, you're guilty of yet another bogus (liver) analogy (Zappa).
The unknown "gospel" writters were not in any way contempories with the elusive god-man, who, like your abstract number set, is pure mythos.
Take on whatever religious contruct (hundreds to choose from) that meets your needs. I jettisoned my religious indoctrination long ago, and I am atheistic to just one more religion than you: yours.
Go STUDY the burned-by-the-church-fathers critiques by intellectuals Celsus & Prophyry... the impeccable works of scholar Robert M Price... Schweitzer's calssic "Historical Quest"... Bruno Bauer's exhaustive research... the lectures of Professor Bart Ehrmann (UNC's Chair of Religious Studies)... Earl Doherty ("jesus puzzles")... Freke & Gandy ("jesus mysteries")... Bishop J. S. Spong... Prof Gerd Lundeman... Dr. of Divinity J. D. Crossan... then get back to me.
WAIT, do you think that you could convince me that Jesus never existed by citing all these sources or something? WOW, truly fascinating, I dont know where I ever conveyed the thought to you that your point actually meant anything, other than you can cite people. I apologize sincerely for making you think that I might have actually put some sort of credit to your rantings of pseudo intellectuality, please forgive me for wherever I let that thought present itself as fact to you.
No indeed; He wasn't. Mithra, the Persian god of the sun was. The early church decided to "Christianize" the pagans by making it the official celebration of Jesus' birth. I'm not sure Jesus would've approved. I rather doubt it.
I'm with you on this one, Peter got Dijalma Correa from Bahia, Brazil to lay down the groove for this and other songs on this album, one of the best albuns ever. Long Live Peter.
She was from Magdelene and spoke to Christ which was taboo, as it is now in the mid- east, to speak to men.
Nowhere does it say Mary was a whore...
I think Pete read into this and wrote this song. History is not new. Only to those who are just now discovering it... Yadda yadda, I know. Not the point. But love points at anyone...
I could be wrong, but did Gabriel re-sing some of the lyrics on this version? His voice sounds different in some parts. Especially the part.."I drive off in my car."
this is my fav song...sometimes they just hit the nail right on the head!...think PG just did that in this song...this song will NEVER be forgotten...
No song I have ever heard speaks so clearly, succinctly, and beautifully about finding that true connection. "The resolution of all my fruitless searches"
My sincere condolences, brother. I cannot imagine the conflicting emotions you are experiencing. Sounds like you still loved her even though you divorced. My wife and were nearly divorced about 5 years ago. Glad we didn't go through with it because we were still in love. We just needed to grow up and stop being selfish. I pray that you find some measure of inner peace, and perhaps now, you have found someone to share your life with. No one deserves to be alone. God's love to you, brother.
No one's ever alone. Hear/feel, look for the eyes of God. So when you feel alone, let that be the first step toward God. Break with pain, stop suffering, embrace LOVE which is God. Your love, any love, Pure love GOD's love. Love is Life, Life is Love God is all included Love. Forget the past...you are not your past!
Oh shit. I'm terribly sorry, I didn't notice your message was reply to wildkrrd, I thought it was just random comment and didn't get the point... Forgive my rudeness...
@squeakersbg Really bad eh? But it felt good at the time, getting tired of all the tiny disturbances expressed here on youtube. My advise: don't take it personal. And no box will fit anyone any way,. No problems with Christians, nor any other religion. Just make life joy full, works best when you add love to it. Peace
@carabidus Thanks you. One thing about the web: you can express yourself and know that there are people out there who understand what you are talking about. Thank you for the warm sentiments.
@carabidus Good Godly insight , and may the Lord bless you and continue to bless your marriage!!! Good to read awesome posts written by those who love God!!!
@Metaldog67 Thanks, Dog. Even though we were apart 10 years before she passed, I think in a small way I still loved her. But hopefully she is at peace now.
@wildkrrd I can relate. God bless you and your ex for what you had together. At least you had it. I am now divorced and my ex will not probably be around long with her behavior. Life is about change, loss and the opportunity to grow and sprout new wings of grace.
@wildkrrd Some more a month ago I lost a very special friend. He never tooked me seriously so I keep my distance from him. And now as your ex wife, he's gone too. Maybe didn't ever know what were my real feeling for him. I'm sorry fela.
This is a beautiful song... and the lyrics oh well only for those who have been there.. know what thats like.. enjoy it and feel it through your veins...
Plus, he's just.... ugly.. Especially at the begining. And if you people prefer Darren Hayes version, why don't you go LISTEN to that version instead of saying on this version? Makes sense, right?
I love this version, although I like Darren's more, I still really like this one.
most originals are always better but some others can surpass originals. such as seether's "Broken" with amy lee which was way better than the original.
No it's not...the thing is it's difficult to compare them, because the versions are almost polar opposites. Hayes's version is very minimalist in its instrumentation, and is overall very straightforward, while Gabriel's version, both recorded and live, places emphasis on much more layered vocal arrangements, the African-style backing rhythm, and, of course, Yossou N'Dour.
You could argue that Hayes's version does more to get to the essence of the song, but at the same time, the song's essence is centered much more on the rhythm and chorus that carry it, with its basic chord structure actually being pretty simple and repetitive.
So in that sense, I'd argue that Hayes's version misses the most important elements of the song, instead doing too much to focus on the less essential elements. So I have to go with the Peter Gabriel version.
darren hayes has the better voice no doubt and injects more emotion into his version which ppl can feel & relate to. this version is good but darren hayes' is great.
another song version that surpasses the original is seether's "broken" version with amy lee. Fact!
But the thing is that the vocals in Hayes's version are too disconnected from the song itself, making the whole thing feel rather disjointed. There's emotion in the lyrics, yes, but for emotion to really carry, you need a good flow to the vocals structured around the music itself, which Hayes's version doesn't accomplish so well.
Some songs can be done incredibly well in such a style, yes. I'm just saying, when it's tried with this song the whole thing sort of falls apart.
I think taht darrem version is most for a soundtrack of a romantic movie, but i like more this version, the etnic style is diferent from other music, and I LOVE IT...
...great Peter...I've seen him with Genesis so long ago, and I've follow his course and evolution in the music...a rare case of a complete artist...great, great, great!!

Ordinary love is selfish, darkly rooted in desires and satisfactions. Divine love is without condition, without boundary, without change. The flux of the human heart is gone forever at the transfixing touch of pure love.
One of life's greatest mysteries is why Peter didn't include this on his 1990 Shaking the Tree collection.

All expose your jesus as myth
NooGods 1 year ago
WAIT, do you think that you could convince me that Jesus never existed by citing all these sources or something? WOW, truly fascinating, I dont know where I ever conveyed the thought to you that your point actually meant anything, other than you can cite people. I apologize sincerely for making you think that I might have actually put some sort of credit to your rantings of pseudo intellectuality, please forgive me for wherever I let that thought present itself as fact to you.

Is there anywhere in the bible that Jesus was born on 25th Dec - nope
heavenscents100 2 years ago
@heavenscents100
No indeed; He wasn't. Mithra, the Persian god of the sun was. The early church decided to "Christianize" the pagans by making it the official celebration of Jesus' birth. I'm not sure Jesus would've approved. I rather doubt it.

Christ and Mary...
Read....
Mary was NOT a whore.

Just wondering.

R.I.P. babygirl. U will not be forgotten.
wildkrrd 2 years ago 116
My sincere condolences, brother. I cannot imagine the conflicting emotions you are experiencing. Sounds like you still loved her even though you divorced. My wife and were nearly divorced about 5 years ago. Glad we didn't go through with it because we were still in love. We just needed to grow up and stop being selfish. I pray that you find some measure of inner peace, and perhaps now, you have found someone to share your life with. No one deserves to be alone. God's love to you, brother.
carabidus 2 years ago 90
No one's ever alone. Hear/feel, look for the eyes of God. So when you feel alone, let that be the first step toward God. Break with pain, stop suffering, embrace LOVE which is God. Your love, any love, Pure love GOD's love. Love is Life, Life is Love God is all included Love. Forget the past...you are not your past!

Peace

Plus, he's just.... ugly.. Especially at the begining. And if you people prefer Darren Hayes version, why don't you go LISTEN to that version instead of saying on this version? Makes sense, right?
I love this version, although I like Darren's more, I still really like this one.

juliasteen95 2 years ago 2
i've heard gabriels version and still agree darren hayes did it 1000 times better!!!!
kenjinator 2 years ago
No it's not...the thing is it's difficult to compare them, because the versions are almost polar opposites. Hayes's version is very minimalist in its instrumentation, and is overall very straightforward, while Gabriel's version, both recorded and live, places emphasis on much more layered vocal arrangements, the African-style backing rhythm, and, of course, Yossou N'Dour.
KenQing 2 years ago
You could argue that Hayes's version does more to get to the essence of the song, but at the same time, the song's essence is centered much more on the rhythm and chorus that carry it, with its basic chord structure actually being pretty simple and repetitive.
So in that sense, I'd argue that Hayes's version misses the most important elements of the song, instead doing too much to focus on the less essential elements. So I have to go with the Peter Gabriel version.
KenQing 2 years ago
darren hayes has the better voice no doubt and injects more emotion into his version which ppl can feel & relate to. this version is good but darren hayes' is great.
another song version that surpasses the original is seether's "broken" version with amy lee. Fact!
kenjinator 2 years ago
But the thing is that the vocals in Hayes's version are too disconnected from the song itself, making the whole thing feel rather disjointed. There's emotion in the lyrics, yes, but for emotion to really carry, you need a good flow to the vocals structured around the music itself, which Hayes's version doesn't accomplish so well.
Some songs can be done incredibly well in such a style, yes. I'm just saying, when it's tried with this song the whole thing sort of falls apart.
KenQing 2 years ago
I think taht darrem version is most for a soundtrack of a romantic movie, but i like more this version, the etnic style is diferent from other music, and I LOVE IT...
