This was my favorite Mario game of all time. It was peaceful/beautiful, large worlds, you cleaned pollution, and everyone had fun doing so :D

Also my excuse to play when I wasn't supposed was "I am learning that cleaning pollution is a good thing" and I got to play (worked 20% of the time xD)

I remember when I use to play Super Mario Sunshine. I was around 7-8 years old being stuck in my room from 12:00 pm-10:00pm. All they long trying to beat this damn game. Even though I couldn't beat the game, it was still pretty fun to play. This brings back so many fond child memories:) BTW I'm almost 16!!

I felt like Delfino Isle had more to offer than the ever-expanding amount of space in Super Mario Galaxy. Go figure! Really though, this game was a masterpiece. It was so challenging, the story was somewhat interesting, the shine spites were actually fun to earn unlike the chore-like feeling in Mario Galaxy 1 and 2.

Wind Waker is one of the greatest games ever made, Super Mario Sunshine was an incredible successor to Super Mario 64 (much like Majora's Mask after OOT on the N64), Luigi's Mansion, SSB Melee, Mario Party 4 and 5 were amazing fun, Resident Evil 4 was revolutionary, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat was a crazy experience, Paper Mario 2 was nice (however, not close to what Paper Mario achieved for the N64), among many other gr8 games.

Super Mario Sunshine is the most underrated Mario game of all time.  I personally put it in the top 5 Mario games of all time; the gameplay is addictive, the music fits every scene very well, and did I mention the music?

My friends' all hated this game and their only reasoning behind it was that you couldn't punch stuff and the watergun changed the feel of the game from the 64 version.

I'd say the watergun just adds a different element to the game; a nice change of pace.

Now that I think of it... what the hell was with Nintendo and water during the Gamecube/GBA era? Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald explored the Hoenn region which had a great amount of water routes and introduced a diving mechanic, Super Mario Sunshine had a tropical setting with a lot of beaches and obviously using new water mechanics with F.L.U.D.D., and Wind Waker had Link exploring the Great Sea by sailing.

... Not necessarily saying that was a bad thing, of course. :)

@MonochromePixel I never thought of that. I suppose those were all established franchises, and when you have one of those you always have to progress with each generation. Super Mario 64 was the perfect 3D platformer, and Nintendo didn't want to remake it, so the next one was in water with an awesome water gun robot. Pokemon continued on to get a space motif, along with Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, and I suppose Zelda went on to the whole shadow world mechanic. Water was just the moderate middle step.
