  • I went to a church singing tonight at the Children's Home in Mount Dora, Florida. The song leader read the story of "Precious Lord" a song I'd sung for years. I can never sing it the same way again. Thank God men with such talents can share their gifts for generations to come. Redemption, friends, what can be sweeter than that?

  • @CofCGuy Why can you not sing it the same again?

  • @utopianconstruction Because I now have a deeper appreciation for the author and the emotion he employed when writing the song.

  • What was it about his reading of the story that changed your perception?

    The emotion?

I think I know what you mean.

  • It's amazing how music in the church has evolved. But what's sad is that we as Christians are still the same when it comes to that. Just as he was not accepted in a lot of churches then, their are Christian artist that aren't accepted today. Mainly Christian rappers. From Dorsey to Cleveland to the Winans and Commissioned. None were accepted at first. Then of course Kirk Franklin. We as Christians are only holding ourselves back from receiving all God has for us.

  • When you've been blessed with many years and through many trials, I guess there is so much you can give and he gave it all.

  • I believe that good songs are birthed out of one's personal experiences. That is part of the reason Prof. Dorsey was able to write songs that touch the heart decades later. Good songs are timeless.

  • Thank you for posting this clip of Professor Dorsey. He was a very spiritual man and the world has not yet grasped the full extent of his contribution to gospel music and religion!
