Every time I hear Thomas Dorsey sing I'm blessed. Thank God he's not like this so-call
gospel singing of this day and age that has no Holy Spirit in their music what soever, with their pants hang down and rapping, and the females with all of their unmentionable showing, God is not please.
you never too young or old to learn gospel music. Its good to know your history of gospel music in the early years of gospel. I thank those gospel singers who paved the way. sing on and may your songs live on. amen!
@pastoremurray Thank God for the First people to spread the Gospel like Thomas Dorsey, Mahalia Jackson, and so many more. We still have poeple who wants to keep the music going. Type in Mahalia Jackson by Marie Guillian. Thomas Dorsey is Gods gift to the world of how to spread the word of God to everyone.
I went to a church singing tonight at the Children's Home in Mount Dora, Florida. The song leader read the story of "Precious Lord" a song I'd sung for years. I can never sing it the same way again. Thank God men with such talents can share their gifts for generations to come. Redemption, friends, what can be sweeter than that?
It's amazing how music in the church has evolved. But what's sad is that we as Christians are still the same when it comes to that. Just as he was not accepted in a lot of churches then, their are Christian artist that aren't accepted today. Mainly Christian rappers. From Dorsey to Cleveland to the Winans and Commissioned. None were accepted at first. Then of course Kirk Franklin. We as Christians are only holding ourselves back from receiving all God has for us.
AMEN AMEN & AMEN plus those artists you have mentioned all of them are my favorite artists keep on strivin on the straight & narrow n ill b praying 4 u
I've been here crying and praying. Some people like Mr. Dorsey has such an impact on the individual. There is a connection to God for sure that happened here in my living room as I was listening to precious lord over and over again by many different artist. Staying power is what this song has. My Lord Jesus Please Take my hand and lead me on. Amen
I believe that good songs are birthed out of one's personal experiences. That is part of the reason Prof. Dorsey was able to write songs that touch the heart decades later. Good songs are timeless.
Thank you for posting this clip of Professor Dorsey. He was a very spiritual man and the world has not yet grasped the full extent of his contribution to gospel music and religion!
Thank you SOOOOOO much, Thomas!

@utopianconstruction Because I now have a deeper appreciation for the author and the emotion he employed when writing the song.

What was it about his reading of the story that changed your perception?
The emotion?
