  • That's it! God's punishing the hosts by making them all go bald. It's just a matter of time before the ladies go bald too. When they do, we'll have proof of God.

  • That mike guy is a fucking scum bag.

  • Is the beating of slaves even relevant? Owning slaves by itself is immoral. The bible states owning slaves are ok, is it? if no, the bibel is not a literal book of moral law. If yes, well, no comment

  • The best part is that 99.9% of modern day christians would be advocating the death penalty if a man raped a daughter of theirs yet alone ask him to marry her LOL

  • The caller that didn't know what a Jew was illustrates how that due to Fox and friends Christians don't realize that the Israelis think their religion and it's lead prophet are full of shit.

  • This Mike from Detroit isn't that bright.

A big flaw these bible-thumpers have is the belief of acting because the bible says so yet they cherry pick. This rule is good and we'll follow it, but this one and that one doesn't exist.

  • greg sounds like he's jerking off as he is talking...anyone else?

  • @janjust i would to if tracie was actually talking to me

  • Best AE joke yet.

"You've basically called a bunch of atheists to ask why Jews don't believe in Jesus."

It could almost be a Monty Python skit.

    Brilliant.

  • free will does not exist

  • I'm sorry, but Matt should just field all of the questions. Tracie is obviously an intelligent person, but she lacks the clarity and conciseness that Matt so consistently puts forth in his explanations. It seems to happen with some of the other hosts as well. They have good ideas and observations, but lack that innate articulate wizardry and seem to scatter their words.

The exception is Russell imo, who is also very good at explaining his thoughts. Not MD good, but still solid.

  • Do they do these shows on Sunday for a reason? ;]

  • @PenIsland34567 they probably dont work on sundays.

  • @maixck If you watched the video, it said somewhere that it was Sunday. But, okay.

  • @PenIsland34567 Yes that;s my point they all have regular jobs and most likely no one of them works on Sundays so that's why they can do it on Sundays. They don't get any money from this.

  • @ClamCrunchy four hoursemen of atheism

  • The religious are living proof of evolution through natural selection. Their numbers are dwindling and like evolution states; "only the strong survive".

  • some men should rape Mike to see if he want to marry the rapist.

  • @klickkzam dumb comment

  • Can we get a new IQ scale for Christians? I can literally hear the numbers fall as they start to speak. Tragic

  • I love Tracies smile, what a lovely person.

  • @thatguysaids lol i'm with ya dude. i've commented on that on a few atheist experience vids. her smile makes me smile.

  • The mention of hurricanes and religious reaction to them reminded me of a night I watched 2 documentaries back to back with footage from the tornadoes of 2011 where americans exclaim many times in many of the raw footage to god to jesus or start praying when the tornado comes ripping through their house, but then I found on the 2nd documentary on the tsunami in Japan where the japanese subtitles show what they are saying to the waves of destruction in many clips none prays or calls out to a god

  • What is the tattoo on Matts arm? Just curious.

  • @SoulThriveMusic

I think it's a Naval anchor; Matt was in the Navy, and I recall him mentioning as much in another episode.

  • "Praise the lord", a Tracie Harris episode!! They're rare and precious.

  • Theist: "The Bible says unbelievers will go to hell". Atheist: "The Bible also says a woman who has been raped has to marry her rapist". Theist: "stutter, blubber, sputter, sputter,, but., but, but...I have to read that in the Bible."

  • I'm so goddamn sick of that goddamn argument by Christians, "Oh, no no no, that was a kinder, gentler form of slavery...." Get this straight! Slavery is a fucking shitstain on the fabric of humanity, NO MATTER WHAT ASSHOLES PRACTICED IT!! It's a turd, and there's no way of polishing it so it looks better! You can spray a turd with as much perfume as you want, but if you squeeze it, it still smells like shit.

  • @finalfantasy8911

    - "in the atheistic worldview, what hope does that criminal have left ???"

The comforting idea that it will all be over when he is dead.

    - "Atheists don't realize how tragic life is without god"

Either there is a God or there isn't, so we are all with or without God. If there is no God, Christians should be disappointed, but they won't know it. If there is a God after all, atheists will just be surprised, smile, and say: "I always believed that a loving God wouldn't burn me!"

  • @finalfantasy8911

    - "And also..."

And also, the simple fact that it might make some people feel better is no proof for the existence of God. If you don't have any proof for the existence of your God, you don't really have a God either, but then you just have a comforting illusion about the God that you would like to have. Apparently many people need such a pacifier or security blanket. Apparently God usually only helps those who help themselves, so praying for miracles is a waste of time.

  • @TheAtheistExperience

    "And also, the simple fact..."

When did I say that I believed in any god? Your assuming I do?

  • @finalfantasy8911 Chances are people in prison for life did something very bad, so they shouldn't have any hope.

  • Comment removed

  • @banjopanther

    They shouldn't have any hope???

Because they have: commited actions that threaten a bunch of complete strangers who don't care about them(society)/ lived a horrible life and acted due to emotions envoked from it/ were born insane and can do absolutely nothing about it/ were born normal but gradually became insane due to life difficulties/ were born with a "high natural tendency" (which takes into account a number of factors such as anger urges, etc.) to commit "crimes"?

  • @finalfantasy8911 What about the total lack of hope of those condemned to hell? You don't even have to be a bad person to end up there. You seem to be rationalizing criminality in a way that the Bible never would. In fact the punishments for even minor sins are rather harsh (eternal torture).

  • @banjopanther

In other words...you lack knoweldge. Either that or your moral ideas are lacking in actual morals. Or possibly both.

  • @finalfantasy8911 I think people who do bad things should be taken out of society for a term that's proportional to their crime. Does that make me immoral?

  • @banjopanther

Do you think every human being's life is precious? If so, then do you think ANY criminal deserves to be placed in a jail UNTIL THEY DIE or the DEATH sentence??? What kind of crime deserves for one's only life to be taken away PERMENTANTLY? No one can even be sure of the reasons behind that crime, which could be one of the possibilities I gave to you in a earlier comment. If you are an atheist, you should really consider this, since you are looking upon man to make a better world.

  • @finalfantasy8911 No, I don't think every human being's life is precious. But I don't believe in the death penalty either, not because some people don't deserve to die, but because I don't trust our legal system to be perfect, and you cannot appeal a death sentence. You seem to be objecting to the notion of life in prison as punishment for a crime, but eternal torture in hell seems a little worse. How do you reconcile this hypocracy?

  • @banjopanther

Who is to decide who is to live and die!?

  • @finalfantasy8911 Potentially anyone. Our police and government in cases of emergency. A private citizen if their life is threatened. A mother if the child is in her womb and not too developed. A doctor if conjoined twins are being separated and there are complications...

  • What if I told all you atheists that I too am an atheist; and an "evil" atheist (since in a world where there is no objective reality, concepts of good and evil are illusions, and subjective)? I commit some crimes and you "good" atheists want me locked away, and I can see why, but think about it. In a world where morality is subjective, you "good" atheist would be doing a great injustice because you would be trying to change my views of reality to ones that fit closer to others (society).

  • what bothers me about the apologists trying to state that slavery wasnt that bad, how could it not be, just the sanctioning of human bondage is immoral. Besides if slavery wasnt that bad, why did it take divine intervention to allegedly free the Hebrews after 400+ years? It's not like they wanted to stay. Also, think of how draconian the people were @ the time, you got killed for mixing seeds, fabrics, working the sabbath etc. if you got killed for this, these people were truly cruel!

  • lol. Jews against Jews against Jews for Jesus... Awesome. (it's just a Facebook group by the way, scheduled to be removed. The idea though is brilliant.

  • Christians, I sincerely want to experience a single moment of the supernatural reality described in the Bible. I would love, for instance, to speak directly with an angel or demon. Can you help? Is there anything I can do to have an angel or demon talk to me through a snake? As God tells us in the bible, snakes make excellent mediums for such channelings. Conveniently, I happen to have a pet snake in my room. Please send any technical advice you have. Much appreciated. Thanks & God bless.

  • @AscendingParadigm First, get severely drunk. Not just drunk, but unbelievably hammered (why do you think there's wine in church). Next, take a 22" framing hammer (THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!! DO NOT DEVIATE FROM THE HAMMER LENGTH OR GOD WILL BE ANGRY!!!!) Smash yourself in the right, that's the RIGHT temple 3 times, then lay on your bed and stare a ceiling fan that rotates counterclockwise, get your snake and put its head in your mouth and you should hear a voice in your head.

  • Looking at the start of the cloyne report and at its recommendation's it appears to say to me that since 1996 when the church said it would learn from it's mishandling of child abuse claims to the period of this report no progress was made it failed to implement a change that would protect the children in its care. The report then goes on to make recommendations for better file keeping, communication and action in a timely manner. In short I find the report lacks significance by itself.

  • @LOGIC42369 thank you!

  • ugh geneolgy. It only goes so far back if you assume nobody has ever died from disease or injury

  • @BoshRat It's how you know someone is wrong though.

  • Morality is about doing what's right, no matter what you're told.

Religion is about doing what you're told, no matter what's right.

  • @gspendlove That can be the case sometimes with religious people, however I believe we all know that is just one side of the coin. If you still want to stand on that comment I would like to see how you explain it.

  • @RedSun875 (My explanation, part one): People's Temple at Jonestown. Heaven's Gate. The Movement for the Restoration of the Ten Commandments of God. Aum Shinrikyo. Jeffrey Lundgren's farmhouse cult compound. Islamic Fundamentalism. The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The Family International (formerly the Children of God).

Google these names, and you will see what I am talking about.

  • @RedSun875 (My explanation, part two): And it would be very easy to say, "Well, those were aberrations. Those people were crazy, and they perverted the true intentions of those religions." But you have to remember that no one joins a "cult." They join a religious movement, or a self-help group. They're upright and totally sane, most of them. But, very gradually, many of them shed their morals like a cast-off snakeskin and follow their leader, whom they believe is God's representative.

  • @gspendlove The thing is neither my life experiences, the testimony of others or history says that all religious folk turn into snakes. I could be wrong, however that so far in my conversation with you; seems to be what you are saying.

  • @RedSun875 (My explanation, part three): And you also may be saying, "That would never happen to me. I could never do what those people did." That's exactly what those who have committed atrocities in the name of their religion thought (those who lived through the commission of their atrocities, that is). I look at wrong after wrong after wrong being perpetrated by people on their fellow man in the name of religion, and I can't come to any other conclusion than my original post.

  • @gspendlove Great comment!

  • @gspendlove

Perhaps, but there's a problem here.

In a universe with no objective sense of purpose or morality, only subjective morality; there is absolutely no RIGHT morality to live by. All morality is equal, from the most selfless pacifist to the most sadistic, manipulative, selfish nihilist. In the atheistic worldview, its a fact that all morality is purely due to the experiences and personal perspectives of the individual.

  • @gspendlove

Also, to punish ANYONE based on their personal moral viewpoints or actions made due to those personal moral viewpoints, NO MATTER HOW "EVIL" OR "GOOD", IS THE ONLY THING "IMMORAL", in the atheistic worldview. Also in the atheistic worldview: the universe is amoral and pointless, thus the life of a human, and its views on morality, is all adding up to nothing. Humans can give themselves a purpose or destiny, but its still identified as pointless to the universe. All logic.

  • @finalfantasy8911 It may be true that the universe is indifferent to us, but we're talking emotion, empathy, pathos, and our desire as human beings to have good things happen for us. We understand, at this point in our civilization, what things tend to bolster society and what things tend to tear it down. Murder, rape, torture, genocide, slavery...those things, when tolerated and encouraged, really don't make for a good society. And so we condemn them. The bible encourages them.

  • @gspendlove

You only say this because you have be lucky enough to avoid much of the intense hardship this fallen world has to offer. As an atheist, once you go through enough suffering, you will realize just how meaningless you are without an objective morality. And what makes you think I believe in the bible??????

  • @finalfantasy8911

"you will realize just how meaningless you are without an objective morality"

I've been through some very harsh times yet I don't find myself "meaningless" w/o "objective" morality XD

    "the atheistic worldview"

    Atheism isn't a worldview...

"...the universe is amoral and pointless"

You seem to come from the perspective that only a deity makes the universe w/ moral & purpose w/o taking into account deists/non-religious theists who also think the universe is amoral & "pointless".

  • Matt has once again pwned the opposition. Way to separate the bullshit man. WTG.

  • See where you guys are mixed up is about what God wants. God wants you to NOT believe in him, but to treat people well anyway. He wants you to reduce suffering and increase happiness in the world, while NOT believing in him.

AND you are supposed to read the bible and pick out the parts you like. It's a test, see? THAT'S why there is no evidence for His existence.

    It works well

  • Matt, the word you are looking for is undoubtedly "Undoubtedly". Undoutebly isn't a word.

well, I guess it IS a word, just not one in the dictionary of the English language.

other than that you got everything right in the show

  • I think a rational person's authority would not be the bible but rather they would follow evidence wherever it leads. And we have evidence from radiometric dating that the earth is about 4.56 billion years old. And we have evidence from astronomy that the universe is about 13.7 billion years old.

  • Arguing moral points is silly (btw I am an atheist).

Because if you are an atheist you MUST admitt that moral is subjective, and that nothing is morally right or wrong. Its just different actions that we put labels on.

Therefore, if there was a God we couldnt say that the god was immoral, because moral is subjective. So I disagree with Math when he says the bible is morally WRONG.

Because right and wrong requires an objective standard.

  • @gulbirk

Basic moral behaviour exist in some groups of mamals (Great apes, some dolphin, elephants ...). There're set of moral behaviours widely shared in those species (mostly resulting of selective processes). In those case morality can be seen has objective.

Human cultural behaviour that tend to have deletarian effects on the well-being of some part or the totality of the group are generally not share specie wide, & thus could be seen has subjectives.

Read JP Changeux or Sam Harris books

  • @frenchatheiste Objective means that its right because its right. Not because we all agree on it.

We just all agree on it, but its still our subjective opinion.

  • @gulbirk

That the religious or ontological view of morality "there's an absolute right !"... therefore it's difficult to qualify it of subjective.

I refert to ethical objectivism & to the fact that there's social behaviours, in individuals of the same species, that tend to maximise the well being of the group & that's biologicaly transmitted as neurological pattern.

That's an objective morality, but not an absolute one. Bonobos do not have the same moral than humans.

  • @gulbirk Morality is objective- you being the object. The purely selfish perspective is the standard for morality. You know what is good and bad for you and, by extension, you know what is good and bad for everyone else. We all share the same fundamental needs and desires. Morality is about extending to others the same respect you have for yourself.

  • @VerumAdNauseam Thats not what objective means. Objective means that it cant change, for once. And that there is a standard in which IS right.

Our moral is purely subjective, because we have decided whats right and wrong by OUR standards.

Even though we extendt to others it isnt objective, we all just agree on the same subjective moral standard.

  • I like episodes with you Tracie!!!

  • LOVE el arroyo!

  • Jewzus!

  • Exodus 21:20-21 is my favorite passage to shock believers in the Abrahamic god:

"Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their property."

  • @pedazodeboludo that's why the godfearing slaveowner uses a whip

  • Welcome to "Whose Line is it Anyway?" where the points don't matter. Yes, the points don't matter like the person who sits to the right of Matt Dilahunty...

  • "I'm no abortion expert..."

Then STFU! Seriously, I hate people who vehemently sustain their opinion when they have absolutely no idea what they're talking about! And he admits he has no idea, but still goes on to say people shouldn't "fornicate" (I hate that word too). WTH?

  • My brain hurts from listening to Mike try to defend slavery and rape.

  • The thing about the apoloist trying to argue that Slavery wasnt that bad in the past, they fail to realize, that it was probably worse than anything we could do during the slavery in the West. That was the Bronze Age, they stoned for simple offenses, like violating the sabbath, or disobedient children. Can you imagine how draconian they must have treated slaves? If the Hebrews were enslaved for 400 years, and needed God to free them, it must have been horrific! They begged to be free for centuries

  • I love where Matt points out something that bothers me about many Christians. Many of them don't understand their religious scriptures as much as they should for something so important. Like to become Jewish they make you go through all these steps to be sure you know what you're converting too. Many Christian churches don't do that, all they have to do is say "I want to be Christian" then they just get baptized and thats that. I think all of them should requite extensive bible study at least.

  • My catholic ex chastised my drug use from my youth. I said "yeah, i may not be perfect but i do not support rape". she said she didnt, i said "you put money in the plate. some of which (small fraction) reaches relocation programs and legal fees, and buyout settlements. i am superior in this respect"

  • Mike, you have one mouth and two ears, use them in correct proportion

  • Jews agianst jews for jesus. lol

  • @IronMan50780 - There are such things as Messianic Jews. Jews that accept Jesus as their lord and savior and accept the doctrine of the trinity. Though, if such a group can be considered part of Judaism or Christianity is a matter of debate and would require a more in-depth research project then I'm willing to carry out at the moment.

Though, since they accept Jesus as being God, then I would concede that they are probably a Christian sect largely composed of former followers of Judaism.

  • @lobothesacred3

Well, isn't this the other way around? Like Christianity being just a spin-off of Judaism. After all, until the temple of Jerusalem was destroyed, early Christians prayd alongside other Jews, as Christians was nothing more than a sect (just another one) of Jews. And then comes Islam, and it's varioous brunches from Salafite (Wahabi) crackpots to peaceful Baha'i... it's a mess, so f.. that all, it's all BS anyway. 8D

  • @SwineNahNah - Actually, a lot the early Christian movement was from the gentiles. Of course, that left the early Christian movement in quandary on how to explain why so many Jews weren't accepting Jesus as the messiah.

And, the Christian explanation for this was that God was preventing the Jews from accepting Jesus so that he could bring salvation to the gentiles.

  • @lobothesacred3

Well, if I remember that correctly (I'm not an Atheist who have studied the Bible into depth), there is a scene in NT with Jesus and a woman from another tribe or even non Jew ("gentile" that is), she had to persuade him with an argument like "dogs are allowed to eat leftovers of masters meal" to get some blessing or cure from him. So, biblical basis for that may be pretty shaky.

Doesn't this give a good reason to call congregation a "pack" instead of "flock". 8D

  • I don't know what it is with theists and them thinking that because slavery was written about in the bible, it isn't the same as slavery in recent history! I left a thread not so long ago were a African American guy was actually trying to defend slavery in the bible stating that "God is the creator. He can allow for anything!" I know exactly how Matt feels talking to the guy @20:00

  • @SupaShang - That has always bugged me. Why are so many African Americans Christian? I guess it was indoctrination through their Christian masters, but why would they want to praise and worship a God that would sanction an institution such as slavery that brought them over to the United States in the first place.

Are they praising this God for making them become "Good Christians" even if the cost was their freedom?

  • @lobothesacred3 there are plenty of behaviors many black people still carry over from slavery, most destructive, like christianity, and such. the church was also instrumental in the civil rights movements, so it will take some time... we're behind, give us another generation.

  • @hollaboutit - Actually, it seems strange. Since, the church was also involved in keeping black as slaves in the first place. Many Christians in the South before the Civil War broke out argued that they had a God given right to own slaves.

I guess, if this "God" does exist that he plays both sides of the field and only takes credit for his good actions. He creates the waves of oppression and then soundly defeats them. Truly, if this being does exist he/she/it is a master of manipulation.

  • @lobothesacred3 of course, how could it "exist" otherwise?

  • That question about jews, lol. Go american schools.

  • I don't know why I asked whether you had read the study, clearly you don't read studies because if you did you would know that societal chaos is directly corellated to religious society. Increase in religion is directly correlated to increases in poverty, teen pregnancy, rape/murder/theft rates, wrongful convictions, etc etc. Atheists are the second most under represented group in prison populations after bhuddists/jainists. So clearly you're just making things up that you like.

  • @turbowombat - I would be curious to see this study. I haven't found a solid link to the original author of a paper showing that the United States prison population has a lower percentage of atheists amongst it's numbers then the general population.

I've found people mention it repeatedly, but false information can flow across the internet rather easily. So, a link back to the original source would indeed be helpful.

  • @lobothesacred3 It's not actually a study, per se. The information is public access statistical data collected by the Federal Bureau of Prisons and then compared to more standard census data collected regarding religious affiliation in the country. The one I was citing, incorrectly I might add, was something I saw on holysmoke dot o r g showing Hindu religions to be in the minority, which I mistakenly said was Buddhist. I will continue to research and post more links here as I find them.

  • @turbowombat - My problem with the statistics presented is I could never seem to find them while surfing on the Federal Bureau of Prisons website. Though, the information may be filed and accessible under a different agency like the Census Bureau.

  • @lobothesacred3 The analyst on holysmoke had to specifically request the statistics. This is how most "publically accessible" information from before 2006 is filed. Though the info is old, 1997. found a really good analysis of it though which shows that religious practitioners are not positively correlated to incarceration. Atheists still come out under represented by something like 2:1. "Prison Incarceration and Religious Preference" at adherents dot c o m.

  • You guys scare me! You should be afraid not to believe in fairy tails??? This is to me the world upside down!!! They're the ones having the explaining to do!!!

Just a reaction from europe, you seem to be enslaved in religious thoughts yourselves, why should you have to apologise for being reasonable?

  • Awesome

  • You can tell Matt has hidden ammunition to shoot down the caller with when his cheekbones stick out. Example: His cheekbones stick out at 11:30 to 17:00 because he knows the caller's answer to his "lady marries her rapist" story will show how incompetent the caller is.

  • Matt and Tracie FTW

  • The bible's polocy on women being raped is like "you broke it you bought it..."

  • I'm from Sweden and even I can recognize the voice of "Mike" or like in the episode #722 where he called himself Thomas from London. I think his earlier name was Mark. In one of the episodes it seemed like he did do some progress in thinking and question his religion. However, I'm not sure what his doing now though.

  • 22:00

    Shit's about to go down.

    Go Matt!!!

  • Mike!?!? ..... Mike!?!? ......Mike!?!?

It cracks me up when Matt does that. ;-)

Mike, like most believers, really wants to think for himself. He just cannot wean himself off of the nipple of a 2000 year old text. Mom told him that it's an axiom that is not to be questioned. You can't really blame Mike - he's been MOLDED to believe this stuff since the day that he was shot out of the womb. Give him time - he'll come around.

  • ‎"I'm not sure if faith can move mountains but I've seen what it can do to skyscrapers. Never Forget."

  • How dare these fools question the divine flying spaghetti monster???? May his divine noodly appandage bless your hope thirsty heart, RAmen!!!

  • I get sick of people saying you need to account for reason. When anyone tries to account for reason, they either use reason to do so, which already assumes reason to hold. Or they use nonsense. I don´t feel I need to comment on trying to use nonsense to account for reason. We can see that reason/logic applies all the time and that it never fails to apply. That´s enough to just assume it holds.

  • i wish i could speak as much sense as matt dillahunty ... just amazing .. my favourite atheist :) !!! great show again too :D !!

  • Traci is a great:)

  • "Is it moral or not?" The simplest questions are the hardest to answer for theists.

  • This has been another Dillahunty Pwnage!

  • 48:50 - Hilarius

  • Matt OMG Thank you for destroying Mike from Detriot Sir I salute you. It almost made me cry for someone else to say what I have been trying to explain all of these years.. GOD bless you (thats a joke) I have watched only about 5 shows but will follow your show for as long has you decide to air it. Thanks again

  • Next episode 726 – the first caller "George from Wilmington" is Mark yet again. This is getting fucking ridiculous. He can try to hide how his voice sounds, but his way of speaking is the same.

  • @000phill000 you are right... damn it. with another fake accent

  • @000phill000 I think he honestly thinks he can defeat Matt if he tries enough times, but he doesn't like getting stuck with the baggage of being proven wrong on other points so he needs a "fresh start".

  • Matts stance on freewill has actually been debunked I can't bother to look it up but if any of you care enough to google it, you'll find it. I'm talking about when he says that our brain makes decisions before we actually make them.

  • @r0bbinz that is the most lame ass stance for something i have ever seen. if you want to debunk something, at least give the proof with it
