I'm pretty sure BF2 does not support this, this video is a showcase with modified game version. While your in " look mode " in vehicles the game will not accept input so you could look to the side of the cockpit but the aircraft will reject controller inputs and TrackIR cant bypass it in vanilla version BF2.

I think it's a great idea and you CAN do it yourself although with the TrackIR in mouse emulation mode & using mouse look in vehicles. Dice need to pull their finger out and get this working with BF3 ....things like this sell games & hardware on wow factor over other games!!!!

I don't think so... I mean, you can't do movements like that in bf2 to begin with, so obviously it has been extensively modified.

@myrandomspaces PC's have great graphics but most games for Pc's have better graphics on consoles. I think the keyboard is an inefficient way to control and so is the joystick. Besides, more games are for consoles than PC's because consoles are a more demanding. also windows is microsoft, which makes terrible OS's and Horrific Consoles. I have heard no one ever say windows or microsoft is good. I have only heard fagboys critisize Sony and other quality companies.

TrackIR. Its like a little cam that register three fields that you mount on a cap. The way you move your head will change your field of view the same way. It's fantastic.

Unless you've got the sourcecode for BF2. ;)

You need to hook up to the TrackIR via an API and then relay the inputs to the camera.

It could perhaps be done via hacking the exe. But you would probably get insta-booted by any anti-cheat for having a modded exe.

For TrackIR supported games I recommend:

- IL2 Sturmovik

- ArmA2

- HalfLife2-Insurgency mod

i assume they didn't want trackir in the game because it would be so unfair, pilots using trackir would have a huge advantage over the ones who don't. As with a huge part of bf2, realism is sacrificed so the regular idiot can play it. If you want more realism in bf2, check out Project Reality (mod of the year 2008)

I am not full of money and only now i understand that i cant use this in BF2(my favourite game).. there are some solutions?! if Kevin did this, why we can't use the trackIR in this way too ? :( somebody can help me to understand better ? and how to use it ?

I answered your question on the TrackIR forums, but for everyone else that's interested: as the title indicates, this is only a tech demo. It's an in house mod showing what 6DOF can look like in BF2, but it's up to the developers to actually incorporate the technology into the public version of the game. Nothing new to announce at this point on that front.

Whether in BF2 or any other title, it's ultimately up to the developers to decide to take advantage of TrackIR's technology.

@PSNgregiskool nobody likes arma because they don't know how to disable v-sync from the game (it makes everything movement and aiming laggy and steals ½ of your FPS).. it's easy though but it can't be disabled from game settings.

@Leopardipzg BF2 has no problems it's just a great and simple game. ARma2 graphics suck too, BF2 is a lttle better and the sounds of the humvee and planes are terrible. No one cares about Arma-- it was/is/will always be a failure.

TrackIR itself is an awesome piece of kit, very useful, but without sopprt by game developers it's uses in game without support is more novelty than useful, shame because the BF series would be awesome with it.

BF2 does not have trackIR suport, so if u play in the infantary u will aim with ur head what is crap. Use trackIR when u r playing ARMA that has total TrackIR suport.

I've just started getting back into playing il2 online and I'm having a heck of a time using a mouse to look around and so I'm going to get a trackir. My question to you is how big of a difference is there with trackir 4? I probably can't afford 4 right now but I don't want to buy 3 if 4 is good enough to mean I should save for it. What do you think?

For IL2, which only supports 2DOF, the TrackIR3 would work initially.

The TrackIR has a 12 degree larger field of view, and better resolution for tracking. But if you can only afford a TrackIR3, it is better than not having one at all...........

Question though, if this were to be implemented (now or in any other game in the future) would it be possible to hide from bullets like how you were ducking your head down in the jeep? Does it work this way in ArmA? (I would think not). That would add a whole new level into FPS! Ducking out the way like that would be awesome :D

I'm glad to see requests for NP to support BF2 with at least 2 DOF, but it looks like more. NaturalPointKevin's comment that no official support for the BF titles are planned, but I want to know from either the BF2 Tech Demo team or NP what to do to run TrackIR in BF2? Great video. By the way, I'm enjoying TrackIR 4 w/ ProClip in ArmA, but to be able to go back into BF2 and do this is very appealing.
