I think that Lambdadelta found a kakera where Rika chan lived, and decide to toy with her. She uses takano miyo as a piece for herself. Bern was created from Hanyuu's power out of Rika's memory/whatever in order to repeatedly go through higurashi. At the end where Rika beat Takano Rika continues to live her life where Bern travels to different kakera to avoid Lambda. If I remember correctly Bern said Lambda is still angry about losing the last game, which is higurashi
I haven't played the games, but one thing that makes me confused, is that if there was a whole 2 series about assumed rika/takano fighting in higurashi, how come they aren't playing bigger parts in Umineko? Just kinda seems like higurashi turned into a waste now o.O

Well, it seems that Beatrice is merely a puppet of Lambda. She use Beatrice to set up a game with Battler to lure Bern. Bern's Letter in Extra TIPS mentions the trap by Lambda. Bern must have found something useful so she commit to the game and help Battler and she just won't give up due to her personality. Bern and Lambda played with Battler instead of Beatrice in Ep 5. I also suspect the sick friend Bern mentioned in her letter refers to Hanyuu, but merely my speculation
as a side comment, I think it is a bit hasty to make judgements on the witches. I have heard that one of the hints makes Bernkastel out to be evil, but so far she just seems apathetic. I would argue that Bernkastel in Higurashi didn't tell Lambdadelta (as takono) to die, she saved takano at the end (albeit coldly). We don't know the rules of the game, but presumably LD had already 'left' (though why Bern wanted to help takano i don't know).

It's not a definite thing, but it is implied. Fredrika Bernkastel is the author of poems that have been coupled with Higurashi volumes and in post cards. I also think that the Umineko games have shown her full name to be Fredrika Bernkastel.

is the Umineko no naku koro ni-anime yet released? I would really like to see it, it seems interesting, though I liked Higurashi's idea better, since you really couldn't think that kids like them could kill anybody, so it was more terrifying.
