I did an internet search about what breeds would suit me the most, and I didn't expect it to be that accurate - But they couldn't have been more correct!
This dog looks perfect to me - And after I have done more research on one - I'm hoping to get one.
They look so sweet!! I usually prefer larger dogs, but then again I am used to really tiny fluffy creatures like rabbits and guinea-pigs.
yea i hear that. I cant get one either since my mom is allergic to dogs. Really sucks. I would love one of these little guys runnin around my house. Maybe someday...
Man, i really want a pet dog, but since i still live with my parents i cant get one, because im not alowed to own any pets.
i was thinking about getting either a finnish spitz or a american eskimo dog in a few years (when i move out of course), but when i look at this cute little thing i want a american eskimo dog more than a finnish spitz.
The good thing is that my grandmother is a dogperson, so she can help me raise a happy and healthy dog! =)
i really luv American Eskimo dog cuz they're the cutest dog in the planet i miss my doggie Sinbad n also i luv how his ears together n when i pet his head his ears separated.
why do people get dogs if they are going to keep them tied up or in cages? Pets are to have fun with & they are part of the family. You wouldnt tie up a family member would you? I just dont agree with having pets locked up or tied up.
They do really look like Japanese Spitz. I wonder if they have the same temperament. Our family always choose Japanese Spitz if we want to have a dog. They're adorable.
@jen8933 Yeah I've never seen an Eskie keep its tail down so much. An Eskie coming out of its cage would have tail up and be pleased to be out, and pleased to see its owner, and its tail would be up. This Eskie's emotions are skewed for some unknown reason. Gives me a bad feeling.
seems to have no puppy spunk. i think maybe he's been neglected=kept in a small cage for hours=not taken in as part of the family pack, has made him neurotic.
He is adorable, sure he may seem scared but he looks so small :3 My American Eskimo is loving but very protective over our house LOL I am about to take him for a walk, he loveeeessss them :)
That puppy already looks sorta scared of his owner. Whenever we let my dog out, he comes rushing. I've never seen a dog go further into his crate when the crate's opened. Maybe he is just camera shy, but somehow that sounds suspicious.
And yeah, how come you didn't take him for a walk when you asked if he wanted to?
I would like to know why it is that u kept a leash on your dog while inside. and why u asked if he wanted to go out yet took him over to the couch to lay on a pillow. then take him out and not even walk him around to get exercise or even give him enough potty time. if your think u r training him you are doing it incorrectly. you should take him out frequently and give him enough time to actually potty.
Awww!! How cute! I have an eski, but I adopted her when she was already full grown so i missed her cute puppy stage. I think I'm gonna have to get one though (an eski puppy i mean)^______________^
i don't know what breed is my dog!(sorry for bad english)
this is his info:
his fur is white and long
his height is as tall as the german spitz(adult)
well...he is like a german spitz but he have a longer nose and legs..and his ears is much longer and its always curved just like the other dogs..i am not sure if it is cross breed..so please!! help me.....
this video almsot made me cry, My first dog was an American Eskimo, My aprents got her as a puppy when i was born. She lived 15 years. very sad losing that dog, when you with with her your whoel life. It happens though. now i got a Jack Russel. BTW, looks liek you did a good job training.
I have a dog like this myself and i went to the vet to ask about their eyes. Like what grows around them. The vet sai to clean out their eyes with a warm paper towel to prevent skin cancer for this dog.
well trained, i wish my dog was sorta more calm like urs, but he's to old to be trained, at 13 years old i don't think he wants to listen any more. i have an american eskimo too, his name is suky, he;s as old as me, one year younger, we're like brothers. we've fought, cried, argued lol , i know weird huh, not listen to our parents, lol a lot in common
I have a 4 year old Mini American Eskimo. His name is Buddy, but his tag says (WHY YOU LITTLE). Just kidding about the tag folks. I myself could not ask for a better animal friend. My first day home with Buddy I had this great idea of using a 4 foot baby gate to keep him in the kitchen. He was only around 8 weeks old and didn't like that at all. He has a bamboo and metal den next to me in the living room. Very smart loyal friend. Only 1 problem don't walk up to me while I am sitting. Grrr.Lol
I myself love Eskies but this one seems to fear his owner and the owner lets him out only love enough to poop and not long enough to do the other . Never takes him for a walk.and i wonder how many hours he spends in his crate .An eskie is one of the most caring and obedience dog I have every owe but I am concerned about this little fellow
@dmlady1229 I absolutely love how an individual can automatically assume how we treat our dog by a 3:41 min video....
That's right, dmlady1229, according to you, we never took him out on walks. In fact, you can deduce in a 3 minute video that we were just so neglectful.
In a 3 min video, you can go ahead an conclude that he spends all hours in his crate.
@dmlady1229 I understand your concern. The first few seconds into this video and I thought that this dog reminds me of a Bichon I know of that was abused. I have owned an eski for 17 years and they are usually very energetic and always look like they're smiling (unlike this dog).
In addition, I also find it strange that the dog knows to poop immediately when it is outside. Something that dogs usually only do 10mn into a walk. So, ya, you didn't make yourself look like an ass by any means.
@dmlady1229 This puppy is still a very young puppy, Undoubtedly, he's going to spend some time in the crate. And our Eskie reacts the same when when you're looking down at her and talking to her.. She KNOWS you're talking about her. So, her ears go down. When you look away, her ears go up. This puppy reacted the same way our dog does. To assume they're abusive because of a bit less than 4 minutes of video makes you a complete and utter fool.
Adorable! I'm considering this breed.. though I'm a bit hesitant about whether or not they fit into our living conditions. Does Caanthus shed a lot of fur?
@HISfrogPRINCESS Caanthus sheds a lot of fur during the summer and usually gets a good shave on around June. He looks like a poodle for a bit but enjoys the heat relief that comes with the haircut!
You really should not shave him, he is not a poodle! They naturally have two coats for the sole purpose of regulating their temperature. Yeah, they shed like crazy, but shaving a dog that is not meant to be shaved can be very harmful to them.
I'd lose it if somebody tried to shave Jackson (my little eskimo)
they are also not bred to be house pets. like all work dogs that come into fashion as apartment pets he has to be forced to be a shitzhu in a german shepard body and soul
@k1ssmyc0w I am getting mine this Thursday for 400$. I would suggest that you browse the internet and it depends on where you live becasue of shipping.... etc.
@k1ssmyc0w It's not necessary to pay a lot for an American Eskimo. There are Eskie Rescue groups all over the United States, also some in Canada, they have Eskies of all ages that need be rehomed from puppies up to seniors whose owners died... never buy from a breeder when there are many dogs in Rescues that need to be adopted... you can find a rescue doggie for very low cost! :)
@LoreleiMission I JUST adopted a 13 year old male senior .he is blind..was in a wire cage for 7 years.he is the sweetest lil guy..just craves to be held
I have an American Eskimo too. Her name's Sophie and she's 7 (turning 8) this year. All these 7 years I've had her have been a joy. Wonderful dogs and companions, but they need a lot of fussing :3
They seem to be the smaller of the spitz dogs. I just can't think of any other Northern dogs that are smallish. I know the Canadian Eskimo Dogs are very big...
that dog is shit scared!!!! i've had dogs for over thirty years. what is this blokes domination problem?. the video makes me shake my head in dismay!.why is the dog so scared? you have to ask yourself.return that beautiful dog to a rescue centre and buy a pekingese for Christ sake!. or for that matter make do with a goldfish.
he seems quiet and very well behaved. You've obviously done an excellent job. Are the smaller husky/sptiz breeds less vocal than their larger counterparts?
dogs like to have their own area they are comfortable with, their safe zone. A cage is not cruel as long as the owner takes the dog for long walks and playtime often. my eskimo is very energetic & playful and loves long walks (unlike my shitzus which just lounge around all day). but when it's time to sleep, he jumps in his crate.
Yes, although just because he is an "eskimo dog" does not mean he loves the cold! He did get lost in -20 degree (F) weather overnight and survived the Alaskan wilderness until we picked him up the next day. Somehow found his way some miles back to the road where we had parked the day before. He had gotten off his leash by accident and freaked out when he heard my shotgun discharge (rabbit hunting).
@AznGdess573 my american eskimo dog he loves the summer and he is really fulffy and we get him a little hair cut and my dog also loves the winter and we live in michigan but were the lower area
im begging my parents to let me get this type of dog! I have a cat right now so I'de have to socialize my cat with it first. It's the perfect size dog and it really is beautiful.Congrats! Does it pee all over the house though?
He's perfect with other animals, sometimes to his detriment. He has learned to be good friends with the cats. He has also learned to herd the kitties when they do things they are not supposed to, like when they escape the house through an opening (window, door). He herds his new bloodhound brother who is a whopping big boy (bigger than himself) at this point when he does not come when called. I cannot believe sometimes how loyal and intelligent our little eskimo dog has become.
Cage? omg ppl! It's called a kennel, and it's VERY humane! Most of the time it's the puppy's safehaven, and ppl put their dogs in there so they wont get hurt by wires or something dangerous that could be fatal!!! Gosh!!!
Looks very smart! they're probably very smart in the first place. I have a Border Collie and I can see similarities in their faces and the way they move their ears. Cute dog!
I have an Eskimo that is about two. Initially we had to keep him in a kennel because we had a cat that stayed indoors as well, but our cat passed recently and we now let him stay out more in the house unless we are away from home. Maxx is potty trained and a very loving dog.Loving to our family only, he's protective of us and will not take up with strangers...good thing though! He does have a slight nervous streak about him but it's not very bad.I love American Eskimos, they are beautiful!!!!
It is not incarceration! ALL dogs like to have their own space. A Kennel (Or cage as some may call it) represents a place of safety and security for the dog. I had an Eskie, and used the kennel many times when she was a puppy. I would leave the door open and she loved he private place.
We would do the same - leave the door open and he would voluntary go in there. He's a little over 2 years old now and he's a beautiful dog. He doesn't need the kennel anymore nor have we used it in a while, but he still prefers to go in there and sleep at times or to just play.
He's in his cage because he is a multiple felon. We did let him out to the yard to relieve himself occasionally, as shown in the video. His release date was in mid-2008, so he is no longer incarcerated.
i have 1 named sushi shes half pomeranian and half american eski she has brownish highlights and spots in her fur, she came in the 3rd liter of puppies and her older brother everest came in the 1st liter
I saw really shy and timid eskie puppies like this in a pet store once. I hope he perks up once he gets to know you and you don't have to cage him anymore. I didn't have mine as a puppy, I found him abandoned in a park, and I had the opposite problem with him for a while. He had fear aggression, but once he learned to trust me, he developed into a solid dog with a lot of energy, no fear, timidness, or aggression. Good luck!
so cute! My friend Codi has a standard eskie named Corbin, and he's very sweet. He's getting old, but hanging in there. She, too, started him out as a little puppy, and I think that is the best way to own a dog. I have American Eskimo dogs as an ideal breed to look at in the long term, because they range from 10 to 35 pounds when full-grown.
hey, its alright what this people talk to you about how to treat your puppy and stuff. most people who think they need to treat their puppy like animal, I bet they never had a dog before. you are indeed a good owner, you can see that the puppy is well behaved and he know his routine. Dont mind thos haters who never had a dog before and jealous of having one. GOod luck
Immaturity, I'm just pointing out the truth. Dogs should be free around the freakin' house, and you shouldn't put a cage over his bed...just let it be uncovered. FREEE!!!! How'd you like to have your bed caged, MS. NO FUN.
This guy doesn't really treat this dog like family. Why would you put it in the case for so long, and only let it out when you want to? Poor thing, it should be free around the house....that's why it's called a home and not the pet store.
Yes, that's right. Let us all make a conclusion from a small 3 minute video about how we really treat a dog. Yep...in a 3 minute video we can conclude that we place the dog in the cage for such a loooong time. Oh no. Animal neglect. Yes, we should let it roam free around the house when it is an untrained 16 week old puppy and have it ruin all the furniture, eat through the pillows, pee on the carpet and get into mischief. Come on now. I guess you like to have your dog do all those. We don't.
Almost every expert and pet trainer suggests using a crate (aka cage) to train the dog. Dogs do not think like humans. They love having a den and perceive their crates as dens. Most dogs that have been raised with knowledge of a crate will go into it even without being told to do so. It is their home. Crates are far from cruel. If more people used them, perhaps there would be fewer abandoned dogs at the pound and on the street.
Are you f'ing serious? Beaten, huh? So we're just going to go around accusing people of beating an animal? You know what happens to people who go around making false accusations, right?
On top of that you know what they say about assumptions--
I (the originator of the name that I've had for 13 years) am an Asian female with an Egyptian deity's name. The "dude" is my fiance. Does that clear things up?
He has always been a nervous dog. I do not understand why, though he has never gotten over that. His nervousness turns into protectiveness of the family which is a double edged sword.
At first I was worried about the poor thing in a cage, but as it's new I completely understand now... :P

They seem to be the smaller of the spitz dogs. I just can't think of any other Northern dogs that are smallish. I know the Canadian Eskimo Dogs are very big...
Was the American introduced from somewhere else?

cute little dog!
I want one, I am looking at one that is a rat terrier/American Eskimo mix.

that dog is shit scared!!!! i've had dogs for over thirty years. what is this blokes domination problem?. the video makes me shake my head in dismay!.why is the dog so scared? you have to ask yourself.return that beautiful dog to a rescue centre and buy a pekingese for Christ sake!. or for that matter make do with a goldfish.

Aww. He's so cute. Looks a lot like mine. Mine is 1/2 toy & 1/2 miniature.

I have a mix between a mini eskimo annd a pomeranian, 7 months. his name is gizmo and i love him.:)
nailpainter101 2 years ago
he seems quiet and very well behaved. You've obviously done an excellent job. Are the smaller husky/sptiz breeds less vocal than their larger counterparts?

it's called crate training

what a beautiful dog...does it have to be in a cage???
supari100 2 years ago
im guessing it does! Is that inhumane or something?
crazyphil101 2 years ago
@supari100
dogs like to have their own area they are comfortable with, their safe zone. A cage is not cruel as long as the owner takes the dog for long walks and playtime often. my eskimo is very energetic & playful and loves long walks (unlike my shitzus which just lounge around all day). but when it's time to sleep, he jumps in his crate.
razorblade42069 1 year ago
thanks for that....it does make sense to me now.

why is he on the leash all the time?

it's better they get used to it when they are young...or you get troubles later

Such a sweet dog! Would you recommend a dog like this to someone who lives by themselves up north?
HMintify 2 years ago
YES
gggetmoneyy 2 years ago
Yes, although just because he is an "eskimo dog" does not mean he loves the cold! He did get lost in -20 degree (F) weather overnight and survived the Alaskan wilderness until we picked him up the next day. Somehow found his way some miles back to the road where we had parked the day before. He had gotten off his leash by accident and freaked out when he heard my shotgun discharge (rabbit hunting).
AznGdess573 2 years ago
That is astonishing!
Well, I only live in Pennsylvania, so it doesn't get quite that cold here.

im begging my parents to let me get this type of dog! I have a cat right now so I'de have to socialize my cat with it first. It's the perfect size dog and it really is beautiful.Congrats! Does it pee all over the house though?
AliCat1242 2 years ago
mine does >.>
i mostly keep him in the kitchen if hes not outside running around barking.
they make great guard dogs and love to be with their owners
MetalForLife1315 2 years ago
He's perfect with other animals, sometimes to his detriment. He has learned to be good friends with the cats. He has also learned to herd the kitties when they do things they are not supposed to, like when they escape the house through an opening (window, door). He herds his new bloodhound brother who is a whopping big boy (bigger than himself) at this point when he does not come when called. I cannot believe sometimes how loyal and intelligent our little eskimo dog has become.
AznGdess573 2 years ago
Hopefully Caanthus now gets more of a walk, than from upstairs to right outside the door to go potty! Eskimos love to run...

Cage? omg ppl! It's called a kennel, and it's VERY humane! Most of the time it's the puppy's safehaven, and ppl put their dogs in there so they wont get hurt by wires or something dangerous that could be fatal!!! Gosh!!!

He does have a slight nervous streak about him but it's not very bad.I love American Eskimos, they are beautiful!!!!
samturnkey 2 years ago
They are beautiful and very loving and protective. He is even protective of his feline brother and sister. =)
AznGdess573 2 years ago
Do not incarcerate this sweetheart anymore. You have to pay a lot of attention and watch him.
gkurdina 2 years ago
It is not incarceration! ALL dogs like to have their own space. A Kennel (Or cage as some may call it) represents a place of safety and security for the dog. I had an Eskie, and used the kennel many times when she was a puppy. I would leave the door open and she loved he private place.
LMichaelL65 2 years ago
We would do the same - leave the door open and he would voluntary go in there. He's a little over 2 years old now and he's a beautiful dog. He doesn't need the kennel anymore nor have we used it in a while, but he still prefers to go in there and sleep at times or to just play.

ahhhh :'( u keep him in a cage? i NEVER put my Eskies in a cage
NeoBirchstick 2 years ago
He's in his cage because he is a multiple felon. We did let him out to the yard to relieve himself occasionally, as shown in the video. His release date was in mid-2008, so he is no longer incarcerated.

Good luck!

rearwheelslider 2 years ago
so cute! My friend Codi has a standard eskie named Corbin, and he's very sweet. He's getting old, but hanging in there. She, too, started him out as a little puppy, and I think that is the best way to own a dog. I have American Eskimo dogs as an ideal breed to look at in the long term, because they range from 10 to 35 pounds when full-grown.
cannonballsax 3 years ago
what a beautiful dog!! why do you keep him in a cage?
jahmbella 3 years ago 2
Just for argument's sake, they aren't a nervous breed. I had an American Eskimo for 18 years and she wasn't nervous.
Ddrizzt87 3 years ago
Bullshit. They are very nervous and territitrial

hey, its alright what this people talk to you about how to treat your puppy and stuff. most people who think they need to treat their puppy like animal, I bet they never had a dog before. you are indeed a good owner, you can see that the puppy is well behaved and he know his routine. Dont mind thos haters who never had a dog before and jealous of having one. GOod luck

You can just see from the dog's face that he's not enjoying any part of those 3 minutes, Mr. NO FUN OWNER.
cosmosvision 3 years ago
I bow down to thee, Cosmovision. The dog whisperer and dog psychic who can tell exactly what a dog is thinking in a 3 minute video.
Oh, and it's MS. NO FUN OWNER. Or you can call me MS. DISCIPLINE. My dog behaves and doesn't pee on the carpet and jump on the bed and couch.
What are you? a 10-year-old? Your immaturity shines right on through.
AznGdess573 3 years ago
Immaturity, I'm just pointing out the truth. Dogs should be free around the freakin' house, and you shouldn't put a cage over his bed...just let it be uncovered. FREEE!!!! How'd you like to have your bed caged, MS. NO FUN.
cosmosvision 3 years ago
how is this dog trapped in a cage when in the video hes laying on a bed thats been set up for him that obviously means that he's out a lot duhh
hollister18x3 3 years ago 7
You do know that cages are often used to train dogs right? You learn something new every day.
aopdjasldksa 3 years ago 2
This guy doesn't really treat this dog like family. Why would you put it in the case for so long, and only let it out when you want to? Poor thing, it should be free around the house....that's why it's called a home and not the pet store.
cosmosvision 3 years ago
Yes, that's right. Let us all make a conclusion from a small 3 minute video about how we really treat a dog. Yep...in a 3 minute video we can conclude that we place the dog in the cage for such a loooong time. Oh no. Animal neglect. Yes, we should let it roam free around the house when it is an untrained 16 week old puppy and have it ruin all the furniture, eat through the pillows, pee on the carpet and get into mischief. Come on now. I guess you like to have your dog do all those. We don't.
AznGdess573 3 years ago
Almost every expert and pet trainer suggests using a crate (aka cage) to train the dog. Dogs do not think like humans. They love having a den and perceive their crates as dens. Most dogs that have been raised with knowledge of a crate will go into it even without being told to do so. It is their home. Crates are far from cruel. If more people used them, perhaps there would be fewer abandoned dogs at the pound and on the street.
DonnaLFernandez 2 years ago
Thank you!
Not only will there be fewer abandoned dogs because of behavioral issues, but there will be less misbehaved dogs.
AznGdess573 2 years ago
He looks like he's terrified of that guy.
That's sad.
Mine never looks at me like that.
That dog looks like he's been beaten.
OMFGeLLii 3 years ago
Are you f'ing serious? Beaten, huh? So we're just going to go around accusing people of beating an animal? You know what happens to people who go around making false accusations, right?
On top of that you know what they say about assumptions--
You make an ASS out of U and ME (ASSUME)

Saedrea 3 years ago
Actually, WE are a couple.
I (the originator of the name that I've had for 13 years) am an Asian female with an Egyptian deity's name. The "dude" is my fiance. Does that clear things up?
AznGdess573 3 years ago
And yes, they are very sweet, loving, loyal dogs. Granted the owner doesn't leave them to run the house.

I can't belive you've only had him for 2 weeks in the video, he listen so well to you. :)
How is he doing now?
vilacom 3 years ago
He is doing very well now. And he is very loyal; a great guard dog.
The crate training does work extremely well. As evidenced by the video (if he listens so well at only two weeks)

YOUNGERD1AB0LUS 3 years ago
He has always been a nervous dog. I do not understand why, though he has never gotten over that. His nervousness turns into protectiveness of the family which is a double edged sword.
