  • 0 〇 lin dong ; 1 一 yi yao ; 2 二 er liang ; 3 三 san san ; 4 四 si si ; 5 五 wu wu ; 6 六 liu liu ; 7 七 qi guai ; 8 八 ba ba ; 9 九 jiu gou ; Xin xin *never* uses the military way as I know...
  • @mosesofmason3 They use dong and yao but with a low-falling tone. They also use a couple of non-standard numbers: 7 is su (high tone) 9 is something that sounds like "floong" (mid-rising tone). Maybe you can tell me what that is.

  • I would like to list a table for comparison of number pronounced by difference way in PinYin. (number, Chinese characters, normal, military)

  • @mosesofmason3 There is a table like that on my web page with sound samples. Look at one of the comments above for the address.

  • Many people who speak Chinese, even many native-speakers, are unaware that in military and government radio communications some numbers are represented by different sounds from normal speech, supposedly for clarity. In addition, V13 uses a couple of sounds for numbers that aren't standard radio-style numbers along with several standard radio-style numbers that use non-standard tones. For a complete explanation, check 3W's dot kentfoto dot com slash spooks slash newstar.htm.

  • Thanks for responding mosesofmason3. What are you using as a source for your numbers? You know, of course that these are radio-style numbers and not spoken-style, right? And even these radio-style numbers are non-standard compared to other Chinese message activity numbers. My web page seems to be the only place to find radio numbers explained. I also explain the differences in V13. Some of the sound clips are linked wrong but I'm working on that.

  • @westlirox the military-style number are not unfamiliar to SW listeners :) But what xin xin broadcasting station used here are not military radio-style, at least not fully. For example, the number 一 (1) in the message pronounced by the female announcer is always "yi", but not "yao" which expected in military-style. Here, xin xin chose a much more populace way to transmit its messages.

  • @mosesofmason3 I can see that now. After looking over your translations of the number groups in the message above and looking at what seemed to be odd discrepancies in the group counts and what seemed to be odd references to the months in the preambles, I can see that you're right. It still sounds like they use yuan yue for January, however.

  • @westlirox ya, they use "yuan yue" for January always.

  • 3:30-8:40 the message should be

    8564 6157 6703 5851 3634 3958 3233 7367 6731 4113 1220 8513 9267 4414 9303 3381 3607 4940 0160 9238

    3069 4600 7584 8840 7811 3605 7237 1028 2212 2217 9768 3213 1672 6621 9532 1844 9300 4252 0621 9435

    5433 3437 4423 9277 5711 4680 5466

This is 3rd message for unit #1969 in March, characters count 47.

  • nearly every units number copied in the subtitle of this video is incorrect...

    e.g.

1:28 the unit number should be #1969 but not #15161

1:39 the unit number should be #2306 but not #12396, and group count should be 41

2:09 the unit number should be #3246 but not #13546, and group count should be 41

2:52 the unit number should be #5836 but not #10836

3:10 the unit number should be #1969

  • I don't think there's a valid email address for New Star. If there is, I don't think they are interested in being sociable. Spies are like that sometimes. I have a web page with some additional information if you want to learn more. Check 3W's dot kentfoto dot com slash spooks.

  • very nice catch and recording !!
