Basically fellas I go to the Osoto Gari first. If that doesn't work, I'll basically sweep the other leg (Ouchi Gari). It's an easy follow up attack since you're already trying to take out the legs. Yes, you need to modify this so you don't end up in opponents guard. Esily done by bring your foot to his butt and kneeling after the takedown. This will put you in, basically an open half guard and easy to pass. You'll get pts for passing and pts for the takedown.
From what I've seen, many people in a BJJ match will try to pull guard, especially if they think you know some wrestling or Judo. Why bother learning a takedown that will only put them where they want to be, with the one distinction that you'll have expended more effort to get there?
Not a big fan of McCormick myself, but I've been in too many occasions where you can't get your opponent just quite right for ouchi gari, and this seems like a simple enough way to get the kuzushi right. Thanks for posting!
how about i shut everyone up, type this into youtube, tokuzo takahashi vs. daniel mc cormick senior nationals. thats my training parnter tossing him like a baby. case closed
you do that in a real Judo match the way you are showing here, They will ippon you in many ways... You are open to ashi barai's, haraigoshi, and uchimata... Very bad demonstration with lack of Judo skill.
I love how keyboard warriors talk crap about "lack of judo skill". Unless you have competed in the Olympics or have been a national champion you have no real argument about techniques shown by someone who has demonstrated them in real competetion against the best in the world.
After winning on points against Senegal judoka, lost the next in 10 secs by Ippon without any resistance (yotube McCormick vs Gujejiani). Went to repechage to win by points/exaustion of his 400lbs Guam opponent and then lost by Ippon to the Iranian on the next one.
Honestly I don't think senegal and Guam guys would by exacly classified as best of the world. They were almost invited there by politics, and when he got contenders it was pretty much one sided.
Respond to this video... This guy is a Judo Olympian who trains with Jimmy Pedro. I´d like to know what the credentials are of the people who are bitching about this vid.
@SilvaxxCA I half agree with you. It's not that the guy is bad at Judo, he just needs to work on finer details and fluidity. He's still obviously skilled and far better than I, but not at a level to be giving demonstrations.
This is one pointless technique. Just learn how to do Ouchi Gari correctly. plus putting your oppent's balance over his left leg while preforming a right side Ouchi Gari is completely wrong.
its completely realistic man, this becomes second nature for people and people DO where sweatshirts and jackets in fights. I have seen Judo guys get in street fights..believe me it works. Why do you think Cops and Bouncers always implement Judo, JIu jitsu and wrestling into their programs
ignore the other a holes in here saying dumb racist things. but the truth is this stuff does work in street fights, I have seen it. and don't forget these guys can punch in the face too, as soon as a good grappler gets anywhere near you the fight is basically over.
well ur wife beaters still have something to hold onto, plus, if not those, they can just grab ur arms, legs, neck, any appendage and take u down. Perfect counter-throw when u come in for the punch too. And this is just a tutorial, they're not gonna go this slow and loose in a real street fight. Probably pop u in the face to get u to flinch, then come in with a takedown. Either way, u fight at their distance, u get fucked
ok if you say so but i still dont see it happeing... i work with a guy who fights in mma and he got his ass whooped the other day for talking about how he could beat anybody up at work ....but if you say so
Then he wouldn't be training for the majority of Judo or bjj takedowns would he? I am not saying that this video is any good at all, but you questioning about having a shirt to grab or not directly challenges both judo and bjj, which are great at no-gi and can make a simple transition to getting an underhook or snapping the neck. If you are claiming by your comment that one should only train no-gi, than you would be missing out on tons of opportunities when someone actually does have a shirt.
It's not that you try, it's what an opponent would do with the technique. The difference is, you get the points for the takedown and if you can get them to hit a little higher, you might stun them and get the pass (more points). Also, if your opponent knows you are skilled in takedowns, they usually flop to guard.
Why the emphasis on points? They are wearing gis, so I'd guess it's for sport. Karo has a good version for no-gi, IMO.
I completely agree with Judomagyar...as a blue belt i would never want to get the 2pts for takedown and then end up stuck in the guys guard...i personally think the best throw for BJJ use is Tai Otoshi...my brother-in-law (a judo black belt) has hit Tai Otoshi in a BJJ tourny and finished it with an armbar in 25secs...if hit correctly the arm is automatically there...just my observation...
The leg crossing is the standard, universal and correct position to move your body into for almost every throw. Every Judoka learns that in the first class.
I learned the same technique in traditional Ju-Jutsu, except we were taught to stick your thumb in the eye and to cartwheel over and drop a knee on their head. I guess my art wasn't meant for sport purposes.
No; they were used in battle in brutal times, by the samurai. But since we don't want to kill or maim each other in the dojo, it is necessary to modify the arts to be able to practice them without injuries. Judo is that, practicing safely for perfection of skills and competition. I think it is important to understand the difference in application.
If you are a good grappler, you can do great things there too. In the end it does not matter who is on top or bottom, but who is more skilled and experinced and quick thinking who can take advantage of the openings better.
Of course these things matter. All the top level competitors are neck-and-neck when it comes to skill. It comes down to who will make a mistake first. And being on the bottom could make the difference.
That is exactly what I am trying to say that I think in the end what matters most is who makes the first mistake, and if the other guy can take advantage of that, regardless of being in top or bottom position. A good fighter can capitalize on the other guy's mistake even from an unfavorable position and turn things around. But I can see that if all else is being equal, position could make a difference though.
It"s great to see good judocas sharing with bjj people, in my country they still are alittle close mind. Great Ouchi Gari, Ashi Harai is a good technique for BJJ too.
I LOVE HOPPING O UCHI GARI ^_^

You guys have to look at this as a setup throw... If you have a strong Ouchi your opponent might react to it and open up for another throw..
Kind of like all Uchimata players have great setup throws but you only see the one time he gets Ippon, the video never shows the setup.
