I first listened her in television. it was in the nineties she was Gilda in a Rigoletto directed by Muti at Scala. Wonderful!

Rost's is a voice for the stage... never really translates in recording to me. But live she'll nail you to your chair. Many people here make negative comments but have never even heard her live. Come on folks.

She never was a great soprano. She had a good voice and ordinary technique. You should listen to Roberta Peters and a few others. I really think that you don't know what y'oure talking about!

This voice is no fluid and a bit metallic,

she sounds so live as well as I attended her performance at La Scala's last Rigoletto.

Not the worst Caro Nome but far to be the best, which belongs, what a surprise, to Maria.

How odd that you should think that. I totally didn't like Maria as Gilda at all, and ESPECIALLY in this aria. Her voice just wasn't beautiful enough to carry this GORGEOUS aria...and I have REAL problems with her "trill" (and yes everyone, I DID put quote marks around "trill"). Also, I think it's ridiculous for everyone to just assume Maria's the best. I personally like her in some things, but Gilda, Violetta and Norma are NOT my favorite when done by her.
